Can NL-42s land on a planet?
« on: 11 December 2022, 15:12:36 »
I'm wondering if NL-42 Battle Taxis can land on a planet.

By default I want to say yes, but given their specialized role I'm not sure.

Trying to use them as not just a boarding craft but a small scale space-to-ground troop transport for a small BA contingent. In the early/mid 3050s, when there aren't a lot of good alternatives that I can see.

All Small Craft are capable of landing. Only WarShips, JumpShips, Space Stations, and Satellites cannot land.

As long as they have landing gear (and I'm pretty sure they do), they can land on a planet.

Even without, it's only, like, a +5 to land. It'll probably be a hard landing, but unlikely fatal.

As a great sim trooper once said: "landing just means... stop flying, right?"

Oddly enough I seem to recall the "Space Bus" from DS/JS was only usable in space & could not enter atmosphere.

I thought the NL-42 was the same issue.

there are a couple quirks that can affect how well a ship flys in atmosphere, if at all. Unstreamlined doesnt let them operate in the atmosphere at all. Atmospheric Flight Instability (which the clan NL-45 has, and its easy to see how the NL-42 has it, as its part of the same family) makes it harder to fly in atmosphere, iirc a +2 to all PSRs in atmo.

i dont think alot of the older space stuff got quirks.

Any spaceship can land on planet. Most of them only once however :)
