Yeah, this story broke a little while ago. Reaction seems to be pretty muted - there don't seem to have been a lot of dedicated users of the platform, & despite it being created collectively by most of the major anime production companies, it never seemed to get the kind of strong support it needed to really gain traction.
With Sony Pictures's purchase of 95% of Funimation, I suspect Sony is positioning themselves to become the primary Japanese pop culture export conduit. The alliance of Playstation & anime seems like a no-brainer, & I see the makings of a unified content platform beginning to coalese around Playstation & Playstation Vue. Most Japanese companies already have sound business relationships with Sony by necessity, which will make it all the easier to leverage those relationships to score exclusive content. I'm sure the companies that have been paying to operate Daisuki are looking around and deciding they'd rather let Sony pay them to handle the distribution side.
