Savannah Master. Gabriel is more fragile.

Considering a hit to either craft will likely be fatal, I'd probably take the Gabriel for the turret. That said, both are fast enough that the turret isn't really necessary and the SM has a slightly higher chance of taking one hit and surviving - I suppose it depends how much you like/dislike the crew in question.

Savannah Master .

The armor pattern for the SV :

Front :   10
Left   :    6
Right :    6
Rear  :    2

The armor or the Gabriel :

Front    : 5
Left      : 3
Right    : 3
Rear     : 3
Turrent : 4

Both have 1 point of internal structure in each location .

That means that a single hit from a medium laser ,single LRM cluster,
AC/5 ,  or anything else that can cause 5 damage will outright destroy
a Gabriel if it hits anywhere other then the front armor and it can only
take 5 damage .

I've had Savannah Masters survive a PPC hit from the front and still
contribute to the rest of the game while avoiding destruction .

IMHO with the current rules in TW the Savannah Master is the only
hovercraft that I find to be worth it's BV .  It can cruise to avoid
the PSR for turning while flanking ,turn  3 times in a round ,
and still get a +4 to hit mod .

I forgot to mention that with the old Gabriel witch i think was faster as it was designed by using fractional accounting it might be better than SM nowdays as it can get 4+ TMM without flanking and still make 5 turns.

When I re-create the Gabriel in SAW I can't give it that much armor

Savannah Master. With that speed, you don't need a turret.  The Gabriel is  more vulnerable and expensive to boot.

From a game perspective, the Savannah Master. The survivability is worth the additional BV.

In real life, the Gabriel. I would rather have the ability to attack from oblique angles, as opposed to straight on.

If you plug even a XXL engine in it, the savannah master is still dirt cheap.

60 XXL .  Now it goes 20/30 but costs 522500 C-Bills.  BV at 292 compared to the old 215 and 91667 C-Bills.

17/26 with a XL.  263 BV. 148500 C-Bills.

I would buy so many of these, and watch as they all self-destruct from PSRs.  I'm gonna go do that in MegaMek now.

1 and a half tons of Ferro in SAW gives me 17 points to play with
Working from memory and got that wrong, 1 ton Ferro in SAW gives me 17 points to play with, same in MML as does the calculator for 1.12 * 1.12

No vehicle software handly..how much tonnage do you get with an XL or XXL and the original move rate for pure weapons use?

The normal engine weighs one ton, so no more then half a ton without turning on fractional accounting (and even then I'm nor sure how much you would get)
