Title: Goodbye, Capella. Goodbye, BattleTech.
Post by: Youngblood on 01 April 2013, 06:44:06
It's been an interesting ride, but I've poured several hundred dollars into this franchise and I believe I haven't gotten my money's worth.  Pushing around little metal men and pretending they were board game robots has worn too thin for me.  I don't even know what kind of scenarios I want to play anymore!  There's too much to try and I never found what I liked.  BV is dumb, it doesn't help me decide what forces I should bring that make sense and are good and will help me win.  Oh also, why couldn't there have been regularly scheduled tournaments at specific BattleTech-themed venues where you must bring fully-painted miniatures that look professional to play?  I hate coming to a game and having to proxy unpainted chassis and proxy partially-assembled variants, it feels like I'm playing with bottle caps and reminds me of destitute plebeians with chess sets at the park.  Especially when I'm the one bringing all the unpainted minis because I always have amazing and great aspirations for having entire painted regiments of 'Mechs like 3rdCrucisLancers used to have but I never get around to it because I am too busy playing video games since no one will play BattleTech with me.

Not even faction affiliations made me enjoy the universe.  I mean, I tried to grin and bear it when I had the Capellan Confederation pushed on me, but it's really only left a bad taste in my mouth from all the horrible and disgusting discussions about interstellar events.  I've read and posted in so many flame wars and little thread-farts where people from elsewhere would drop by and leave a snarky one-liner that wasn't funny at all just to troll the thread.  I once thought it was my duty as a Capellan Citizen or some other make-believe job to do all this, but I can't handle the responsibility and the pressure anymore!  I have Asian parents that I only just managed to escape last year, and their words and attitudes and mindset continue to echo in my head, and drive me insane, and playing the Confederation just reminds me of that and I can't take it.  Why couldn't we all just get along like back in the original Star League?

I guess I'd have been more okay with it if they made CCAF 'Mechs more balanced, like have them able to produce weapons on par with other factions.  I'm talking about giving them more Standard Fusion Engine 'Mechs with Clan ERPPCs and Improved Heavy Gauss Rifles and Clan Double Heat Sinks, of course.  I wanted to be able to roll with whatever Capellan unit I want and my opponents needed to understand that they've already lost before the initiative dice hit the table.  Oh, and let's not forget WarShips, we needed twenty more of those, good ones like the Texas-class right now, at the beginning of the Dark Age.

Also, these forums are terrible.  I can't scroll down one stupid page without seeing a dumb forum user make an inane post about how BattleTech isn't the way HE (or she) wants it or how some loose end error from the FASA era hasn't been fixed yet and will never be or something like that.  Oh also, I hated it when the anti-Catalyst Game Labs rebel grognards clashed against the pro-Catalyst Game Labs apologists and there were posts deleted and I didn't get to read all of the hate and pent-up loneliness that I could associate with in their words.

Oh well, I guess this game's dying anyways since I can't find anybody to play a game with again and nobody answered my rules questions about Superheavy 'Mechs on the Rules Questions forum.  Just wanted to post a thread here because I'm in need of attention and you should all grovel at my feet.

It wasn't convincing enough, although I quite liked that part about compulsory fully-painted minis.

Do svidaniya, comrade.

Thank your for quoting my original post on this page of the thread.  I am absolutely furious and am bumping this thread in my demand to see this hobby fall like the house of cards it was built upon.  Hope there are developers who see this.

I'd believe it if Hanse had completed the mission taken all of the CapCon and let Mad Max have *nothing*.  That and letting Romano experience the noose from the inside before she had her brood.  No Sun-Tzu, no Kali.  A much nicer universe.

Sadly Hanse didn't do it, and I can read a calendar.

Hanse is Sun-Tzu's real father.  He is based on Kirk, after all.

@catalystgamelab #BattleTech sucks, I quit.  Also it's not #anime even though it is.  Also #MWO is bad, @MWLL was shut down by conspiracy.

I feel your pain.  A lot of players are frustrated that there's all these dice to roll and that bubbles to fill in, and wish they could just pull their miniatures out of their cases and know immediately who has won.

Rest assured I will endeavor to work hard to make Battletech a game where you can ensure yourself victory in any scenario simply by spending the most money. Anything else wouldn't be fair to the players that have spent so much.

Nope!  Latest edition only!  Bulking up on old minis isn't fair to the kids who just got in last week on daddy's VISA card.

