Draconis Combine mechs with Hardened armor?
« on: 05 April 2024, 01:32:00 »
Aside from the Shiro, Rokurokubi, and Hitotsume-Kozo, are there any mechs used by the Draconis Combine that make use of Hardened Armor?

Only other one that comes to mind is the Cyclops C.

The Dracs do have some tanks with hardened armor. Von Luckner, Bulldog, Narukami, Demolisher, Schrek. Galleon 106 though don't recall if homebuilt or imported.
Imported/captured mechs, the Cyclops C.

Cannot find others.

Tanks with hardend Armor pay very litte for it and the -2 to all criticals motor or otherwise make it very attractive. For mechs less so . Max armor on a mech with hardened armor is about 40 percent does not leave much left for anything else

I'm pretty sure that hardened armor doesn't do anything for motive system hits.  Those aren't actually 'critical hits' though they are resolved similarly.

That said, the -2 vs criticals is doubly excellent for tanks.  Since they have an integrated crit chance/effect chart, not only is -2 lowering the probability of a crit, it also lowers the severity of any crits received by a LOT, with most instadeath crits taken off the table entirely.

Hardened armour also affects a Mechwarriors piloting and running no similar negatives to a tank.  If I use it I’m more tempted to upgrade my tanks than my mechs.

Good catch I still think Hardened Armour is for the Tanks.  For me at least.

Hardened Armor just feels weird for the DCMS, outside of tanks.
