Overview
In [retracted] the Society introduced a set of updated missile carrier vehicles that addresses the core weaknesses of the old LRM Carrier that were in wide use, such as the weak armor and lack of short range firepower. This was done to increase the effectiveness and survivability of Society vehicle forces, which have become far less expendable over the decades.
Capabilities
The end products of the development process consisted out of two related missile carriers. The first one is the LAV Carrier, meant for regular Society forces, and armed using Clan LRM launchers with Artemis-V fire control systems. The second one is the iATM Carrier, meant for critical asset defense, and constructed with restricted technology such as iATM-12 launchers. Both versions have some common characteristics such as thick hardened armor, 180-rated XL Engine, launcher hatches to conceal the number of launcher tubes, a rear-facing Micro Pulse Laser, and a pop-up Laser AMS system.
With the design being heavily based upon the LRM Carrier, it is possible to fool enemy forces to misidentify either of the missile carriers as an LRM Carrier. Of the two Tanks the LAV version has an easier time convincing opponents that they merely facing an LRM Carrier, provided that the crew use some standard LRM missiles while also keeping the advanced electronics in passive stand-by mode. The iATM carrier switches the LRM launchers for iATM-12 launchers and upgrades the ECM Suite to a Nova CEWS, allowing for accurate fire support. Also while LAV Carriers use refurbished old carrier chassis for their production, the iATM Carrier uses newly fabricated vehicular-endosteel chassis, freeing up more tonnage for ammunition.
Deployment
In general both of the new carrier designs are deployed according to their original design
guidelines. But there have been exceptions. For the iATM Carrier the slow cruise speed combined with the sensitive nature of the used equipment, such as the iATM-12s and the Nova CEWS, forced this vehicle into a base defense niche. Thus most of the iATM Carriers are deployed with the defending forces of fixed Coreun bases. However there are some exceptions in where this vehicle was used in offensive missions, where it performed well.