There's always Clan Wolverine.  Why don't you try that to spice things up?  I heard they like super heavies, and that they figured out how to deploy them from orbit with heavy mass drivers :)

Speaking of BattleDroids, I've come back into this thread to throw on two more scathing topics for CGL to chew on.

I once had an imaginary childhood where I actually grew up in the 1980s and the robots and their art designs I played with were the best ever.  Nothing could match them in their originality and stompy-ness and any attempt at attaching their names to other designs or artwork could ever replace them.  CGL is only adding fuel to the fire of dissatisfaction amongst all former BT fans by doing something about the horrible situation of clashing artwork between eras because the new artwork for things like Primitive 'Mechs are new.

As the game spirals down into the moral cesspool of the 2010s, I've noticed really bad new factions spring up that I could tell were clearly their writers trying to be "hip" with the times.  Things like the jock-furry-wannabe Clans and the manipulative and religiously extremist Word of Blake have only served to rob the game of its real setting and feel, where honoureabbly duellling each other with walking garbage trucks was the one and only true way for men to truly meet.

Let's burn up the forums with more hate, people, we have a game to take down!

I'm done with this game until CGL releases personnel bios for every soldier in the FWL. And if CGL really cared about BattleTech they'd increase the size of armies by a factor of 500 and increase weapon range. That's the way it is IRL, so that's the way it should be in this game, amirite?

If you need attention you need to l2p n00b.

For those who would covet my miniatures and books that I will no longer need, let it be known that I will be melting them all down into a large paper-maché-slag sculpture that I will be literally throwing down on the table of the largest BattleTech game event at GenCon and ruining the robot positioning and general mood of everyone who is attending.  And in those moments that I am maced, beaten, and dragged away from the convention by security, I will be kicking, screaming, and reaffirming the fact that I am greater than the franchise and anything it ever was or will be.

All About the Azalea Flower

The Azalea is a beautiful flower that is popular. This is a flower that people all over the world love and that people know what it is when you say the name Azalea. The Azalea flower is a symbol of femininity and of softness; it is something that you would give a loved one and it is a flower that is found in a lot of beautiful bouquets today. The floral meaning of this flower tells loved ones to take care of themselves for their partner and it is basically a symbol of womanhood so they are asking woman to stay beautiful.

Description of the Azalea Flower

The funny thing about the Azaleas is that they are actually a flowering shrub, so while they aren’t a flower, you are still going to get beautiful flowers off of them. These flowers are part of the Rhododendron family, which means that they are the type of flower that has a lot of volume. But, what makes them different is that they are actually a one flower one stem flower. There are all kinds of great colors that you can get Azaleas in, some of them are white, yellow, pink, purple, and much more. They are beautiful flowers that many different people enjoy for a variety of different reasons.

Uses for the Azalea Flower

For the most part, there are two main uses for the Azalea flowers; first they are used for people to grow beautiful flower gardens. They will fill front yards, make flower beds look beautiful, and just create an overall look that people absolutely love. Other people use them for floral arrangements. These arrangements include more than just that bouquet that you buy for your wife, it also includes flowers for wedding arrangements and much more. With any flower that you are going to cut, you want to make sure that you trim your Azaleas from the shrubbery in the early hours before the sun has hit them, this will ensure that they are fresher. When you do this, it means that they will last a lot longer than you imagined.

Why do people plant the Azalea Flower?

People love Azaleas for many reasons. First, they grow very quickly and easily, and when they are blooming, they are massively blooming. If you are trying to grow these, there are many different types that you can grow that will all look different. With Azaleas, they need to be grown in a soil that is very well drained, or at least in a pot that is in a cooler soil so that they are able to grow the best that they can. Make sure that you are taking good care of the Azalea because they can actually be fairly susceptible to disease, especially in the spring, so be sure that you are taking good care of them so that they are going to grow and look beautiful. You don’t want to grow a crop that is just going to die.

Don't worry about him (or was it a her?), I'm a new player and over the past couple of months I've picked up the introductory box set, Total Warfare, Cities and Roads Hexmap pack, a dozen mechs, most of them assaults, and today I ordered the Tech Manual. I have painted 5 minis from the box set ( I really need to get better at that), and am finishing the third novel from the Grey Death Legion series. I have only gotten to play once at a convention so far (an old highschool friend was running the game and got me into it), but I might find some players in town soon.

