Capellan fighters bombed the HPG station
Isn't that the kind of thing that can get you into a lot of trouble as a nation?

Actually a lot less than the trouble caused in Canon.  ComStar is the Department of Communications a Star League agency which the Succession States run.  The last remnant of ComStar is the 1st Royal ComGuard Regimental Brigade purely military.  The only way for a nation to face interdiction is by unanimous vote... most likely the Capellans will have to pay for the station.

Very snazzy list, I bet the canon universe would be envious of your AU having so many to play with.  O0

Comment: Kirishima II Class Destroyer ???   Why is it a Destroyer in your universe? She be a big cruiser in the original..or were.

In the Federation Funs fleet listing, you have two FSS Bravery.

Why are the FedSun ships so scattered about?  Do they have actual formal squadron formations?  I'm surprised since the Star League seems to have them.

No formations for the Federated Suns mainly as I wanted to avoid multiple 'ramming speed' commands in a single fight :D nah more serious they don't use formations mainly because of politics you'll notice the First Prince II deployments they are not just for show

At the same time I've built up the FSN but the command structure is woefully weak at the moment it is mostly broken down by March and by defence requirement.

If the Homeworld Clans win (lose) the Homeworld Clans gain something from the Invaders - mainly resources from the Inner Sphere or Warden troops.

Eh? I'm lost  ??? Where's this bit from?

Harvest Trials, Kerensky Cluster
Clan Homeworlds, Clan Space
1st July 3059

In an effort to boost troops assigned to the Inner Sphere Clans Jade Falcon, Wolf, Smoke Jaguar and Ghost Bear begin to fight a series of trials against the Homeworld Clans.  Every one of these Harvest Trials decides the fate of several hundred troops of the Homeworld Clans, if the Invading Clans win these troops become members of the Invading Clans weakening the Homeworld Clans but strengthening the Clans.  If the Homeworld Clans loose the Homeworld Clans gain something from the Invaders - mainly resources from the Inner Sphere or Warden troops.

Computer problem, was the reason I did only the line. Sorry :-[ I am using a Dell Optiplex 50 with 384 Mb ram. Have no money to update with. :(

Time for a proper update  O0  And this is a busy one.

I didn't write all this one.  Once again some excellent writing from James Tanaga has brought the Fire Mandrills to life again.

 Hope you enjoy.

Nova Cat Reinforcements
New Aega, Nova Cat's Den
Periphery
4th September 3090

From the cockpit of her Shadow Cat OmniMech Star Commander Sonja Rosse could feel the vibrations through her Mech as the Broadsword-class DropShip dived through the atmosphere.  She felt nervous, it was strange, she had seen combat before but this was her first combat with a Bloodname, it really did make a difference.

“BattleMechs, this is Bridge, SLDF forces have pushed out to the primary OZ.  DropShips are redirecting, hang on.”

“Bridge, this is Star Commander Rosse, request permission for a hover-drop insertion over Primary OZ.”

“There are hostile BattleMechs and Armour attempting to overwhelm DropShips...” the DropShip commander warned.

“Understood, open the doors” Sonja ordered realizing the pilot would react better to an order from a Bloodnamed warrior than a request from a Star Commander.

“Aff, opening doors.”  The commander reported Sonja steadied her OmniMech as she stepped it closer to the doors.  Slowly the doors opened in front of the Shadow Cat.  “Leveling out, watch out for hostiles.”

“Understood, Striker One away” she called out of the Mech bay triggering her Mech's jump jets.  She heard the other four members of the star calling out as there Mechs stepped off the DropShip.  As she dropped through the air Sonja scanned the ground seeing several green painted BattleMechs and Armoured vehicles battling against the darker coloured Nova Cat units.  All around the falling Nova Cats were other DropShips and aerospace fighters supporting the reinforcements insertion.  Sighting a Star League BattleMech, a fifty-five ton Wraith BattleMech, blasting away with its lasers she aimed her OmniMech's Gauss rifle at the BattleMech and fired a shot.  The supersonic slug crossed the distance between the two slamming into the Mech's torso knocking the warrior back.  Sonja increased the jump jet output on her OmniMech as it fell slowing her descent “Striker One down.”  She called out immediately her OmniMech was slammed by a flight of Long Range Missiles the Shadow Cat rocked heavily as the high explosive warheads ripped at her Mech's armoured hide.  Turning around she spotted the origin of the missiles a Joust Medium Tank.  Sonja snarled angrily as she cut off another gauss rifle shot at the vehicle originally produced by Clan Nova Cat, she guessed that Clan Sea Fox had sold it to the SLDF but it could have easily been traded by a Nova Cat trader.  Trade of weapons was always a double edged sword although it brought resources into the Clan one day those weapons could be turned against the seller, just like today.

Sonja never even bothered to watch as the supersonic slug slammed into the Joust's turret turning away she turned back to see the Wraith she had attacked through her decent.  With the Gauss Rifle still reloading she targeted both her Mech's Extended-Range Medium Lasers on the Wraith striking the Mech's torso with both blasts.  The Wraith returned fire with its pulse lasers burning away some of her Mech's leg armour.  Sidestepping her Shadow Cat Sonja glanced at her gauss rifle's status and saw the weapon go green indicating it was reloaded ready to fire with a glance up she pulled the trigger sending another shot into the medium design the gauss slug slammed into the Wrath's faceplate decapitating the medium Mech.  “They are falling back” another Nova Cat's voice reported over the radio glancing around Sonja could see several SLDF and Taurian Concordat Mechs turning around that the Taurians had supported the SLDF's actions made Sonja even more angry her father had given the Taurians a chance at peace with the Nova Cats, instead they had thrown it in the Clan's face with this attack.  Sonja Rosse didn't feel this fight was over just yet throwing her Mech into the air she scanned the Battlefield finding the Joust she had damaged before was part of the group retreating firing both her lasers she was satisfied seeing one burn across the side of the vehicle, although it was nothing that would threaten the tank or its crew she had put them on notice that the next time they would not be so lucky to be able to retreat.

Throne Room, Davion Royal Palace
Avalon City, New Avalon
Crucis March, Federated Suns
14th September 3090

The Federated Suns navy and planetary defences had been put on alert as an unknown vessel had been detected entering the system via a pirate point.  Their fears had been put at ease slightly as the SLS Mopelia Island, the Star League Defence Force's newest Patriot-class Heavy Cruiser, had emerged from the jump broadcasting its IFF.  Communicating with the ground the Mopelia Island had informed New Avalon that onboard they had General Katya Christifori, Head of Star League Intelligence, who needed to speak with the First Lord immediately.  Under escort of the FSS Destiny, one of the Federated Suns First Prince Block II-class Battleships, the Mopelia Island had been allowed to enter New Avalon orbit with Katya taking a DropShuttle directly from the DropShip to the Royal Palace.  Such unannounced arrivals were not common even from high ranking members of the AFFS as First Prince of the Federated Suns and First Lord of the Star League Victor planned to make abundantly clear to General Christifori that she better have a good reason for the manner of her arrival.  He knew Katya quite well having met her on several occasions with her husband, retired Commanding-General Archer Christifori, he also knew she was a former Lyran Commonwealth Intelligence Officer.

The doors opened and General Katya Christifori marched into the throne room saluting in traditional Star League Defence Force style.  “Sir, I apologies for the unannounced visit” despite her Lyran heritage he noticed she used her military position instead of respect for his rank and position within the SLDF.

