Alpha Strike Demo Board

So, MechCon is coming on Dec 3rd.

And for those who do not know, it is PGI's WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS of Mech Warrior Online. It will also be a big ho-down of all things Battltech, with Randll from Catalyst, and Jordan Weisman from Harebrained Schemes on hand as well.

A lot of us local Demo Agents will also be present runnign quick demos of Table top Battle as both TOTAL WARFARE and ALPHA STRIKE.

I am doing the Alpha Strike, and have just finished this little 2 foot x 2 foot demo board for quick fast dirty lance on lance action:

Looks great, thanks for the work on making Alpha Strike look awesome!  I hate to ask what's in that water..  (if there's any water in that slime at all..)

I was going for a not really water per se, but could be chemicals and other sort of leakeage/bacterial growths.

It was made by carving into the foam, painting a base coat of red, with some metalic creen highlights, covering then with some red basing rocks/ballast from model railwailing, and then filling with Realistic Water from Woodland Scenics.

Just after pouring the water, I would add a few drops of Green and Yellow ink, and just allow it swirl and spread naturally help give the water that sort of 'yucky' vibe.

I just wanted a not normal battle board of Standard sort of landscape but something a little more alien.

Hmm, you could bill it as one of the original maps that MWO had for play.  Its missing the tanks on one side of the board but it sort of catches that feel.

And that was what I was using a a bit of an inspiration for the board.

Me...no...everybody else tho...LOTS. people were constantly snapping photos.

We had a LOT of action at the demo both, so much so, that if we (and by we, PGI) do have a MechCon next year, us Catalyst dudes have already started thinking, we may need more space as we had lines of people playing and Waiting to play.

Some of those rocky upthrusts look shiny . . . are they?  if so how did you get it that way since it looks like foam board.

The entire board has a bit of a metalic shine to it, on purpose mind you.

The Rocky Upcropings were made with a Styro Cutter. I have this one:



I then painted with black base coat, some greys whites red and a metallic green dry brush.

Oh yeah, it looks like chunks of obsidian so it works . . . yeah, I use one that has a 'table' but can be popped out for a hand-held unit.  The 'table' is nice because then I can make easier flat cuts since I cut for hexes.

give me a bit and I will link . . . the 'table' is like 11x8 inches- hence the ''-, but it lets me hold it level on the surface and it has measuremeants inscribed on the surface.
