I'll settle for any place that actually serves those ubiquitous rice balls or pork buns.

You have no idea how excited I was when a ramen shop opened up nearby and I was finally able to see what takoyaki tastes like. Turns out I rather like the stuff, but my wife can't stand the texture.

Takoyaki is the bomb! We've got quite a few places scattered around here that serve all manner of Japanese food. I'm a big gyudon fan, myself, but there's a place nearby called Sutadonya that's specialty is a spiced pork donburi that's mindblowingly good.

As big as it is, the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex...is still stuck in deepest darkest Texas. There's been some improvement in the past several years(Indian places are agreeing to edge their way up from Uncommon, and any meal that sees you venture into one of the Korean/Vietnamese quarters that for the landscape us always a delight), but the area still has a long way to go.

Can i complain that our only Malay restaurant in my small town of about 150k people has closed, leaving me with only a choice between Italian, German, Greek, French, Spanish, American, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Eritrean, Pakistani, Iranian, Ethiopian, Russian, Laotian and Egyptian places - broadly in that order by number of restaurants?

I have no problems, if I want Asian food, I can just make it at home.
But sometimes I do go to Pizzarias as I don't have a proper pizza oven.

really?
i can tell you i lived in few places in new york i could get any type of food within 20 minutes more or less..now i live in NJ aka armpit of usa and where i live now has predominantly asian community...only other store near me that is not an asian market is shop rite. closest asian market is about 20 mjnutes the next one about 25 the third one about 35 3 of the markets have hot food eateries 2 include bakeries there is at least 2 korean style bbq i have 4 chinies restaurants 10 minutes of me 1 pizzaria at least 2 subshops at least 1 indian restaurant 30 minutes from me at least 2 all you can eat within 20 minutes of each other in either direction one of which is chiniese...sadly to get any decent japaniese i have to drive to next town...for polish same thing italian same thing
starbucks about 25 minutes dunkin donuts about 10 minutes...there is always harolds but i rather drive than walk there if i walked i would get there in 45 to an hour 25 there is vietnamiese fast food joint...at lest 1 bubble tea joint 25 minutes away...so i would say i am fortunate when it comes to asian style foods and that is in just south part of town. northern part is predominantly indian,,,and  am not walking 2 hours to get what i want...sorry if you are jealous

Quit your whining. You don't know culinary delinquency until you've been to rural {anywhere}. Iowa! Towns which are in the 4 to 5 digit population numbers are still surprisingly lacking, unless it's a college town, and even then.

I'm lucky to have a McCottos (Not really Italian), Bamboo Garden (Chinese), and two different Mexican Restaurants. But, that's because I live in a county seat. It's still only 5000 people, and I think 2k of that is prison population for the State Pen.  Heck, I'm surprised we even have a couple subways and a McDonalds.

I live on a postage stamp sized island stacked to the brim with people. This sort of means it's easy to find "good enough" cuisine from both the East and West, especially with the country's food culture (seriously, there's a halfway decent Japanese place maybe a 5 minute walk over). On the other hand, when the population density is this high, misanthropy seems the only logical outcome.

Sure, it's easy to find food, but trust me when I say that the grass is always greener.

No argument there. That would be a wonderful bookshelf item for sure.
And heaven forbid HG would do everything in their (non-existent, we hope) power to get a piece of any proper import distribution...

I'm liking the new LOGH. The pacing is good I think, the first two episodes set the setting and protagonists, and now we get a couple of background stories.

The original was also like that. It's not a fast paced show, but a great space opera.

Violet Evergarden is one of those shows where the first three episodes seem really bland and oddly paced.
There's a payoff for that though since Kyo-Ani is setting up the scene for the rest of the emotional beats later down the road.

So that's a caveat worth considering if you only preview a bit.

From the ANN reviews, the anime has a lot of original material. Also the ANN reviewer seemed to carry a bit of a dislike because of that.
Personally, I rather enjoyed Violet Evergarden. But then again, I have no knowledge of the LNs. It's a solid drama with wonderful visuals.

Violet Evergarden's light novel is published by Kyoto Animation themselves with the specific intent of creating the anime. Kyoani does this silly thing where they solicit potential scripts as light novels, grants them "awards", and then animates them. I think it's supposed to encourage people to see them as an artistic studio dedicated to cultivating grass-roots creators, but I can't help but feel like it's just circular self-promotion....

About Violet Evergarden:
From the ANN reviews, the anime has a lot of original material. Also the ANN reviewer seemed to carry a bit of a dislike because of that.
So reviewer's opinion is: "They changed it, now it suck" ? Also LN don't seem to be available in English yet.