“You are very lucky, General” Victor said raising from the throne “when last a ship arrived unannounced in this system it was commanded by Anastasius Focht.  I informed him that day he was lucky not to lose his ship, you are similarly lucky, we do not take intrusion into this system lightly.”

“I apologies again, First Prince Davion, I have a matter that effects the stability of the Star League and of the Federated Suns border.”  She explained she said producing a small computer pad passing it to the Federated Suns leader “on this noteputer is details of recent findings by the Star League Intelligence Corps.”  She said pausing for a moment as he began to look at the information “as you are aware the SLIC were tasked with investigating what happened to cause the First Royal ComGuard Brigade to go rogue and assault Clan Nova Cat held space.”  She said as he read the summary page of the report “we began on Althea's Choice.”  She began “although the First RCG Brigade removed much of the salvage from the battlefield there were two BattleMech Chassis and three Elemental Battle Armour suits that had been deemed as too badly damaged to be recovered in the limited time they had before launching their attack.”  Victor nodded as he changed the display screen showing an image of three badly damaged Elemental suits all had suffered severe damage and still had blood on them, most likely from the troopers who had worn them.  The next screen showed what looked like a Nova Medium OmniMech and a Summoner Heavy OmniMech, the Nova lacked both of its arms one looked like it had been completely blown off while the other was severed in the middle of the arm while the Summoner was missing both its legs which had been severed at the knees and the cockpit, both were painted in Nova Cat camouflage however they looked wrong to Victor.

Although the First Prince knew that each Clan had examples of nearly every type of Clan Mech in their Toumans and few considered any type of fighting equipment to be taboo or beneath their use Victor knew that both of these OmniMechs were far more popular with Clan Jade Falcon he had fought against both types of OmniMechs during the early stages of the Clan War.  “Five examples of Clan technology does not prove anything, General, in fact I would say it goes to prove the First RCG's case.”

“We didn't stop there, sir, our agents tested the remains of the Battle Armour troopers” she said Victor imagined that had not been the most pleasant of jobs given the state of the armour “none of the three troopers were of Elemental birth” again not conclusive evidence Victor knew that the Clans employed freeborn, or natural born, warriors in their Elemental forces.  “In fact one, at one point, applied for SLDF Battle Armour training.”

“SLDF” Victor said surprised praying that this attack had not been perpetrated by their own people, that would really set the Nova Cats off and could kill the Star League Defence Force's future.

“He applied but did not get through basic training.  He was originally born on Taurus but had emigrated to the Capellan Confederation when a child.  When he failed to join the Capellan military he chose to try and join the SLDF.”

   “What did he fail on?”

“Psych evaluation” Katya explained Victor was surprised he had failed to make it in the Capellan Armed Forces, the last he checked 'a little crazy' was part of their recruitment policy.  Katya made no effort to read the amusement that played on Victor's face instead carrying on “as the Battle Armour Corps is quite often the SLDF's first contact with the general public each of its candidate troopers are screened this particular warrior showed a tendency to resolve conflict with conflict striking first at his enemy in sometimes the nastiest way.

“Could he have joined a mercenary force and been captured by the Nova Cats?”  Victor asked Katya shook her head.

“Once we had established that he was who we believed we tracked his personal details through the records of private companies transporting personnel and equipment in the region of the Capellan Confederation, St Ives Compact and Federated Suns Capellan March.”

“Records which are supposed to be sealed and under State oversight not SLDF.”  Victor said angrily although he respected everyone who joined the SLDF and wished them all the success he did not like them stepping over their bounds and oaths, not did he like that neither the DMI or MIIO had picked up on this infringement.

“Sir, you ordered us to find the truth to this attack.  This was the length we had to go to.”   Katya explained equally serious as the First Prince had been angry Victor nodded for her to continue.  “Sir, we tracked his name to Taurus.  There he enlisted with the Taurian Concordat again choosing to join ground forces and to join the Battle Armour training program.  The Taurians do not have the same checks or requirements as the SLDF.  He was successful in joining the Taurian military.”

“An inside job?  The Taurians attacked the SLDF?”  He said now becoming irritated again “why?  Where did they acquire so much Clan technology to pull off such a strike?”  He asked none of this was making enough sense.

“Once part of the Taurian military he served for three years before completely disappearing from sight.  After our people had established that he had served in the Taurian military we began to look at the other elements of this puzzle.  Members of the SLIC challenged and won a dual with a Sea Fox merchant based on Spica, there we gained access to their trading records.”  Victor nodded he had heard of intelligence agencies challenging the Foxes before for information more often than not bargaining some of their own information in return.  He knew of three instances the DMI had engaged in such activities and had become quite annoyed when he had been informed that the DMI had not always been successful in such activities.  “Under a fake Taurian Marshal's name the Taurian Concordat have been funneling funds and resources to Clan Sea Fox.  In return the Sea Fox Clan have been providing the Taurians with Clan equipment.”

“You can hardly blame them.  The Capellan Confederation has hardly been a stable place recently and Clan Nova Cat is active in the Fronc Reaches which is on the Taurian front door, their new colonies have brought them closer and closer to Taurian claimed systems.  I would not be surprised if Clan Nova Cat launch raids against the Taurians?” He saw Katya nod confirming that the SLDF was aware of such activity “so how can you blame the Taurians for trying to acquire such material?  The Federated Suns do the same as does the SLDF, this is why trading worlds such as Spica, Hamilton, Itabiana and Kyeinnisan exist.”  He said naming the four trading worlds in the Succession States the only nation not to feature such a world was the Capellan Confederation due to problems the Sea Fox Clan and the Capellans had experienced on Sarna.

“Yes First Lord, however the Taurian line regiments have not become much stronger despite the Sea Fox Clan providing them with more than a regiment worth of equipment.”  Victor looked at Katya surprised the Taurians had been able to acquire so much.  “Instead with the Sea Fox records we tracked these shipments to a single location the Davetal system.  In the heart of the Taurian Concordat not a single Sea Fox ship was allowed to offload their equipment on the planet instead they were ordered to dock with two modified Shoden Mining Stations which act as sentries for the system.”

“Why spend such an amount of resources on a system so deep inside their borders?”

“Unknown, so far we have not been able to penetrate their defences.  Each time we do we come across troopers belonging to a unit we have never seen before.” She explained as Victor changed the screen onto the last page showing a Taurian uniform arm with a red ancient Greek “Omega” letter from Terra superimposed over a blue number six.  “For obvious reasons we have dubbed this unit Omega Six.”  She said Victor nodded looking at the image before scrolling back through the images.

“And this evidence points towards this unit?  Anyone within the Taurian Government implicated?”

“I'm sorry, sire” she said more respectfully as she apologized again “we have not got enough information on that.”

“I understand, General, I will take this to the Nova Cat Ambassador and hopefully end this conflict.  I wish for you to remain on New Avalon for the foreseeable future I do not assume that will be a problem?”  He asked

“No, sir, the SLS Mopelia Island, myself and the four teams of the Eighty-Third Special Operations Battalion, of the SAS, are at your disposal until this problem is resolved.”  She explained Victor nodded liking the idea of having the Patriot-class Heavy Cruiser and its Special Forces troopers around.

