Demolisher-E Heavy Tank
« on: 29 July 2012, 10:22:54 »
With all the Demolishers flying around lately (some quite literally ;)), I thought I'd revisit an old take of my own on the concept, though I couldn't then resist the temptation to spruce it up a bit. The engine and armor stayed the same, the more up-to-date autocannons and AMSs are new additions:

CASE (Body)                                           0.5 t
                                                   --------
                                                     36.5 t
                                                   ========
                                                     80 t

BV: 1,539
Cost (unloaded): 4,987,800 C-bills

If the turret armor seems a bit heavy, that's actually a legacy of the original Demolisher's 40/30/20/40 armor layout. And while I'm not sure the rules were around yet at the time, going that route actually does make a degree of sense if you ever get the chance to go hull-down in suitable terrain as per TacOps...

The movement stayed the same... ICE =/=FCE. ;)

Anyway, why not heavy FF? Save enough weight for a couple of (L)MGs in the hull (anti-infantery and critsoaking ;) ).

The engine stayed the same in relation to my first draft of the concept (which going by the file creation date dates back to March last year and was already FCE-powered just to see where I could go with that), not the original Demolisher. I mean, it's pretty obvious that the armor got beefed up relative to that as well... ;) (For the record, the original idea had standard AC/20s, no AMS, and two more tons of ammo in the bins. I decided in the revision that that last part was a bit optimistic.)

As for not using heavy FF, that was a bit of a fluff decision. While it's technically stronger for the same weight and the tank certainly would have the slot space to spare, "plain old" FF is still more readily available, easier to keep in stock, and in any case obviously still has to go somewhere. So this ended up simply being one of those "somewheres". :)
