3025 EW Equipped Light Mechs
« on: 03 February 2011, 15:29:55 »
Hi,

As part of my recon lance I'n trying to find light mechs from 3025 era with EW gear but from my record sheets I can only find the Raven.  Could anyone enlighten me to any more?

Thanks

Rob

They don't exist, unless you happen to pull an old Star League mech from a cache.

But to be fair. All mechs have EW gear, it's just already factored into sensors and weapons ranges. The ones with it as equipment have the super powerful version.

Could you possibly tell me any from star league?  Or could you tell me what record sheets I need to get for them?

I think he may be referring to the bulky EW system on the prototype Raven, it's in TacOps.

That's pretty much the only thing that uses that equipment.

Also note that the Imp was a creation of the early Clans... or rather, Nicky K, so doesn't belong on that list in the strictest definition of 'Star League'. :D

It is indeed along with the Cataphract and (for some reason) the Vindicator, despite the latter's inclusion in TRO3025.  And TRO3025 predates the Liao book by two years.

I'd assume it went in as "usually used" 'Mech not covered in the boxed set.

I recommend the TROs and record sheets, personally.  The main ones you want are Klondike, 3075, and 3050.  3085S has the Prowler, which may or may not be useful.

I spotted the Raven in the 3039 RS's but since I have spotted it I can't find any rules for the 'EW Equipment' which it is fitted with.  The only light mech I can find from my RS's and HMP from 2750-3025 which has BAP/GECM is the Mongoose.  I can see there are more listed on Sarna but I guess these don't have record sheets...or I simply don't have them.

The EW equipment rules are on pages 310-311 of TacOps.

Let me do some digging.

EDIT: Huh.  A lot of their light unit EW capabilities were actually in their vehicles, not their 'Mechs.  Here's what I found.  Also, note that electronic warfare capabilities largely went the way of the dodo in the Succession Wars, so whatever I dig up is likely to be Star League.

Active probe:
MON-66/-66b Mongoose, HSR-200-Db Hussar, OTT-J7b Ostscout, HER-1Sb Hermes

ECM:
SPR-4F Spector, HSR-200-Db Hussar, FFL-3SLE Firefly

TAG:
SL-1G/-1H Sling

Thanks for pointing that out, I have just read the rules in TacOps.  As for the mechs I'll need to read up on them, but at least now I have somewhere to start.  Thanks again for the most appreciated help.

I would also dig through the fluff in many of the TROs.  Could give you some insight into other models or prototypes with EW gear.

EW Equipment weighs 7.5 tons and takes up 4 critical spaces. It functions as an active probe and an ECM suite within a radius of three hexes. [1] The combined mass and bulk of the system make it strictly inferior to mounting both a Beagle and Guardian system instead, but the latter systems are of a higher technology level.

It's the only one I'm aware of that uses that particular equipment.  The TacOps entry was written specifically for it as I recall.

One thing that occurs to me that might need clarification for newcomers. Most of the mechs listed with BAP/ECM are Royal models for Terran Hegemony units, not for generic Star League Defense Forces. Which means getting them from a random Brian Cache is even less likely than the 'monkey models' of same Mechs.

Raven was first rebuild of EW equipment in couple centuries, IIRC. And was obsoleted by the rediscovery of SL era equipment by IS in general. If not Comstar.

As far as existing units in Successor militaries in 3025 which were fluffed as having some sort of exceptional sensor suite, the Ostscout is the main one cited, though the Raven is the only one that actually allocated useless tonnage on such a thing.

You're quite correct, although I can see Brian Caches containing Royals pretty easily.  Random Star League depots in the Inner Sphere, on the other hand... nope!

Generally, a Royal 'Mech will have a little -b extension on the end, while vehicles will be noted as such in their names.

The other thing to remember is that even if you are lucky enough to find the equipment, you probably will have no access to facilities or personnel that even have a basic concept of how the gear works.  Once it breaks, it will most likely stay broken.

A fun aside for the players might be a plot hook surrounding a wild goose chase for 'the old man who knows the secrets of the active probe.'

There might be a Pheonix Hawk from the Medium Mech Record Sheets from the 90s.  I'll have to check in the AM.