“Hopefully Arch won't mind too much?”  He said on a more personal note talking of her husband retired SLDF Commanding-General and Governor of Thorin Archer Christifori.  Victor had served with Archer during the Clan War when they had both served within the Tenth Lyran Guards RCT.

“He has left me waiting plenty of times First Lord, perhaps it is my turn.”  She said with an amused smile.

“I will have an office set up for you at the Palace.”  He offered she nodded a silent reply Victor looked at the pad again holding it tightly, hopefully this was the start of ending the current conflict.

Fire Mandrill Settlement
All Dawn, Rim Collection
Periphery
19th September 3090

Kindraa Leader Cassandra Faraday sat on a play-ground swing, watching children playing while their parents watched them. Both the children and their parents kept their distance from her, though she did not mind. The cool morning air brushed at her back as she kept to her thoughts.  The past few weeks had been a period of transition to both her people and to the population of All Dawn. The first few days was filled with tension on both sides, but by following the advice from the few members of Clan Sea Fox with them and acting as refugees rather than conquerors that tension had largely dissipated.  Until last week. That tension returned nearly in full though, as news of a ship from the Rim Collection had managed to jump away from All Dawn minutes after arriving had given these people hope. And meant her people were once again in danger. The enclave was on full alert and orders have been given in case her Kindraa once again needed to evacuate. Within Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga there was a strong sense of anger, but also with one of hopelessness, with many beginning to think they would never find a new home.

Two days ago, a negotiation team from the Rim Collection jumped into the system on board the same JumpShip that had escaped. This time, though, the ship had been identified as the RCS Enduring Freedom, a Merchant-class JumpShip specially modified with a L-F battery and gifted to the Rim Collection by the Star League when the Rim Collection regained its independence from the Lyran Commonwealth.  Galaxy Commander Evangeline Clarke of the Steelsoul Khanate, herself having arrived just hours earlier had identified the ship, had also pointed out that the Star League Ambassador had traveled to the Collection aboard it. The mere fact it was carrying the Star League ambassador meant they had to proceed with caution. Her Kindraa could not risk angering the Star League; not yet, she thought with a small feral smile.

Back in the play-ground a pink and blue ball rolled to her, bringing her out of her thoughts, looking to where it came from she noted a small group of children.  They were looking at her and each other, as if trying to gather the courage to come get the ball; finally a young girl seemed to gather enough courage to do so. She ran forward to the ball, only to stop a few feet from it as Cassandra stood up off the swing. Staring at the young girl, the warrior saw many emotions come across the young girl’s face; displayed there was anger and fear, but also courage, Cassandra noted to herself, giving the girl a small nod of encouragement.  Ever so slowly the girl crept her way to the ball, staring at Cassandra, no she was glaring at the Clan woman.  Definitely had courage, Cassandra thought as she silently watched the young girl finally reached for the ball.  Cassandra took the two steps it took to reach the ball as well.  'Let me see if you have brains as well' Cassandra thought the smile remaining on her face. ‘Many sibko children did not at your age.’

As the girl leaned down to get the ball, Cassandra did as well, putting her hand on the top, pinning the ball to the ground.  Cassandra saw a frown come across the girl’s face, just as what had to be her mother come running behind her.  She stopped only a couple feet away from them her eyes shifting back and forth from her daughter to Cassandra. Finally the young girl spoke “Can I have the ball back please?”  So she does have brains asking before trying to take the ball from the Clan warrior, Cassandra thought, as she continued looking at the young child. Finally she nodded and let go of the ball. Watching the girl grab the ball and turn around, she saw the girl’s mother wrap her arms around her, whispering quietly to her as they turned back.

A voice startled her snapping her from the small scene. “Enjoying scaring the locals to death Cassandra?” Jacob Faraday, her lover and the Loremaster of Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga asked.

“Neg. I came here to gather my thoughts. You know I enjoy seeing children smile and laugh even if they are Freeborn and not of our Clan.”

“Aff,” was her sibkin’s reply. She made it a point throughout her leading Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga to be seen with the lower castes, fostering a very healthy respect between all the castes. He continued. “Jerold Danforth just reported the Rim Collection negotiation team has landed. He and Evangeline Clarke are with them and are bringing them to HQ.”  Cassandra’s smile turned into a snarl, for the mentioned Crusader warrior had long become a thorn in her side. His strength of leadership and ability to put the good of the Kindraa before the good of the Crusader cause allowed her to respect him however.  The Sea Fox warrior Evangeline Clarke had been invaluable to the Sea Fox Clan so far although they had to give the Foxes much it was a service well worth it.

“Let us get this over with,” she answered him.

“Aff,” was his reply. “Perhaps later we could enjoy the company of each other.” He winked at the end.

Rolling her eyes, despite the seriousness of the situation the man still had time to think about sex, she answered him nonetheless with a single word and a knowing smile of her own. “Perhaps.” Quickly, they exited the park and reached their vehicle, where two burly warriors of Elemental stock guarded. Once inside they made their way back to HQ in quiet silence.

Later at their HQ Cassandra Faraday rested her head on her hand, listening to the head of the Rim Collection negotiation team, an elder man as old as Jerold Danforth in a black suit.  His name was Robert Strauss and he knew how to speak, no argue with Jacob Faraday.  Back and forth, the two had argued over every little thing, while she, Jerold Danforth, Theodore Albiev, and the young Star League ambassador, Joseph Conway, a man of thirty-some years of age kept quiet, allowing the Sea Fox Galaxy Commander Evangeline Clarke to play the mediator in this dispute.  Fortunately it was something that Clan Sea Fox had done quite well throughout its history, she thought, with no small disgust; they had always found themselves a way to find themselves useful.  Still the Sea Fox Khanate Evangeline Clarke led was perhaps their only ally the Fire Mandrills of Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga had at the moment and were the only way that her people could establish themselves over a longer term.  Fortunately the Sea Fox woman had somehow kept the negotiations going forward until this issue reared its ugly head. Jacob Faraday had demanded total secrecy for their Kindraa, something that Robert Strauss said was simply not possible due to All Dawn being the primary entry point into the Rim Collection. Something she, nor her Mandrills, had thought of when they selected this world as their new home. Truthfully, they only selected the world as it lay on the Lyran Commonwealth’s border. The fact they could control the Rim Collection through this small world gave her Kindraa a huge advantage in these negotiations, however.

She came out of her thoughts as she heard Ambassador Joseph Conway speak, causing her to lift her head from her hand to listen to him. “The SLDF will likely inform the Lyrans of you being here, for it is their duty to serve each of the Star League's member states after all. Secrecy is just not possible.” Cassandra saw her lover start to say something, only to be stopped as the ambassador continued, no doubt angering the prideful warrior. “However, you see the new Star League it is what it is, we have responsibilities to our member states. I propose something different.”

She raised her hand to silence her people as she nodded giving the younger man her permission to continue. “Secrecy just is not possible," he repeated "Your WarShips are a dead giveaway something is not right. Your detaining of JumpShips will antagonize the Lyrans and the Star League into handling you, aggressively."  He said quietly. Theodore Albiev and Jerold Danforth both raised to their feet antagonized by Joseph Conway's words, causing Cassandra to once again raise her hand in an instant silencing their responses as Robert Strauss spoke up.

