BattleTech Era pages
« on: 25 April 2013, 13:01:47 »
Hello.

Some of the newly-released products relevant to certain era pages have yet to be given links on said pages.

For example, the Dark Age era page has yet to be given links to FM:3085, ISP3, DATP: Liao, TRO:3145 Mercenaries, and ER:3145.

Similarly, the Jihad era page is missing links to The Wars of Reaving and its supplemental file. Plus, it currently has TRO:3085 and its supplemental listed as part of that era, but might those products not count as Republic/Dark Age items instead? (Not least since the cover art for TRO:3085 is already being used on the Dark Age era page.)

Also, the Star League Era page might do with links to FM:2750, ER:2750, and the two volumes of Liberation of Terra.

Also, on the Dark Age era page, should the year-by-year timeline be expanded to cover events as far as 3145; or is there a "grace period" in play between the release of ER:3145 and the point at which such "new" information isn't classed as spoiler material?

Understood.

(I was editing my initial post while you were replying; did you catch the question about which era the TRO:3085 volumes ought to be listed under? As noted above, the cover art is used for the Dark Age page, while the products themsleves are counted as Jihad-era books at present.)

EDIT: I forgot to note that TRO: Prototypes probably ought to be listed as a Republic/Dark Age era file, too.

Well, if you insist...

(Since this is technically an era issue too, I may as well put it here.)

In terms of the site's overall presentation, it might be worth taking a moment to consider how "era-neutral" (or "era-inclusive") it should or shoud not be.

For example, the universe guide PDF stops short of both the Jihad and the Dark Age, while the universe page (and associated links) are still written with the assumption that the Jihad is the "current" thing happening in terms of game development.

(Granted, the Republic of the Sphere faction page might need the data to come in Field Manual: 3145 and/or Historical: Wars of the Republic Era before it can be fleshed out more than it has already. But at least we now know what year David Lear passed away in, courtesy of Stone's bio in ER:3145.)

Is it worth updating the site to more fully integrate what we know about the Dark Age (especially now that works like ER:3145 are bringing it in "from the cold", as it were, in that it's no longer simply the Clix game's remit), or is the current setup worth sticking with? Or should there be some other option used instead?

Good questions. Also came up during the TW errata review. We're definitely working on forming an opinion on that. =)

Good to note.

I imagine that any changes you do make might end up being superseded yet again, once the ilClan/3250 stuff rolls in; but even so, a more comprehensive integration of the Dark Age as a "BattleTech" thing, as it has now finally started to become, would be quite welcome.

Oh, and while this is ever so slightly off-tangent, leaving some room on this page for Alpha Strike when the time comes might be handy, too...

Good to see that the links have been updatd for the various era pages, but there was one other timeline-related note I wanted to make.

The current timeline on the Jihad era page only goes so far as 3076. It might be worth expanding it to 3080, to cover events highlighted in Jihad Hot Spots: Terra and Jihad: Final Reckoning.

(Although, some of those "tail-end" events, such as the glassing of Circinus, might technically count as Republic/Dark Age era events instead.)

Actually, the Dark Age timeline is currently a bit thin regarding the Republic Era, and currently skips a few of the events noted in Field Manual: 3085 and/or set to be featured in Historical: Wars of the Republic Era, such as the Republic's campaigns against the Capellans and the bordering former-League states, the Second Combine-Dominion War, and the Victoria War.

I didn't want to clog up this sub-board with new threads, so...

It's been almost a week since Historical Turning Points: New Dallas was released, yet it still hasn't been given its own page (or link on the Star League era page). Will this file be given its own website entry any time soon? (And removed from the Coming Releases page, for that matter?)

Hooray!

Just one quick note: on this page, the thumbnail link refers instead to DATP:V, rather than HTP:ND.

Piling on here ;)

The last few releases are still without book pages. I need something to link to from the HPG Station (and hopefully generate at least a few sales this way :))

In light of the latest updates:

*The Explorer Corps and Jade Falcon sourcebook pages may be worth adding links to on the Clan Invasion Era page.

*Interstellar Players 3: Interstellar Expeditions and Field Manual: 3085 are still absent from the Dark Age Era page. (While ISP3 is technically marked as a Jihad Era book, it is set in 3095...)

*Is there room on the Jihad Era page for JTP: Hesperus?

The folks running the site will get this taken care of. Let's not put up the same reminders to them every time a new product releases- they'll get this taken care of on their own. Thank you.
