(Answered) Indirect Fire in AS ??
« on: 04 October 2017, 23:16:42 »
Just a curiosity, why does the 3025 Centurion, with it's single LRM10 get the IF1, but the Masakari Prime, with it's LRM10 does not?

Heat modifiers, I'll bet.

If you are using Indirect, though,  you are not firing the other weapons ..... so how is it different from the Centurion, or even an LRM Flatbed truck, which is also an LRM10?
Same, also, with the Daishi Prime ... has an LRM10, but no indirect fire.

I'm not in front of my books right now, but it's entirely possible that AS still looks at your whole heat curve when calculating specials like that.

Usually IF is covered by the separate rule for heat calculation at long range, where only long range weapons' heat is counted.  But the Masakari builds up so much heat at long range it's long range exclusive heat is still lowering the damage values, thus the OVL.
Overall, it was not something that was generally a problem, so there usually wasn't a need to another conversion rule to make an exception for IF.  Because it wouldn't be a simple no heat calculation for IF, as then a unit could pile on LRMs for indirect fire without caring about heat at all. So it would require yet another entirely separate heat calculation rule...

Long story short, if you got a Masakari Prime for IF, you're doing it wrong anyway :).

I do understand, and the reason I asked is that a number of the Clan mechs are on non-clan MUL lists, where there is a chance it might happen ....
It's not a tactic I would plan for, but an option for "what if".... I do want to say thanks, though, for answering.