"Kindraa Leader, I can inform you now that the Rim Collection would prefer to avoid a military confrontation.  We have only recently regained our independence we have no wish to become involved in something that may lead to us rejoining the Lyran Commonwealth, nor would we welcome an influx of SLDF troops within our territory.” He paused, but shortly after he continued. “What I propose is this. Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga of Clan Fire Mandrill will provide 'services' to the Rim Collection" he said carefully seeing the reactions play on the Fire Mandrill's faces "and in return, the Rim Collection will allow Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga to remain on All Dawn, but will not interfere with the local population unless it effects the safety of your people.  All Dawn will remain a member world of the Rim Collection" Strauss said sternly. "Your Kindraa will join as an additional member, will have a full say in Rim Collection politics, and will remain so as long as they continue to provide agreed upon services for the Rim Collection.  Should the Rim Collection or Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga decide to leave this agreement, Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga will peacefully leave the Rim Collection after a period of three months under SLDF escort, either deeper into the Inner Sphere or to the borders of the Rim Collection.” Not once did he use a contraction, impressive, Cassandra thought to herself. She hated the idea of her Kindraa, what remained of her Clan, being little more than mercenaries to the Rim Collection's side.

Jerold Danforth spoke for what was in many of her thoughts then. “This…agreement effectively means we become dezgra mercenaries!” Cassandra caught the eye of Evangeline Clarke, the Khanates of her Clan were in a similar position, living their lives on worlds of other nations and in the dark of space.

“It is that or Annihilation,” Evangeline Clarke pointed out gaining angry views from the Fire Mandrills.  “You can follow the rest of your Clan.”  She spat out she was equally angry with the surviving Mandrills than she was those who remained in the Clan Homeworlds.  One piece of information that the Clan had brought with them was to confirm that the WarShip Armageddon, a Sea Fox Potemkin-class Troop Cruiser had been captured by the Society in the Periphery before it could return to the Inner Sphere.

“And Clan Sea Fox has similar agreements concerning their Khanates.” Conway said nodding his thanks to Clarke as he brought the Fire Mandrill warriors gaze back on him. The Sea Fox were independent in this, there was no need for Clarke to take the brunt of the Fire Mandrill anger.

“That is true,” answered Evangeline Clarke. “Yet we are only contracted to defend worlds our enclaves share, not an entire nation, and we do control our own territory when it is required.”

The room became quiet, as both sides seemed to gather themselves for the next confrontation. Cassandra and Jerold both looked at each and nodded it was time to break the cycle. “We will remain on All Dawn regardless of what is threatened towards us.  Our people will not run any longer."  She said defiantly she knew that was what her people needed to hear, it was however, also the last thing that Robert Strauss and Joseph Conway wanted to hear.  "However we are not the Smoke Jaguars," she said naming the former clan. She knew the image of that Clan and its fall would hit her own people especially since they had died at the hands of the new Star League.  "Provided we can come into an agreement with the Rim Collection concerning specifically these services our people will provide," she said carefully, "our Kindraa will stop interdicting JumpShips, we will help defend this world and the Rim Collection. Understand this, however, we are Warriors of Kerensky, we are not mercenary scum to be ordered about. We will work with you, not for you. Quiaff?”

Some of her Mandrills started to speak up Cassandra thought for a moment he would they would speak out against her, before any could speak Jerold Danforth slammed his fist on the table, eliciting a jump from many in the room, including Conway, Strauss and the Sea Fox Evangeline Clarke. “As long as the Rim Collection minds its place, and remembers who we are it has my support.”

As her Mandrills became quiet once again, Cassandra Faraday spoke up. “The next move is yours, it seems we have made our decision and our new bed.”  Slowly, but surely, the agreement was drawn up. It took an additional four days of intense arguing, but eventually it was completed. Clan Fire Mandrill had finally found a home.

Starliner One, Main Conference Room
Unknown Periphery System
20th September 3090

Standing in front of the cameras Sir Richard Branson X spoke to reporters that would carry this story throughout the Inner Sphere as Virgin Interstellar unveiled its next big project.  The Starliner One had journeyed from Terra to be the observation point for the launch of Virgin Interstellar's next big project the Starliner Two.  Richard Branson X had chosen this remote system for two reasons firstly it was because this was where the WarShip that had become the Starliner Two was being held by the SLDF and secondly it was because this project was something a little different for Virgin Interstellar unlike the Starliner One's original mission to take people around the Inner Sphere on one continuous multi-year journey the Starliner Two would follow a different path.

“So ladies and gentlemen that is what the Starliner Two plans to do.”  Richard Branson X said he was a middle aged man, he had kept his body in shape with various sports activities during his life and now his hair and goatee were both silver in colour.  He looked out at the crowd seeing their stunned faces and tried not to smile.  “Questions?”  He asked instead of the usual rush made by reporters trying to be first it took several moments before one stood up.

“Sir Branson, Simmone Ashe Interstellar News Network, are you seriously telling us that the Starliner Two is a generation ship?  That will take people away from the Inner Sphere.”

“Well yes that is what the Starliner Two is but we don't plan to be on the ship for the rest of our lives.  It is a scientific and social experiment more than anything.  The vessel we have selected for the Starliner Two was once a Carrack-class Transport vessel in services with the Star League Defence Force.  Due to some combat, which unfortunately I am unable to detail this ship has completely lost her ability to jump from system to system.  The Star League Defence Force has the ability to repair this ship however we at Virgin Interstellar have had a superior idea.”  He said proudly “there are scientific experiments that cannot be completed within the bounds of a laboratory.  JumpShips and their attending DropShips very often do not have the space or the time to be involved in such experiments so we have turned the Starliner Two into the largest traveling laboratory ever created.  We will take twenty years to travel with this ship into the depths of space and explore the areas between the stars, the Starliner Two has its own water recycling systems, we will grow our own food, and we will create our own entertainment.”

“Sir Branson, you are saying we a lot.  Surely you mean the people on board the Starliner Two?”  A male reporter with a brown suit and blonde hair asked.

“No Jamar” he said recognizing the reporter “I mean we, I have chosen to travel on board the Starliner Two.”  He said stunning the reporters now unlike before there was a swarm of reporters raising from their chairs but Richard Branson ignored them all raising his hands calming them to silence “ladies and gentlemen.  I have spent the last forty years of my life building Virgin Interstellar into the company that it is today.  I have pioneered the way that the people of the Inner Sphere see Interstellar Travel and how they see WarShips, you are the product of that today standing on board a vessel that was once a tool of destruction which is now a passenger vessel.”  He said stressing the point “my company nor the people of the Inner Sphere need my continued interference to continue.  Instead I think I'd like to write my memoirs and have some time to explore another area of my life.”  He said seeing the reporters trying to comprehend his choice.  “Now perhaps you would like to see the Starliner Two?”  He said as the room lights darkened the massive clam-shell doors covering the massive space window began to open revealing the darkness of space.  It was a strange feeling to be beside such a massive window that looked out onto space thick enough to resist a minor impact the window was completely transparent standing so close to the window Richard could almost reach out and touch space.

