QUESTION: LAM discussion temporary ban.
« on: 18 January 2016, 04:48:55 »
It has been a little over three months since the temporary ban on discussing LAMs was enforced.

Are there any plans to lift the ban soon?

I hope so. Unlike off-topic subject bans I would thing topics relating to BattleTech would be discussable, with problem users subject to targeted rules enforcement.

No. Sadly, we have detected the same problems we faced here arising in other forums. The cool down period will last more time.

I guess rule 7 doesn't apply in this instance then?

I think what they're saying is that people have repeatedly violated rule 7 (among others) on this topic, so they're going to let the issue cool some more before allowing it back here.

The main problem I've seen with LAM threads is that otherwise rational posters seem to get sucked into the vortex and it's warnings left, right and center.  I imagine from a moderator point of view, it just looks like more work than it's worth.  The mods really aren't out to ban people, but that's what lies at the end of the LAM road if they don't let it cool a bit more.  I like the community here, and every time they have to ban someone, we all lose a little bit of that.

EDIT: Missing word.

Someone care to give a brief synopsis on what all the rage concerning Transformers was about that led to the subject becoming verboten?
Half the fun of BattleTech is the mental gymnastics required to scientifically rationalize design choices made decades ago entirely based on the Rule of Cool.

The other half is a first-turn AC/2 shot TAC to your gyro that causes your Atlas to fall and smash its own cockpit... wait, I said fun didn't I?

Just your basic "LAMs are (you name it)... No, they're not!" back and forth for post after post, thread lock after thread lock in an ever widening spiral.  Truly, nothing to see there.  Hence the ban (which I support).

Note the subject title, note the response that it's still in effect.
Don't request somebody to break the ban.

Original poster asked and was answered, and has since requested the subject be closed. Thanks.
