I was think about offboard artillery so I was assumed +7 rather than +4.
Risk/reward, after all.
Honestly, I've come to the realization that people are going to b-tch, regardless of how equitable you try to make a game. I brought a couple of units with VSPs yesterday, got right on top of people and took advantage of the -3 TH. And, those units are cheap so I could afford gunnery 3 pilots which meant that I didn't miss often. Good Lord... The griping that went on... I almost packed up and went home. They run hot, their range is garbage and damage is range-dependent....
There's that.
Ran 12 Introtech Mechs and 12 Introtech tanks against 11 Clanner Mechs and an Elemental Point last Friday, and we got about 4-5 Turns in the 4 hours we played (not bad considering 13 players and ALL the units involved). The objective of the Clanners was to clear out an Artillery Park who was focusing on targets elsewhere.
One of the complaints was that I should have pre-damage the Introtech units so they'd be easier to kill... The hardest and heaviest unit to kill on the board was a Thunderbolt, which they didn't even touch, and 2 Pattons (one of which took 3 Turns for an Adder Prime to kill). Most of the TMMs of the Introtech units were pretty low, too. Meanwhile he was running a Vapor Eagle who took the hardest hit that night when a Crusader and the Thunderbolt managed to get most of their LRMs on him (39 Missiles hit), and almost everyone else was either unscathed or received Glancing hits. And that's with me forgetting to shoot units who had Range!