The view was incredible as was the sight directly in front of the window several thousand metres away the massive two-point-three million ton, almost three kilometre long Newgrange-class Yardship the SLS Mercy hung in space.  Alongside the massive green painted vessel were several DropShips and aerospace fighters.  “Ladies and Gentlemen this is not the Starliner Two, but instead this is the Star League Starship Mercy, one of only three known survivors of the Newgrange-class Yardship employed by the First Star League Defence Force.”  He explained to those not aware of what the massive vessel was it truly was spectacular especially given the views from the Starliner One's observation deck.  “And this is the Starliner Two” He announced as the massive forward doors of the Newgrange opened, the vessel was gigantic but as the massive “jaw”-like doors at the front of the ship opened the reporters could see another far smaller ship exiting from the craft.  She was painted in the same colours as the Starliner One a white base with a deep red lower hull.  “at three hundred thousand tons and nearly a kilometre in length the Starliner Two will play host to myself and six thousand other volunteers, crewmen and scientists as we travel through the void between systems.  On board are dozens of relay communication satellites which we will use to send messages back to the Inner Sphere and hopefully received letters from family and from those interested in this journey.  All details of this journey will be broadcast along the Star League's Entertainment Grid and be available to all subscribers.”  He said getting in the company briefing “this is a journey into the unknown, a journey of a lifetime, and we plan to make the most of it.”  He said finishing off his presentation as the Starliner Two turned away from the Mercy moving over the Starliner One passing directly over the observation deck allowing the reporters to see the modified Carrack's own observation decks and special modifications for future scientific experiments.  As the ship disappeared from view the reporters burst into applause Sir Richard Branson X stood smiling knowing that yet again his company had succeeded where no other had even tried, this story would sell across the Inner Sphere and make millions his legacy was secured and the journey had yet to begin.

St Ives Garrison Contracts
St Ives Compact Claimed space
22nd September 3090

With the Capellan Confederation continuing to raid the beleaguered St Ives Compact the remains of this small nation are boosted by the arrival of Khasparov's Knights and the Blanc's Coyotes Mercenary Regiments.  Unlike the mercenary units which St Ives had “borrowed” from the Federated Suns these units would fight for the St Ives Compact and hopefully begin to stem the tide of the Capellan advance.  Arriving nearly simultaneously the units are posted to Nashuar and St Loris both on the Capellan border to boost the St Ives defenders.

Time for the next bit

Diplomatic Meeting, Nova Cat Embassy
Avalon City, New Avalon
Crucis March, Federated Suns
1st October 3090

Within the Nova Cat Embassy on New Avalon the Nova Cats were on their highest alert ever since they took up residence on the world.  No attack was expected but the embassy was playing host to a very special visitor with the First Prince of the Federated Suns, and First Lord of the reformed Star League, Victor Steiner-Davion visiting.  The fact that Victor was visiting an Embassy in his own capital city showed how seriously that the Star League and its First Lord were taking the current conflict with Clan Nova Cat.  Elementals in Battle Armour suits stepped aside at the front door allowing the entry of two troopers wearing Infiltrator III Heavy Battle Armour suits.  These suits were painted in the deep green of the Star League Defence Force and carried the insignia of the Royal Black Watch along with the Cameron Star.  Behind them Victor Steiner-Davion entered wearing the uniform of a Star League Defence Force Commanding-General all three showing who Victor represented with this visit.

“Ambassador Grayson of Clan Nova Cat, I am First Lord Victor Steiner-Davion and I would like to discuss the ongoing conflict on the world of New Aega.  And the reasons behind that conflict.”  Victor said formally.

“Clan Nova Cat will welcome such a discussion.”  Grayson said turning to the side allowing Victor to enter the room behind Grayson.  As Grayson followed the First Lord a Nova Cat lower-casteman wearing all white pulled the door closed.  “First Lord, please take a seat” Grayson said moving around the large rectangular wood table that dominated the room.

“Thank you, Star Colonel” Victor said taking a chair, Grayson stepped around the desk and sat down across from the First Lord.  “Recently I have tasked the Star League Intelligence Corps into routing out the reason why the First RCG launched their assault on New Aega.  We initially believed that they were attacked by a Clan Nova Cat Supernova Trinary.”

“Which did not occur...”  Grayson began before Victor began to speak again breaking over Grayson.

“I know” Victor admitted “Star Colonel the SLIC discovered, and DMI confirmed, that the Nova Cats were not responsible for the attack on the First Royal ComGuard Brigade.”  Grayson nodded “we have also discovered who did conduct the attack.  A Taurian Concordat...”

“Taurian...!” Grayson shouted raising from his chair, Victor slowly raised to his feet as well, he was very glad he had told his Battle Armoured bodyguards not to react unless he directly called out for them.

“Yes... But not a Taurian unit under its government's flag.”  Victor began to explain “at least not as far as we believe” Victor admitted, it was possible that someone deep within the Taurian Concordat was supporting Omega Six but so far evidence had not been found.

“Where are they based?  To give them up as responsible is not enough, they must answer to our Clan's grievance.”  Grayson demanded looking at the First Lord his anger in check, just.

“They have not only caused a grievance with your Clan Star Colonel, they have caused they have cause plenty of trouble for the Star League Defence Force as well, should you invade the Taurian Concordat then there will be untold destruction on both sides.”

“The Taurian Concordat cannot resist us they have neither the defences or the armies to stop us.”  Grayson said confidently.

“But should you come into conflict with the Taurian Concordat the Star League Defence Force and, by extension of our alliance, the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns will be drawn into conflict with your Clan.  You will face us all.”  Victor said with a grim determination he needed to make sure the Nova Cats understood the total consequences in their actions.

“These actions cannot go unanswered!”  Grayson said angrily.

“I agree with you Star Colonel” Victor admitted “however it needs to be done in the correct way.”  He said pausing retaking his seat “the Taurian government are aware that the Star League Intelligence Corps have been operating within the Taurian Concordat.  I will inform them that we  have identified a raider base hostile to the Taurian Concordat and the Star League and I will request permission to engage these forces.”

“Request” Grayson said angrily “we do not request First Lord.  These people have wronged our people, they have wronged your people, we strike back at them.  What if the Taurians are aware of this unit that you speak of and they discreetly move them?  Our opportunity is lost Quiaff?”

“That would be the case” Victor admitted

“Then we strike at them without warning, you can inform the Taurians after our operations are over.”

“Which could cause a far wide ranging conflict.  Understand the Taurians have never given up the use of nuclear weapons when the need arises.”  Victor cautioned the Nova Cat.

“And that would be a mistake.”  Grayson said sitting opposite Victor.

“Allow me to inform the Taurians we will be conducting an operation against suspected forces on Althea's Choice.”  Victor said naming the original Taurian world that the First ComGuard Regimental Brigade had been attacked on.  “I will deploy forces there however the main SLDF force will rendezvous with a Clan Nova Cat strike force for the main fight.”

“And just how long will all that take?  The longer this goes on the longer your people will remain on New Aega.”

“I can have a message to the Taurians within an hour.  Forces can be within striking distance of Althea's Choice within the month.  I will leave New Avalon with the First Royal Black Watch Brigade and the SLS Mopelia Island with you to join the Nova Cat strike force.”

   “You will, Quiaff?”

“Aff” Victor said using the Clan response “the Star League takes this threat seriously Star Colonel.”  Grayson nodded his agreement to the plan studying the First Lord's face.  “Perhaps the success of this operation will prove that the Star League was formed for the protection of all of humanity.”

“It is agreed” Grayson finally said “I will pass on your terms to saKhan Michael Drummond.  I will also have this agreement passed to the First Royal ComGuards, if they stop operations against us, then we will leave them alone.”

