.... April fool's...?
Of course, but it could have been better.
Of course, but it could have been better.
Typical martian post. I already have you on my Block list for being too smart at me.It wasn't convincing enough, although I quite liked that part about compulsory fully-painted minis.
It's been an interesting ride, but I've poured several hundred dollars into this franchise and I believe I haven't gotten my money's worth. Pushing around little metal men and pretending they were board game robots has worn too thin for me. I don't even know what kind of scenarios I want to play anymore! There's too much to try and I never found what I liked. BV is dumb, it doesn't help me decide what forces I should bring that make sense and are good and will help me win. Oh also, why couldn't there have been regularly scheduled tournaments at specific BattleTech-themed venues where you must bring fully-painted miniatures that look professional to play? I hate coming to a game and having to proxy unpainted chassis and proxy partially-assembled variants, it feels like I'm playing with bottle caps and reminds me of destitute plebeians with chess sets at the park. Especially when I'm the one bringing all the unpainted minis because I always have amazing and great aspirations for having entire painted regiments of 'Mechs like 3rdCrucisLancers used to have but I never get around to it because I am too busy playing video games since no one will play BattleTech with me.
Not even faction affiliations made me enjoy the universe. I mean, I tried to grin and bear it when I had the Capellan Confederation pushed on me, but it's really only left a bad taste in my mouth from all the horrible and disgusting discussions about interstellar events. I've read and posted in so many flame wars and little thread-farts where people from elsewhere would drop by and leave a snarky one-liner that wasn't funny at all just to troll the thread. I once thought it was my duty as a Capellan Citizen or some other make-believe job to do all this, but I can't handle the responsibility and the pressure anymore! I have Asian parents that I only just managed to escape last year, and their words and attitudes and mindset continue to echo in my head, and drive me insane, and playing the Confederation just reminds me of that and I can't take it. Why couldn't we all just get along like back in the original Star League?
I guess I'd have been more okay with it if they made CCAF 'Mechs more balanced, like have them able to produce weapons on par with other factions. I'm talking about giving them more Standard Fusion Engine 'Mechs with Clan ERPPCs and Improved Heavy Gauss Rifles and Clan Double Heat Sinks, of course. I wanted to be able to roll with whatever Capellan unit I want and my opponents needed to understand that they've already lost before the initiative dice hit the table. Oh, and let's not forget WarShips, we needed twenty more of those, good ones like the Texas-class right now, at the beginning of the Dark Age.
Also, these forums are terrible. I can't scroll down one stupid page without seeing a dumb forum user make an inane post about how BattleTech isn't the way HE (or she) wants it or how some loose end error from the FASA era hasn't been fixed yet and will never be or something like that. Oh also, I hated it when the anti-Catalyst Game Labs rebel grognards clashed against the pro-Catalyst Game Labs apologists and there were posts deleted and I didn't get to read all of the hate and pent-up loneliness that I could associate with in their words.
Oh well, I guess this game's dying anyways since I can't find anybody to play a game with again and nobody answered my rules questions about Superheavy 'Mechs on the Rules Questions forum. Just wanted to post a thread here because I'm in need of attention and you should all grovel at my feet.

Crittertek is awaiting you!
I'd believe it if Hanse had completed the mission taken all of the CapCon and let Mad Max have *nothing*. That and letting Romano experience the noose from the inside before she had her brood. No Sun-Tzu, no Kali. A much nicer universe.
Sadly Hanse didn't do it, and I can read a calendar.
So long and thanks for all the fish!
*whew* That's a lot of, like, words from a Capellan fan so has anyone posted a twitter-length version yet?
What? He gave you fish?
Away with you, then.
I feel your pain. A lot of players are frustrated that there's all these dice to roll and that bubbles to fill in, and wish they could just pull their miniatures out of their cases and know immediately who has won.Thank God. Now all my Battledroids will be worthwhile.
Rest assured I will endeavor to work hard to make Battletech a game where you can ensure yourself victory in any scenario simply by spending the most money. Anything else wouldn't be fair to the players that have spent so much.
Thank God. Now all my Battledroids will be worthwhile.
Nope! Latest edition only! Bulking up on old minis isn't fair to the kids who just got in last week on daddy's VISA card.AHHH! I just can't win!
So long and thanks for all the fish!So sad it had to come to this!
And now the end is near...
Not so. We have 10.5 hours remaining in the day... Brace up, though, it's almost over...

