Watched the first episode of Two Car on Cruchyroll last night.  Very nice, dynamic animation of the racing and looks like it could be a fun series to watch.

Also finished my re-watch of Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple.  One of my favorite shounen series (possibly because I spend a couple decades studying martial arts) and the big climactic fight at the end was lots of fun to watch.  I ran across some videos of scenes from the OVA episodes over on YouTube, but I was wondering if the complete OVA series is available legitimately in the US in either dubbed or subbed format?

Word is that Crunchyroll is dealing with a malware problem at the moment.  Best avoid the site until you see news that it's fixed.

As someone that loves the Spice & Wolf Anime; Since I do not see any more of the anime coming anytime soon, I want to get more of the story. To those who are knowledgable which is the better source/continuation of the story, the Manga, or the Novel Series?

They're both very close to each other, though I would prefer the manga because the artwork is downright gorgeous.  I've read the LNs, the direct translation...I wasn't the biggest fan, but you could plunk me down with a poofy chair, pot of tea, and the S&W manga and I'm good to go for a weekend.

They're both fine, really and pretty interchangeable plot wise as far as adaptations go. I even ended up ditching the manga for the light novel in my impatience to get to the ending, but now that the planned end of the manga is actually in sight (with a planned wrap up in Vol. 16), I've gone back and started filling in the gaps in the collection, so I'd give you the wishy-washy answer of... both.

As I understand, the novels are all out while the manga is still releasing at about one every 3 years.*  They're up to 14 now so there's enough to keep you going for a bit.  As I've mentioned recently, the manga glosses over my favorite part of the anime so I've been tempted to pick up the light novels too.  So maybe both is the right answer.

About Spice & Wolf. Light novels have all been put together into one massive hardcover book, which would make as good Christmas gift as The Complete Chronicles of Conan.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights errant, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Official trailer for Overlord Season 2 is out, will air in January:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2ksX48PBQY

There's hints in here of both volume 4 (lizardmen) and the volume 5/6 double-arc (all those humans) as well as volume 7 (platinum dragon lord; already appeard in second anime movie). The basilisk is from bonus material (volume 6 cd drama), not mainline LN. Not a single hint at volume 8 though, which comes chronologically before volume 5.

Anime New Network has release more details about the upcoming Darling in the Franxx series      So, this is interesting.  Essentially kids saving the world using Mecha.  One the differences is the Mech have personality of it's own.  I thought what was unusual was the Mecha....looks like female version of the Star Driver Mech from couple years ago.

Apparently it has the same Mechanical Artist as Star Driver.

Anime needs more mecha designers who want to be Mamoru Nagano.................

.....Especially since Nagano only turns something out once every three years or so!

To me, both of these Mecha look ridiculous, especially the one on the right.

That's......kinda the point. This is mecha as art or cultural totem, not merely an industrial mechanism. If Darling in the Franxx takes after Five Star Stories & Star Driver, & I have every confidence it will, it will be a super-robot show where the mecha serve as spiritual totems of the character's virtues, not simply as an armored gun-carriage. In projecting into the narrative a sort of larger-than-life knighthood, I think both shows have excellent designs that share an elegant sense of aesthetics!

Giant Mecha is ridiculous in general to begin with, no matter how much they try to candy coat or rationalise it. I'm just glad that they're taking design cues from something other then Knight or Samurai armor for once.

And now for a different topic...

I just got around to viewing the second ep of the Yamato 2199 dub.
I've been comparing the sequence of the Gamilas base on Pluto in the dub to the original Japanese. While the 'language' spoken isn't the same, can anyone else give me a clue as to what the base language is being used in the English dub?

Otherwise on the 2199 dub, I'm having mixed reactions overall. The VAs for the Captain, Kodai, and the Doc are solid. Yuki and Sanada I'm not sure about. But I think the VA for Yuki is getting a bit better. The rest of the mainstays I should have a read on by ep five.
I will say I'm generally pleased with the English dub so far. At least this will help make the winter a little more bearable.

In this case it's the actual Gamilas 'language', which was sub-titled in the original Japanese.
While it doesn't really affect the story, it is more a bit of curiosity. It is the little things that makes 2199 better, IMO.  Especially since there is a number of sequences through out the series spoken in that 'language'

Voice actress Tsuru Hiromi passed away today, possibly from an aortic rupture.  Looks like I'll be listening to tracks from Kimagure Orange Road, Gall Force, Ranma 1/2 and Ghost Sweeper Mikami to hear her singing voice.

Anyone still watching Urahara - and last episode's moment reminiscent of a certain well known series starting with M.M. ?
(now where's that spoiler function again...)