Principality of Regulus Offensive
Principality of Regulus
Former Free Worlds League
3rd October 3090

Intent on building a cushion around Regulus the Principality of Regulus launches twin attacks on the worlds of Aitutaki and Harmony, both currently held by the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth.  Supported by the WarShips RS Lester Cameron-Jones, an Agamemnon-class Heavy Cruiser, and the RS Clipperton, a Regulus-class Frigate, the Second and Third Regulan Hussars Regiments assault Aitutaki finding only light defences there quickly conquering the world.

At the same time from Regulus the RS Kirc Cameron-Jones and the RS Regulus, two Agamemnon-class Heavy Cruisers, supported the Sixth Regulan Hussars and Avanti's Angels Mercenary command in an attack on Harmony.  At the Harmony Nadir point the two WarShips encountered the MSC Marik's Pride, a Zechetinu II-class Corvette, and the MSC Harbinger, a Venturer-class Light Cruiser, the RS Kirc Cameron-Jones and RS Regulus immediately turned to engage while the ground forces scattered and headed towards the planet.  In space the two Regulan ships proved to have too much firepower for the Marik-Stewart vessels as launched a full attack on the defenders working in tandem the two Agamemnon-class vessels caused heavy damage to the Marik's Pride rapidly they disabled the Corvette before putting marines aboard the ship overpowering the surviving crew.  The vessel's main drives and K-F core along with the majority of its weapons were damaged or destroyed in the battle leaving little of worth for the Regulans.  The MSC Harbinger proved to be far more of a handful however.  As the two Regulan craft disabled and captured the Marik's Pride the Harbinger had circled them causing heavy damage to the Kirc Cameron-Jones with its arrays of Heavy Naval Particle Cannons and Naval Lasers.  As the two Regulan WarShips turned their focus on the Venturer-class Light Cruiser the commander of the Harbinger took his ship directly between the two Regulan craft once again using its heavy energy weapon arrays to cause maximum damage while avoiding major damage in return, neither Regulan craft could take clear shots due to the Harbinger passing closely between them, once clear of the Regulan ships the Harbinger activated its K-F Drive and escaped the system before the RS Regulus could turn to give chase.  Following the battle the RS Kirc Cameron-Jones was abandoned in the Harmony system the Principality of Regulus not having the resources or the required Yardship to effect repairs on the ship.  Instead they have used tug-type DropShips to push the ship away from the Harmony system's star nearer Harmony II where they keep a constant visual on the WarShip hoping to recover it at some point.  On the ground the Regulans find the Third Marik-Stewart Guards Regiment which refuses several opportunities to surrender the world instead digging into their positions.  For nearly three weeks the Regulus forces and their mercenary support units tried, and ultimately failed, to dislodge the defenders.  On the 2nd November 3090 the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth diplomatic team on Regulus requested that the remains of the unit be allowed

Primary Landing Field
New Aega, Nova Cat's Den
Periphery
9th October 3090

As word had come from the negotiations on New Avalon a cease fire had been agreed between the Nova Cats and the SLDF on New Aega.  Both sides had agreed that salvage left from previous battles would be returned to their original owners salvage crews were given allotted times agreed on by both sides to enter the no mans land to recover equipment and the remains of fallen comrades.

As a Star Commander, bloodnamed or not, Sonja Rosse had been assigned command of one of these salvage teams which were made up of lower castemen, mainly expendable freeborns, on this occasion Sonja did not mind despite her bloodname she was still a freeborn warrior and this particular salvage mission gave her an opportunity to revisit the place where this battle had begun for her.

New Aega was not the most pleasant of worlds Clan Nova Cat had colonized it due to the resources they could mine here.  As a result as the Nova Cats picked through the wreckage of ruined Mechs and vehicles most wore at the least eye protection while many wore full face masks.  The air was perfectly breathable but the cold and the wind was uncomfortable even at the warmest times.  Moving across the ground Sonja moved passed a fallen Nova Cat Cougar OmniMech, the thirty-five ton Mech had been destroyed during the battle.  Uncommon within the Nova Cat Touman the techs had been instructed to strip it for parts and weapons and leave the rest it, and its warrior, had seen their last days serving the Clan.  Observing the Techs for several minutes she was happy with their progress and moved on through the battlefield she was near the point she had entered this battle she could see familiar rock formations as well as further wreckage.  The tech team nor the Nova Cat security teams had pushed through this area yet, technically there should be no danger in this area, there could be munitions that had not exploded when fired or troops that had been cut off from their units in the region.

From her left Sonja heard a low warning growl turning slowly she was stunned to see a female nova cat looking down at her.  She knew it was impossible there were no nova cats on New Aega there was no food source for the big cats to survive.  Looking at the animal which continued to growl at her but she didn't feel threatened, even if it were real, the animal's poisonous mane still was still down.  Only when nova cats felt threatened or were ready to strike that mane stood on end giving the cat its name.  “What is your problem girl?”  She asked quietly moving closer to the cat which continued to growl.  As she approached the nova cat turned disappearing behind a group of rocks Sonja followed slowly cautiously moving around the rocks there ahead was a male bull, like the nova cat it couldn't be here there was no grass to feed it, she knew it was symbolic of something although right now she didn't know what.  The nova cat walked around the bull growling much louder as the two animals sized each other up before the attack, quickly they were engaged the nova cat's mane standing on end immediately as it jumped into action attacking the bull.  The bigger powerful bull lowered its horns knocking the nova cat back before charging forwards at the cat on the defensive the nova cat jumped up onto its hind legs striking out at the bull knocking it back.

Both animals were a little battered by their encounter but they each seemed to have had enough.  Suddenly from no-where a star, a Cameron Star, fell from the sky breaking up the two animals.  Both paced around the star but it seemed to turn as they did blocking the path.  The nova cat pulled back as the star and bull faded to nothing, with no sign either had been there, Sonja moved forward seeing a piece of green armour only a few pieces long picking it up she felt the cold metal against her hand turning it slightly she saw a line of letters and numbers “NC132” there were more but they had been blown away when the armour had been severed from the unit it had once been attached to.  Sonja knew she could check the numbers but she also knew that this was an armour fragment from the Joust she had fought when she arrived.  Slipping it into her vineer bag she moved on following the nova cat again she found the animal with a pride of other nova cats.  The battle hardened nova cat was welcomed back into its pride accepted beside the most senior of the pride but something seemed wrong Sonja could see the nova cat was not right.  After not long with the pride the female nova cat walked away from the others as they faded away like the Cameron Star and the bull.  Sonja searched the area for clues to what she was seeing and why seeing the ground near where the pride had been she saw the distinctive foot prints of a Shadow Cat OmniMech she knew then that this was where she had arrived on New Aega bending down she scooped up a handful of earth placing it in her vineer bag, there were reasons for all of this she knew.  Looking around she saw the nova cat had not faded away like the others instead it had continued away far from where the pride had been fending for itself as darkness closed in all around it.  Sonja could see the animal taking body blow after blow she wanted to step in but knew that was not what was supposed to happen.  Instead the scene continued and the bull returned through the darkness for a moment Sonja expected the fight to resume however instead the bull led the nova cat through the darkness back towards Sonja.  The two animals looked to her acknowledging her presence before fading to nothing.

