Do Superheavy Mechs receive the +1 Light Wood/Light Smoke and +2 Heavy Woods/Heavy Smoke terrain modifier from standing in a hex with either Light/Heavy Woods or Smoke?
Smoke is treated as woods and rises 2 levels above the underlying terrain. (TO:AR p.45)
Units occupying Woods receive a terrain modifier. Light Woods gives a +1 Terrain modifier, and Heavy a +2. (‘GATOR Terrain modifiers’ TW, P.107) Woods cannot provide partial cover to mechs. (TW p.102)
Superheavy units do not receive any cover modifiers for Terrain that stands 2 levels or more below their current height. (FM:3145 p.252)
Because woods are Level 2 and Standing superheavy mechs are 3 levels tall they stand above the woods and there is no LOS impact from standing in Woods or Smoke. LoS is not impacted by the hexes that a unit is standing in. LoS would also not have a normal interaction as one doesn’t count the hex that the attacker or target are in for determining intervening terrain and LoS.
Because the Superheavy is standing “above” the trees / smoke, and woods cannot give a partial cover modifier do Superheavy mechs receive the Occupied Woods modifier?