So you see, Battletech is not dying, people are still getting into it.

I was thinking of mixing in the rpg A Time of War and running a combined roleplay/ miniatures campaign if I can find the people.

Can anyone recommend some good painting guides, or ways to improve my painting? Also can you recommend any websites to find local players?

I would show you some pics of my newly painted minis, but they are a little embarrassing since now I figured I rushed them. Also I do not know how to post images in the forums here (if anyone could tell me?).

That Capellan guy (Youngblood) really had me going though.

A joke thread is a failure if Poe's Law isn't fulfilled.

Joke threads are overrated.  Most of the humor in them is far too heavy-handed to be amusing in an intelligent way.  Why not make a thread that's only funny to a select set of people in discrimination? Oops, right, because that's politically incorrect and offensive.

Not a bad name, it actually works, with just one exception:

It needs 'Wolf' somewhere in the name.  There isn't enough factions with a Wolf/canine theme  :-\

BLECH. I don't like Wolf.

 ???

How could you not?  Adding Wolf instantly makes things better.

Take, for example, your name:  ColBosch?  More like ColWOLF.  Now we're talking!  8)

Still not convinced?  Mercenary units pushed around in the Third Succession War?  Add in Wolf's Dragoons and BAM!  'Mercs' are now kicking around the Snakes and making the Mariks flee in terror.

Heir to a joke of a nation that's certain to be gobbled back up by the Dracs sooner rather than later?  Slap 'Clan Wolf' on your uniform and suddenly even the Ghost Bears want you to create Bloodnames for you!

Add some Wolf to Arc-Royal and what do you get?  A fortress.  That's what.  Not enough? Now not only are you feared by your very own Archon, but  everyone that's somebody in the Inner Sphere wants to meet eachother on your planet to discuss how to take out Blakists.

Crusader Clans lacking? Add a (Crusader) Clan Wolf to the mix, and the Star League is coming to you in the Kerensky Cluster instead of the other way around.

Speaking of the Kerensky Cluster, what happens when Clan Wolf left it?  We don't know.  They're still hiding.

Why are the Jade Falcons so angry?  They don't have enough Wolf.

Clearly, you just need more Wolf in your life.  ^-^

Also, riddle me this.  What do you call a person who partakes in the same make-believe for twenty years, and for all those twenty years, feels that his or her own make-believe is corrupted against himself or herself?  What sorts of factors can keep such a person at this for two decades?  I mean, I can't even imagine where I'll be or what kind of things I will like six months from now.

I joined the Capellan Foreign Legion.  What can I say?  I see a Great House get almost cut in half, and my heart (or, rather, the dyspeptic, ulcerated liver that serves the purpose) goes out to them.

So, someone cut me a deal.  Every man's got his price.  And having served the Greater Humanity during the 4th, I might have an idea of what needs to happen to help shore up the LC.

The underdog will always have fans.  Someone has to do it.  It's a fundamental part of one's sense of humanity.   O:-)

Fight the Davion's aggressive spread of corrupting freedom.

Fight the Clan's superiority however you can.  Money means nothing to them, but the Steiners won't stop throwing it at them anyway.  Someone needs to step up and show them the way.

LiaoFan sees the way and doesn't fight it.  LiaoFan has ascended.

If that was all I wanted, I'd have had it years ago.

Someone needs to step up and show them the way.

That's it. I'm shooting him just to be on the safe side.

You're still a Davion stalwart, aren't you, Bosch?

Of course you are.  Your solution to being confused is to pull your guns.

No matter, Bosch.  I'm still Capellan, so, for you, at least, nothing has changed.   8)

Simple.  He lost a bet.  Not sure with who, but as a result he's wearing the Steiner fist to cover his bet...

Really?  When has that ever happened?  Why would I wager with something as precious as my credibility?  I am not what they call a gambling man, sir; I study options and make moves.  I am more chess than poker by a long stretch.

Is it so hard to believe that someone who'd seen the horrors of the 4th Succession War, and what it did to My Beloved Confederation, would see the need for stalwarts to train House Steiner to staunch the flow of blood from their recent losses?  Is it so unthinkable that I was attached to a Lyran unit who has a history of covert action and the destruction of forces under heavy, sustained bombardment, one which has seen action against units that were far better trained, and far better equipped?