Sonja Rosse sunk to her knees aware that she had encountered a vision something she had never been blessed with before.  Visions were sacred to Nova Cats she knew this one was personal it was not something that would shape her entire Clan but something that she needed to understand and see through wherever it led her.

St Ives Compact Offensive
Third St Ives/Capellan Confederation War
Indicass, Capellan Confederation
11th October 3090

In an effort to show that the St Ives Compact was not a spent force the Third St Ives Lancers and the Third St Ives Janissaries Regiments launch an attack on Indicass engaging the Fifth Capellan Armoured Cavalry the two St Ives units force the Capellan unit into retreat liberating the occupied world.  On Indicass they find the St Ives government officials and law enforcement officers have all been arrested and imprisoned indicating the treatment received by other St Ives officials on occupied worlds.

Flag Office, FSS Alexander Davion
SLDF Task Force, Unnamed system
Crucis March, Federated Suns
16th October 3090

Along with the SLS Mopelia Island, the Eighty-Third Special Operations Battalion and the First Royal Black Watch Regimental Brigade the AFFS High Command had insisted that a Reinforced Battalion of the First Davion Guards RCT and the FSS Alexander Davion, a Davion III-class Destroyer, accompany the First Prince on his planned strike on the Taurian's Omega Six unit.

As First Lord of the Star League Defence Force Victor Steiner-Davion had named both the First Davion Guards troopers, the Alexander Davion and her crew as SLDF Allied forces for the duration of this mission each member of the AFFS involved had been asked to take the oath of the Star League Defence Force and would be eligible for continued SLDF service after the conflict.  Should the Taurian's discover their presence among the the SLDF task force he could 'simply' show them the paperwork and hopefully quickly brush it under the carpet, although he knew that neither the SLDF's deep strike within the Taurian Concordat or the AFFS presence among them would go down well once this mission was made public.  Victor had weighed up the pros and cons of these actions and no action, the facts were simple, go ahead with this strike possibly cause a diplomatic incident which he could hopefully navigate his way through or face an all out war with the Nova Cats which neither his Federated Suns Outback worlds or the SLDF were prepared for.

Looking over the SLIC and DMI reports the evidence was clear someone within the Taurian Government had been supporting Omega Six.  He didn't believe that Protector Martens-Calderon was capable of, or foolish enough, to make such a decision which meant that someone within on Taurus was pulling strings without his knowledge.  Before he had left New Avalon he had ordered the heads of the DMI and MIIO to make sure that Federated Suns worlds along the Taurian border were fully briefed on the possibility of a Taurian counter-attack aimed at the Federated Suns because of these actions.  He'd also ordered the AFFS Admiralty to move some additional capital assets into the area.  As a result the FSS Sarah Davion had been moved from Defiance to June joining the FSS Andrew Redburn which was already stationed along the Taurian border.  The FSS Zibler and FSS Crucis March would also be directed to the area but they were at least three weeks away from being on station.  Victor's task force would leave the Federated Suns by the end of the month then passing through abandoned or uninhabited systems they would travel through the Taurian Concordat meeting up with a Nova Cat force on the way plenty opportunity for the Taurians to discover them, plenty opportunity for someone to over-react and all of this blow up in his face.

The door chime went taking him from his thoughts looking up Victor called for the door to open stepping through the door was General Katya Christifori.  She was a striking woman Victor had to admit Archer Christifori was a lucky man, although Victor was very happy with Danai and thanked every star shining down on him for his life with her he could still appreciate beauty, Katya was more than a pretty face.  “Sir, can I have a moment?”  She asked remaining near the door.

“Of course, save me from this paper work?”  He joked as she entered the door closing behind her.  In her hand he noticed a folded piece of paper, he wondered if that was for him but decided not to push for it, if she wished to give it to him he would wait for that moment.

“Sire” she said more formally stepping forward nervously.

“Take a seat Katya” he ordered her trying to make her feel more at ease.

“Sire, this is strange for me.  Please know first that before we left New Avalon I forwarded this message” she said raising the piece of paper slowly “to Commanding-Admiral David Natale, as is the correct SLDF procedure in such matters, however at this present moment you are my senior officer and have a right to know.”

“Of course, I am sure you have done what is correct.”  Victor said wondering where this was going.

“Sir” she said again holding out the piece of paper “I would like to inform you that once this mission is complete I will be tendering my resignation from the Star League Defence Force.  I will of course continue to complete all my duties to my best ability until then.”  She said as Victor accepted the noted unfolding it slowly.  It said almost exactly what she had just said.

“Would you like to discuss your reasons General?”  He asked she was nowhere near past her prime Victor guessed she was in her fifties by now but given modern medicine she was as fit as someone ten to fifteen years her junior.  Routinely people served into their late seventies and often beyond.

“I think I've given enough” Katya said bluntly.  She was right of course she had served beyond the minimum for any Star League Defence Force officer even given her position she was not irreplaceable.  “I think my family has given enough.  First it was Archer with the First Brigade, then it was the First Division, then we were both in positions that needed attention” she said moving on he could see the frustration and possibly a little anger in her as she described the life she had lived.  “And now Archer has retired but I'm still gallivanting across the Inner Sphere and beyond for duty.  Well I've had enough I want to live a life enjoy having a husband and a home before things end, you understand that?”  She asked he could see the pleading in her eyes.

“Yes, I do General, I most definitely do “this is not the easiest of lives.”  He admitted “I remember Morgan Hasek-Davion saying something very similar to what you just said once” just before Task Force Serpent had left Morgan had longed for a more settled life.  The end of the Clan War had brought that for him but duties as the reborn Star League's first Commanding-General had brought him back to travel rapidly.  Victor had seen the strain on Archer Christifori as well as time had gone on, the job of Commanding-General was not the easiest always pulled or pushed in one direction or another he guessed being Head of Intelligence was probably just the same.  He couldn't hold her and didn't plan to try, she had done her duty to the Star League and the Lyran Commonwealth before it she deserved time to do her duty to herself.  “I accept your resignation General, I am quite glad you came infact.”  He said smiling slightly “when we reach the Taurian Concordat the Eighty-Third Special Operations Battalion will be breaking off from us and heading to Althea's Choice.  They need to make a good show of searching that world for further involvement of the Taurians in the attack on the First Royal ComGuard Brigade.”  He explained she nodded she knew the plan, she had helped write it, “I wish for you to command that group.”

“Sir, I plan to do my duty to its full until the end of my service” she protested.

“I am aware” he said raising his hand “and I believe that the Eighty-Third could quite happily put on a good show on Althea's Choice without you.  However I want every Taurian in the area focused on Althea's Choice wondering what is going on.  Having the Head of the Star League Intelligence Corps direction efforts should provide plenty of distraction allowing for our force to slip passed, at least I hope so.”

“You'd like me to knock on some doors that the Taurians don't want touched?”

“Diplomatically” Victor said carefully “your presence there General will be the perfect faint to our hammer and allow us to slip passed unseen.”

“I'm sure the Taurians have some customs violations that need explored for suspected links.  Or perhaps they are missing some of the correct paperwork.”  Katya suggested seeing where he was directing having the Taurians scrambling to cover themselves should keep their eyes away from the stars above and hopefully away from the main SLDF force.

