Polybolos Attack Helicopter (IS)
« on: 23 October 2016, 21:27:16 »
A turreted LPPC+Capacitor equipped VTOL that comes with a forward mounted recon camera (much like what's on the Apache's nose), and a VTOL Jet Booster. I can neither confirm, nor deny, that it may look extremely similar to the Hellhound from Patlabor, but with an added (much smaller caliber) chin gun.

Named for an ancient repeating crossbow from Greece.

BV & Cost probably are completely wrong as I had to manually add-in the VTOL Jet Booster (SAW still doesn't include them), and I'm guessing on the BattleForce Statistics. In that I believe the movement increase from the booster would be shown in the same way that the increase from MASC, TSM, and/or a Supercharger would show up in a unit's BattleForce Statistics. Please correct me if I'm wrong so I can edit my save file, as I'm planning to use this as a custom design (modified Yellowjacket model), and I don't want to end up using an illegal design due to either BV/Cost being wrong, or the BFS being wrong.

I tried building it in HeavyMetalVee (I know it's outdated, but I can't get SAW to work on my computers).
And it ended up 4 equipment/item slots over the limit.
Here it is.

I had to remove the Magshot and turn the Armor into Light FerroFibrous.

As I understand it ammo was changed to not taking up any equipment slots at some point. I guess PPC caps might fall under that too.

SAW is the armor part of SSW. It was included in my download of SSW.
SSW = Solaris Skunk Werks, SAW = Solaris Armor Werks.

It takes guts to make a VTOL .  I found that only in a target rich environment with much easier targets do such things get to live any real amount of time . I think this design is over gunned and a little slow for a VTOL . As for armor VTOLS do not lose much using Laser Reflective or Stealth . The Warrior S9 is the only one that I  have seen that is expected to live in any fight but unlike yours does not have a decisive amount of guns. As for the Recon Camera check out putting it in a VTOL Mast position .  So depending on the opposition force how long does your VTOL lasts is problematical . Your unit is cheap but has to fight inside a combined arms with heavy slow units to shine .

Depends on how you're going to use it. Load this up with Thunder LRMs & Infernos, and this immediately changes from a 'sniper/gunship' design, into a tactical support unit. Use the booster (Move of 14) to quickly leap across a mapboard, drop a couple of minefields, and set some forests ablaze to funnel targets where you want them to go. The LPPC lets it hit from a range that a surprising number of 'Mechs and vehicles can't hit back at (especially considering how hard it is to accurately hit a VTOL), with the bonus of using the capacitor to build up a boosted shot for that one moment you're in range, before darting back out range. The Magshot is mostly there to deal with PBIs & BAs that are unlucky enough to be spotted as it over-flies an area, and again, hitting from outside the range of most BAs. This is a unit you never stop moving, making hit'n'run passes. That or you keep it tucked away in your corner of the map, only to dash in
