Centurion omni shoulder bits
« on: 21 October 2018, 15:37:26 »
So I've got my Centurion omni built and ready to base except for the little bits on the left shoulder.  I'm not sure yet if I want to include them.  They seem to serve no purpose either for looks or function and the holes should be no trouble to fill.  Curious as to what everyone else is going with.  Bit or no bits?

I did no bits on mine and gained extra laser/missile/other proxy parts.

When I designed the mini I actually requested that we remove the heat sinks but I was told they were integral to the identity of the mech and they had to stay.

With that, I provided 6 despite only needing 5, just in case you drop one. I'm glad people don't hate them as much as they thought they would!

I still haven't put them on my mini...

Are all the heat sinks in the left torso/arm in the record sheet?

Nope.

I like the to consider them as exhaust pipes from the main engine. In the same way a tailpipe isn't in the same spot as the engine on a car.

I found the ones on the Cent Omni to be far superior to those on the Ghost. The Ghost ones, for whatever reason, gave me way more trouble. I've probably done four or five Cent Omni's now, and I've done the shoulder nubs on every one.

I put the nubs on a Blade I built recently as well, and those were slightly easier. The nice thing about the Blade nubs was that, the way they were cast, I could leave them attached to the sprue and use the sprue as a really long guide to hold on to while installing the nubs. They were still light enough that they super glue would hold up the whole piece and I could trim the sprue off once they dried. If I recall correctly, the nubs on the Cent Omni are cast such that you have to cut them off the sprue before you can glue them on. They are upside down compared to the Blade. However, the exposed tops of the nub ended up cleaner on the Cent Omni, so really it's a trade off.

Anyone have any pics of a finished piece, paint and all?

Would those holes where the pieces go make decent 'damage' sites?

I did an awful putty job but the holes are pretty sizable for the location and look too regular to be damage perhaps.

well, I am saying you would of course paint weathering/blackening around each hole, and maybe take some cotton swab to make a smoke trail drifting up from one of the holes.  I do not have the mini so I was curious about how they looked.

Once I enlarged the holes and shortened the stems they installed fine.  It gives it a different look from standard Centurions, so I'm all for them.

As designed, I think if you simply filled the holes with gap filling super glue, it should be easy to sand them over and they should look fine...