[/end april fools trolling]
Okay, now you've just crossed the line with that tag.
The Capellans are imba and have so much fiat they haven't lost a battle since the 4th succession warYou know, in broad strokes I think this is accurate.
[/end april fools trolling]Actually that should be [/April fools trolling] or [end April fools trolling/], apart from the wrong form of brackets

"You should have picked a better faction." >:D >:D
I think he's just annoyed that Sun Tzu inherited the CC instead of Kali. I think she would have made a great Chancellor.
I'm gonna be real honest... this is the worst April fools joke ever.
It's not funny. It's like burning down your best friends house and then yelling April Fools at him...
But I am glad it is a joke
True that. He should have picked the good, old FWL.
Mo more faction, no more worries ;)
Nonsense. House Liao FTW!!! Zhen Sheng! O0
If April fools, I honestly don't see the punchline.
WHAT THE HECK your spoiler'd sig doesn't say "made you look" anymore!!
Welp, there goes the neighborhood.
Typical martian post. I already have you on my Block list for being too smart at me.
GUYS, WEIRDEST THING happened to me. I went to bed on Sunday night and had this stupidly vivid dream that I vomited out a wall of text on the General Discussion forum and people woke up and started posting on it with just about every single off-topic response ever!
...I don't have to clean up after this, do I?
Lovely parody, my friend! 8 stars out of 10.
Would troll again?
Well played. ;D
No. The mods will just lock it. That, or sweep it to the MW Hall.
Dude, problem was half the posters only half thought you were kidding half of the time. It was very unclear.
Nope! Latest edition only! Bulking up on old minis isn't fair to the kids who just got in last week on daddy's VISA card.
So you'll be making it more like 40k?
They must love that game. It's such a great game. All games aspire to become that game.
Hey, are you offering any rates on a second mortgage?
To be serious, I am okay with having this thread moved to the MechWarrior Hall, unless the moderators or developers or writers or agents have a cunning plan to freshen up these boards with my unfunny posts.
SHINEY HAPPY NERD DREAMS, YOU SAY?
-snip-
And Terra is governed by Blake's faithful, yes? :D
Governed, no. Buried there, yes.
Governed, no. Buried there, yes.Foolish FedRat, did you think we would not anticipate our defeat? We've safely moved everything to Circinus and... Oh crap, Regulans. #P
Don't worry about him (or was it a her?), I'm a new player and over the past couple of months I've picked up the introductory box set, Total Warfare, Cities and Roads Hexmap pack, a dozen mechs, most of them assaults, and today I ordered the Tech Manual. I have painted 5 minis from the box set ( I really need to get better at that), and am finishing the third novel from the Grey Death Legion series. I have only gotten to play once at a convention so far (an old highschool friend was running the game and got me into it), but I might find some players in town soon.
So you see, Battletech is not dying, people are still getting into it.
I was thinking of mixing in the rpg A Time of War and running a combined roleplay/ miniatures campaign if I can find the people.
Can anyone recommend some good painting guides, or ways to improve my painting? Also can you recommend any websites to find local players?
I would show you some pics of my newly painted minis, but they are a little embarrassing since now I figured I rushed them. Also I do not know how to post images in the forums here (if anyone could tell me?).
That Capellan guy (Youngblood) really had me going though.
Here is a link to a pic anyhow: https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/885296_4484715962698_372166621_o.jpg

