New CAV: Steel Dragon Rhino
« on: 26 January 2011, 19:31:13 »
This is one humongous mini, easily twice the bulk of the resculpt Atlas.  Based the paint off the cover of one of the CAV reference guides for this merc unit.  Fun.  Heavy, but fun.

When in doubt, take it out.

dude, that's sweet, i really need to get some of these CAV minis just for fun, cause they look really cool, but i don't play the game
"Warriors, not war machines, are the backbone of the Hell's Horses. While others worship the BattleMech as the ultimate weapon, the men and women of this Clan see even this awesome piece of technology as the tool it is. We have held to this philosophy since the days of our first Khan, who knew that the value of the common soldier far outstripped the brute force of the BattleMech. It is one reason our Clan possesses fewer mechs than most, and has led many to underestimate our fierceness and courage. Our survival against all challengers when others have fallen proves the folly of such arrogance, and testifies to the wisdom of our founders."

I have great admiration for those who can paint minuatures so well. I bought a bunch of BT minis when they first came out, but could never figure out how to paint them. I thought it might be fun to have a company's worht of them painted up like Snord's original company.

Many thanks, all!  Cool stats Psyckosama.  The Rhino is the Atlas of the CAV universe; the biggest, baddest CAV around.  Highest point value, absolutely horrifying damage potential, and super-resilience to damage.  In a battle based on points you can easily buy two mid-sized CAV's for the price of a single Rhino...even the other Super-Heavy CAV's like the Ogre and Emperor can't quite stack up to this beast.  It's slow, but if you park it somewhere on a defensive mission, it's really, REALLY hard to get around.
When in doubt, take it out.

Damn Mike, that is a heck of a green! Beautiful! So have you played CAV? How does it stack up to CBT? I have recently purchased a starter set (mainly because it comes with 4 mini  :P) and am actually interested in trying it out.

No, haven't played.  I did read the rules, though, and know how.  It's more abstract than CBT, and is really designed for somewhat larger battles because it plays fairly fast.  You don't worry about ammo for example; it doesn't run out or explode.  As you take damage it goes along a "track" and your combat ability degrades.  So you have no armor diagram or anything like that.  Not bad, but not as detailed as folks who like CBT are going to be used to.
When in doubt, take it out.
