Stopped by Half Price Books today.

Figured I'd sell some books and get some extra spending cash.

Left $88 lighter in the wallet and now I have to figure out what order to read all these classic novels(and the several others I just unpacked).  xp

I think someone must have unloaded their collection  There was so much there that I didn't see last time I was there.  It wasn't just novels(they're all gone now, btw).  They had box sets in the board game section, books in the gaming books section(along with map packs and a collection of unseen blueprint posters), and more box sets behind the counter. I don't get why this guy would sell it all to Half Price Books.  They'd probably have made more on Ebay or the Games Plus auctions

You didn't know that was a thing? They're gorgeous cutaway posters of the Marauder, BattleMaster, Warhammer, Locust, and Wasp. I have one framed right now, and will be getting the rest up soon.

how big are they anyway?   I didn't pick them up because I didn't want to buy yet another picture I don't have room to hang up, but if they're small enough, i may have room.

I believe they are ~2ft wide by 3ft tall but I could find mine and measure them
I wasn't far off, the warhammer one I have is 22" X33.5" as a quick measure

Damn.  I was hoping they were closer to 8x10.  Well, not that small.  Maybe something around the size of the core books would have been nice.

I have seen them go on eBay for $250.

Odd how I passed because it was too much.  It would have been cheaper for me to have just bought them.  At that price, I'd have stopped looking for something else to spend my credit on and never would have seen the novels.

I already have, and I think both are a tie, to be honest.

Far Country feeds my intelligent, sapient, space alien race itch. 

Star Lord reads like a converted RPG session, which is actually a nice change of pace from the epic successor lords thing that can get so boring. It's nice to see an official novel where someone took the brain-time to try to finagle small-level characters with far-reaching backgrounds together into a party to fight a villain-on-the-rise.  People do it in RPGs all the time.  This is a game universe, after all.

It was. Though, I haven't read Ruins of Paperower, and I've heard tales about that, too.

Far Country is underrated. It's a good book, just not a good BattleTech book. It's got a well-crafted storyline, good characters, and competent writing overall. The only problem is that the autor was directed to go into a certain direction that was subsequently abandoned again for BattleTech.

Star Lord, on the other hand... yeah. As was mentioned above, it seems to be a RPG campaign transcript with a somewhat meandering and suspend-your-disbelief story. And Blaine Pardoe mentioned he had to essentially completely rewrite it for publication (he's credited for "additional writing" in the imprint).
Personally, I felt the story was contrived even by BattleTech standards. But the book does have some good parts as well, and a refreshing look on a few things.

Good characters? If you like stereotypes, maybe...

What stuck out in my mind when reading the book was one or more of the characters basically being the stereotype mercenary scum that when the group got lost, basically looked at everyone and started saying something along the lines of "Ok, who gets what woman?" and "I want my money and power."

While I won't agree in saying that the focus on the Game of (Space) Thrones is bad, I will say that the way the blurbs over on Sarna are written and how it always seems that only this small group of back country folk can save the universe, or at least the realm, makes the BT universe seem a LOT suckier then it otherwise appears.

Hm. Rolled or folded? I swear I thought the rolled ones were around $100-150-ish, but I haven't pursued them in awhile.

Rolled. The box was in dreadful shape, but most are. Interestingly, the box still had a FedEx sticker on it; someone had ordered the poster set directly from FASA.