The Awesome is a Capellan Red Lancer. I also have a Dragon painted in those colors to make up a Red Lancers Lance. The other mechs are part of my made up mercenary unit called Burke's Bastards.
I hope Battletech continues to grow for a loong looong time!!!
Double posting to emphasize that the end is near. The dagger is in the heart with ER:3145 and the last nail is being driven in the coffin with the first Technical-Disaster Readout-Mockery book of 3145 too. It's time for us to move on, to move on to watching English-subtitled episodes of the Japanese voice dub of My Little Pony.
I wish there were some way for Internet forum threads to telegraph "YOU WILL PROBABLY LIKE THIS THREAD IF YOU HAVE BEEN AROUND HERE A WHILE AND GET ALL THE IN-JOKES but otherwise move along, have a nice day" without actually having it displayed and breaking the amusing mood in the process.
By the time you railed on your parentage, it sunk in. I'm still a newb to the board, just not a n00b.
A joke thread is a failure if Poe's Law isn't fulfilled.
BTW Youngblood I think your avatar dislocated her jaw.
I think Cecilia Davion here has a bit more to worry about than a dislocated jaw.
Combined Free Confederated Commonwealth Star League of Suns.
And the colour should be purple ;)
Not a bad name, it actually works, with just one exception:
It needs 'Wolf' somewhere in the name. There isn't enough factions with a Wolf/canine theme :-\

Wolf Wolf Wolf Wolf Wolf Wolf Confederated Wolf has a nice ring to it.
Which one, the first, the third, or the sixth?
Can't you just hold the Wolf?
BLECH. I don't like Wolf.
Impressive list, sir, but I would like to remind you that I'm the ****** ColBosch.
Why is Wolf so badass? Because they want to be like me. Why haven't they reached Earth yet? Because I'm here, and I. Don't. Like. Wolf.
How many minutes did it actually take you to construct that post?
The symbol will be a wolf-headed dragon with steel gauntlets holding a broadsword and a dao, with eagle's wings, against a Cameron Star background.
Good on ya. If it's one thing I've learned on the Internet, it's that reading comprehension and being able to recognize and categorize nonsense as satire is a highly valuable tool for survival.
Also, riddle me this. What do you call a person who partakes in the same make-believe for twenty years, and for all those twenty years, feels that his or her own make-believe is corrupted against himself or herself? What sorts of factors can keep such a person at this for two decades?
Oh Youngblood, I love you. Never change.
Nonsense. House Liao FTW!!! Zhen Sheng! O0

Question: Why is LiaoFan wearing a Steiner Fist as his avatar
Why does a Stormcrow have a Gunslinger as an avatar, HUH?! Don't be so judgemental, GOSH.Not being judgemental, just inquisitve
Not being judgemental, just inquisitve
Why are people posting off-topic questions on my off-topic thread drifts!?!? I swear, forum users have no focus these days. Whatever happened to those times when I was railing on my parentage and--ohhh, I see now, I see where LiaoFan is coming from with that Steiner robot hand.
Question: Why is LiaoFan wearing a Steiner Fist as his avatar
Who I am is LiaoFan.
As for what happened to LiaoFan? That's not important. ^-^
We have always been at war with LiaoFan.
What are you getting in return, LiaoFan? Clearly there has to be something to gain from such -effort-.
Citizenship and a new identity, I'd presume. Why anyone would *want* to become a Capellan citizen is beyond me.
Someone needs to step up and show them the way.
LiaoFan sees the way and doesn't fight it.
We have always been at war with LiaoFan.

Question: Why is LiaoFan wearing a Steiner Fist as his avatar
That's it. I'm shooting him just to be on the safe side.
Simple. He lost a bet. Not sure with who, but as a result he's wearing the Steiner fist to cover his bet...
The Commonwealth, in its time of trouble, may have appeared in a more appealing fashion to him, perhaps akin to a blonde lady in a negligee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9YL0yHohts).
Bombard LiaoFan from orbit...it's the only way to be sure...about whatever he's talking about ::)
Only problem is, once you go Lyran, you *don't* want to go back... :) Someone que up the banner with the our officer's club is better than yours...
Can I touch it?
Well, that's a shame. How does one go about constructing his or her own Fiat Pumper?
Also, I've found that no matter how hard you try to clean it, the fiat-pumper remains sticky to the touch.
Pushes LiaoFan into said device...
Wha? He tripped.
"her"
I see, these are all the details I need.
Fiat Pump is now mai waifu.
Dude, no. Showing the Fiat Pumper compassion only accelerates its effects.
it.
No, let me change that word.
I need you to look at Cloyster again with a more Fruedian perspective.
We dwell in terrifying domains beyond reason. Once you've journeyed there, you can never truly come back.
Well, they are pretty awesome.
Now you two are the only ones left on this thread. Way to kill it, guys.