Then again, that may be exactly what I want you to think.  It may be that I've attached myself to a Lyran unit to act against Lyran interests.  After all, Hesperus has had one hell of a time, and if I were to get a hold of state secrets, what do you suppose the rewards would be?  When would Lyran state secrets be easier to glean that now, after the House was effectively split in twain?

Indeed, MadCap.  I could be entirely self-motivated.

Of course, this entire thing could also be a maskirovka.  I might not actually be attached to a Lyran unit at all.

The question then becomes, if I'm intentionally trying to distract you, what am I trying to draw your attention from?

The Commonwealth, in its time of trouble, may have appeared in a more appealing fashion to him, perhaps akin to a blonde lady in a negligee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9YL0yHohts).

I don't love you, Youngblood, but, if I did, it would be because you linked me to a Monty Python sketch.

See?  Now, that's far closer to what I'm used to.

Only problem is, once you go Lyran, you *don't* want to go back...  :)  Someone que up the banner with the our officer's club is better than yours...

But, you've assumed that I've gone Lyran, haven't you?  How certain of this could you possibly be?  I've happily told you that I'm currently attached to one of their units, and have suggested that I might have had a say in what unit I was embedded with.  I've agreed with the idea that there has to be some sort of pay-off for such an egregious amount of effort, but, while agreeing that MadCap had an interesting point (to wit, I may be entirely motivated by selfish reasons), I didn't state that he was right.

The only thing I was willing to dismiss openly was the idea that I wanted a new name, and new citizenship.  Even then, I didn't say it wasn't what I was after, merely that I could have taken interested parties up on the offer years ago.  What would make me take up the mantle so completely that I abandon My Beloved Confederation?  If that is what you're witnessing, why now?

MUCH worse.

I think that I speak for all on this issue : the Fiat Pump should be banned by the Ares Convention, Safety and Practices, Good Taste, Good Homemakers, the Old Gods, the World Series of Poker, and anyone who wants a good night's sleep.

Should?

Sure, I'll give you that.  But, like my professor once said, "The law is what it is, which is almost never what it should be."

And hey, look at where we are, now!

Anyway, the Fiat Pumper is ...resting peacefully.  Well, as peacefully as anything of that nature can possibly rest.  And only I and (probably) MadCap know exactly where it is.  So, no worries on that score, man.  We're all good.

Not to mention, the calibration you have to do, just to insure your own safety would be...

...off-putting, to some.  Also, I've found that no matter how hard you try to clean it, the fiat-pumper remains sticky to the touch.  It's an odd thing, but not so odd as to render it useless under desperate circumstances.

Well, that's a shame.  How does one go about constructing his or her own Fiat Pumper?  My curiosity and willingness to experience things first-hand (first-foot? first-other-appendage?) is suffocating me and so it must not be denied!

Well, that's a shame.  How does one go about constructing his or her own Fiat Pumper?

Well, the last person I told tried to wring my neck half-way through, and, what's more, after being restrained, shot himself after I finished the explanation.  He was shouting about how he was dirty, or something...

...No, wait.  It was unclean.  He was screaming the word "Unclean," over and over.  *shrug*

Right, like I would allow you a secret weapon so you can takeover the Sphere, sounds like LiaoFan is really a Blake ROM.

Oh and for the win, House Kurita all the way.

Title: Re: Goodbye, Capella. Goodbye, BattleTech.
Post by: LiaoFan on 13 April 2013, 11:04:33
The Fiat Pumper isn't a weapon, per se.  It's just a way to make sure things even out, in the end.  As for taking over the Inner Sphere, my good man, why in the world would I want the headache?  No, I'm happy just sitting here and watching.  Then again, that may just be what I -want- you to think, right?

One thing, though.  Don't call me a Blakist.  I'm a Capellan.

We nuke Blakists.

Even if they're on our worlds.

And Bosch, the "her" that you mentioned was only -part- of the works.  It was, actually, rather ghastly business, when I think about it.

You'd think it'd scream, constantly, but it just sort of...chuckled. Not giggled, that'd be cliche, but chuckled all the time. Like it was mildly amused.

Theoretically, if I somehow complete it, can I give it a gender again if I dress it up? okay, this train of thought is starting to get a little stale, I'll stop beating a dead meat horse now.

Let's see, after they put me in twilight sleep, I do recall they have one of those things that's also used for Thanksgiving turkey stuffing....
