Draft Pundits-Houston is going to take a QB, count on it.
Counter Pundits-Nah, they are going to grab Will Anderson.
Houston-Let's do both!

I was glad to see Dallas get Smith, I'm hoping he stabilizes their run defense and still is some help in the passing game. Now if they can get a OG in the second (or that massive TE Washington).

The Lions had me scratching my head, making some good moves around to get more draft capital...and then using first round picks on second round players.

Everyone in Detroit Social Media is a draft expert now lol.  If we let John Dough from downriver pick the players, the Lions will win 10 Super Bowls in a row!   :D :D :D

Its funny to see Detroit getting hammered by critics in the first round for picking an RB, and then in the succeeding days of the draft, they get congratulated. We wont really know how these picks will pan out until years later, so this is all pointless at this stage.

As for the Bears, the new GM is very different than the one he replaced. All the team drafts are very workman-like, with rookies who have good character but seemingly limited ceilings.

Exactly.

Also, Holmes did what few Lions General Managers EVER do - he ended up with more picks than he entered the draft with.

For %#$@#@ years Lions staff traded away draft pics as though they were trading "nothing" for something - simultaneously trading away our own future while enriching the futures of our NFL rivals.

Holmes has a lot of wasted time and crap efforts to try and make up for and it's not easy.  The hole that the Lions dug for themselves through decades of mismanagement is deeper than Mt. Everest is high.

The point of instant draft analysis isn’t to be right. It’s to help convince people to watch. More eyeballs means more expensive advertising slots and bigger rights fees. People watch. Lots of them.

The sooner you start seeing televised sports analysis as primarily a spectacle and advertising for the league, the faster it makes sense as a medium.

[/quote]       I see no one complaining about the Falcons drafting RB before the Lions. I see the Lions got play maker with first 2 picks but you can't judge the draft until  2 or 3 years down road . I do find it funny when they do redraft 2 or 3 years later :)).

Agreed.  I was just commenting on the armchair GM types on social media.  But even their antics draw more eyes.  The more people talk, the more additional people become curious and want their say in the matter.

So, Brady is now a part owner in the Raiders and their QB may or may not be able to play. Can an owner play for his team?

Technically yes, but it would require approval from a lot of the other owners.  And enough of them that I don't think it'll happen.

It turns out that having a zero-tolerance policy towards gambling in a league flush with money from online gambling advertising is having some predictable effects.

To be clear, I do not- at all- think athletes should be gambling on their games. If any of that gets proven, that players bet on games they were involved in (particularly if they bet their team would lose), that's unacceptable. BUT... it's not a great look for the NFL to be cracking down this hard on it across the board when every single ad break is covered in gambling ads, casino odds are rattled off in every studio broadcast, even at least one arena is named for a casino conglomerate.

There's no putting that toothpaste back in its tube- the league isn't going to suddenly change its mind about that influx of money, obviously. But a situation where a player bets on, say, NBA games or even college football, shouldn't be resulting in the stiff penalties we're seeing (at least, my personal opinion). Not if the league wants to encourage betting on games the way it has been the last few years.

Actually, the NFL allows their players to bet on any sport except the NFL.

It's betting on NFL games that they're about to crack down on.
I have spoken.

They aren't allowed to bet at all while on team facilities, that's what a bunch of these guys are getting tripped up on. It's just like that guy who gets canned for looking a porn on the work computer, on your free time it's okay but at work....

That is actually a pretty sweet logo.  So much better than those blank weird helmets.
