Is there anything else mentioned about the Future Victor 49 exercises on the Taurian border near the planets of Lindsay and Brockway besides the brief blurb about them making the Taurians go to full alert in 20 Year Update?

20 Year Update has one regiment of the Lexington Combat Group on each of those worlds. The only other units listed in the Altair PDZ is the other regiment of the Lexington Combat Group and the Ridgebrook CMM.

The ideas I've come up with are large conventional formations exercising with a mercenary mech regiment, a large aerospace and/or vacuum exercise is possible given the wording of "near" those worlds, or mech units present for the exercise, but not listed.

It could also have included a departure of significant units from neighboring PDZ's/Commands. If it was based on Operation GALAHAD from 3026-27, the movement of troops into and out of a theater would not be unknown.

I think your best hint of units that may have been tapped from outside that area are the ones in the FS who were able to pack up and move to meet the Clans the fastest.  Its always easier to re-direct a unit that has most of their tail ready to move than a order to a unit settled into their garrison lifestyle.  A bigger question might be what units in the AFFC are designated as a quick reaction force?  In the US its the light infantry (airborne & LIDs) and marines, with certain armor & infantry divisions tagged as the first heavy follow on forces.  Typically the units as part of a QRF rotate so they do not get worn out or lose their skills from such a readiness state.

My GUESS for QRF would be . . .
some of the Davion Guards
some Crucis Light Cav
Kathil Uhlans
maybe the ELH

If you want nuke/crazy bait . . . 'Hey look!  Here is a relic of the Star League coming for your planets!  What you gonna do Taurians?'

Davout73 put together a map of all canon 3050 deployments at one point, there's no evidence of of this event happening on that map. Best guess might actually about getting ready to deal with Romano.

Or it could have been a Staff Ex . . . you gather most of the staff from units and regional commands that will be involved and run it something like . . . BF2?

Hanse is smart enough to know something like this will leak and to say that the Taurians wouldn't respond well is understating things.

Staff Ex means the units do not move but you go through a exercise where judges determine how the units respond . . . its a lot less threatening than actually moving units about on the border.  Contingency and planning happens non-stop, so it would not raise as many alarms again as the actual moving of units or carrying out exercises with troops.

Leaving the staffs in place also imposes real world communications delays... Sometimes the lessons from THAT are priceless...  ^-^
