Again, I am unsure where exactly to ask this question as we do not have a dedicated SubForum for BattleMech Manual, and most BMM question have been asked here in the past, so forgive me.
In BMM page 61 under ICE (SIMPLIFIED) the rules state:
PSRs: Entering an ice hex forces a Piloting Skill Roll. All PSRs
made in a hex with ice (including the PSR made when entering one)
apply a +3 Target Number modifier.
While on page 48 in TacOps for ICE the rules state:
’Mechs and Non-Hover Ground Vehicles: Every time a unit
enters an ice-coated hex without using Careful Movement [Reckless Movement in BMM] (see p.
61), it must make a Piloting/Driving Skill Roll with a +0 modifier. If
a Piloting/Driving Skill Roll is forced on a unit in such a hex (due
to damage, skidding, charges and so on), apply a +4 modifier.
I've struck out the part that has been removed from the Simplified rules.
I ask, is the Simplified rules supposed to harsher than the standard rules? For example in TacOps, entering an Ice Hex is a PSR of +0 (akin to a water hex) to enter, and +4 if forced to make a PSR outside of Movement (damage, Skidding, Pushed, Displaced, etc), but in BMM it's +3 regardless; Enter an Ice Hex +3, Charged in an Ice Hex +3, take 20+ damage in an Ice Hex +3 (ontop of the +1 from 20 damage), etc.
This is different from all other terrain modifiers for other terrain types. Deep Snow, and Swamp are identical to TacOps in regards to their PSR modifiers.
Sorry, for rambling, just trying to get a handle on the Simplified vs Full rules.