“Thank you General for accepting this duty and for your long term of service” Victor said raising to his feet extending his hand.  Katya accepted and shook his hand then came to a full parade stance as she saluted in classic Star League style.  Victor returned the salute and then nodded to her allowing her to leave which she did crisply and without another word.  Having her leave the SLDF was a loss but an understandable one.  One of these days Victor wondered if he would be the one exiting in such a fashion or if he would leave in a more 'classic' style of the office of First Prince.  He knew for a fact that if he did leaving in a 'classic' fashion Danai would kill him but if that were the case he couldn't really balm her.

Capellan Confederation offensive
Magistracy of Canopus
Periphery
28th October 3090

Beating aside defences at Vakarel, Gouderak and Umka the Capellan Confederation makes a direct assault on Canopus supported by three WarShips the Death Commandos and the Warrior Houses Hiritsu and Dai Da Chi.  Chancellor Dao-Shen Liao had ordered the Magistracy brought under the Confederation's heel no matter the cost.  Unfortunately for the Capellans the Magistracy was ready for the Confederation's reaction as the CCSS Chancellor's Pride, a Thera-class Carrier, and the CCSS Aphrodite, an Impavido-class Destroyer, jumped into the system the MCS Canopus, a Feng Huang 2-class Cruiser manufactured by the Capellan Confederation launched fighters to oppose them.  At the same time five Vengeance DC-class Pocket WarShips detached from nearby JumpShips showing Canopus hardly lacked defences.

As the two WarShips and their fighters tried eliminate the Canopian defenders the Capellan ground forces tried to reach Canopus only to find three further Vengence DC Pocket WarShips raising from the ground.  Despite having three Lung Wang P2-class Pocket WarShips with them the Capellan onsite commander did not believe they could land on Canopus without heavy, to extreme, casualties.  Instead the Capellan ground forces turned around and forced their way back to the jump point.

Seeing the Capellans were in retreat the MCS Canopus and the remaining two Vengence DCs fell back allowing the invaders a clear escape.  Instead of retreating completely the Capellan forces retreated only as far as Vakarel and Gouderak completing the conquest of these worlds.

With the Capellans distracted the St Ives Compact attempted to retake Denbar however a strong Capellan defence caused severe damage to the Roman's Mounted Fusiliers Regiment.  The St Ives Compact unit held the Capellan Confederation forces up but they mostly searched Denbar for survivors of the First St Ives Lancers which were last seen fighting on the world along with Duchess Melissa Allard-Liao.  After five days on the world the remaining Battalion of Roman's Mounted Fusiliers retreated with Melissa Allard-Liao still missing.

Interesting update. I wonder if the remains of the Star League's Huntress Garrison will ever make it back to the Star League. Probably wishful thinking.

Keep up the amazing work Dragon Cat!

I'm not at home so I can't link the answer to this one.  But if you look at replies 596 and 597 of this thread you will begin to find the answer.  What remained of the SLDF Garrison of Huntress was the 71st Eridani Light Horse.  They lost a trial against Clan Goliath Scorpion and were ultimately part of the force that tried to take New Port Royal from Clan Nova Cat.  Of the now named Eridani Lancers I'd suspect less than a Battalion are of the original unit.

Losing the RS Kirc Cameron-Jones will really hurt Regulus.
Now who is going to salvage it. St Ives has a Newgrange. :D ;D O0

Oriente Protectorate Raid-in-Force
Former Free Worlds League
3rd November 3090

With the Capellan Confederation's focus on the St Ives Compact and the Magistracy of Canopus the Oriente Protectorate take advantage of the situation launching a raid in force on the worlds of Deschanes, Kanata, Ryerson and Xantha III.  Only on Ryerson do they encounter serious resistance from Laurel's Legion Regiment.  The First Fusiliers of Oriente Brigade conducted a hover-drop on-top of the Capellan's main base of operations unfortunately Laurel's Legion were not within their barracks.  While this did give the First Fusiliers a ready to use base of operations it also meant that Laurel's Legion could launch retaliation strikes.  For three weeks the Legion continued to attack the First Fusiliers however without support eventually the troops had no option other than surrender into Oriente custody securing the system for the Oriente Protectorate.

Draconis Combine Assaults
Shimosuwa, Rasalhague Dominion
15th November 3090

Following the successful liberation of the world of Gram from the Rasalhague Dominion and the destruction of Clan Ghost Bear's Twelfth Bear Chevaliers Cluster all Rasalhague Dominion units were on their highest alert level.  When the DCS Draconis Rift jumped into the system the 332nd Assault Cluster stood on full alert the Kyushu-class Frigate deployed four Nekohono'o-class DropShips.  None of the four DropShips carried Mechs however the Draconis Rift was able to carry an entire Regiment in her cargo hold.  For seven days the Ghost Bears prepared for the Draconis Combine WarShip and her deadly cargo when the Draconis Rift finally did arrive the defenders were surprised as swarms of aerospace fighters dived into the atmosphere.  It had been well known that the Draconis Combine had made some of their Kyushu-class Frigates into carriers but the defenders hadn't expected a WarShip with four assault DropShips to deploy aerospace fighters instead of BattleMechs from its bay.

The 332nd Assault Cluster's own Aerospace Trinary raised to engage the attacking Draconis Combine troops finding that each followed a very similar design, almost as if they were the same base machine, each was small no more than thirty-five tons in weight the fast lightweight craft were full of surprises as the first volley from the Combine craft included nearly twenty Arrow IV Missiles modified for use in air-to-air engagements.  Immediately half of the Ghost Bear fighters were destroyed the Ghost Bear counter-attack claimed nearly thirty Combine fighters as nearly a third of the Draconis Combine craft fell from the sky.

As the remaining Ghost Bears returned to refuel and rearm the remaining Combine craft returned to the Frigate while several Small Craft took advantage of the Ghost Bear's lack of air cover and dived through the atmosphere depositing several squads of Battle Armour troopers.  Detected by the planetary sensors the Ghost Bears remaining four Clusters of ground troops began searching the jungles of Shimosuwa while the remaining Aerospace Star prepare to defend against a second round of aerospace fighter attacks.

Instead however the Combine troops had a completely different surprise for the Ghost Bears far from losing a third of their number in the initial attack an entire company of Stinger LAM Mechs walked from the woods around the Ghost Bear landing strip.  Firing inferno missiles the remaining star of Ghost Bear OmniFighters were burned before one could get off the ground.  At the same time the Ghost Bears hunting the Combine Battle Armour found themselves the target of near continuous Arrow IV missiles armed with Inferno fuel.  As the ground forces took more and more damage the remaining aerospace fighters converted into more BattleMechs adding their firepower to that of the Battle Armour troopers and original group of Stinger LAMs.

Within six hours the remains of the Ghost Bear's 332nd Assault Cluster surrendered to the Draconis Combine troops and with them they surrendered the world of Shimosuwa.  Finally with hostilities to an end the liberating regiment was named as the newly formed First Yokosuma Special Naval Landing Force (SNLF), named for a unit from Ancient Japan on Terra, permanently based on board the DCS Draconis Rift the unit has shown the utility of LAM units and given the Draconis Combine a whole new idea for their Kyushu-class vessels.

Grand Melee, Philip Drummond City
New Barcella, Nova Cat's Den
22nd November 3090

Following her vision on New Aega Star Commander Sonja Rosse traveled back to New Barcella, in some ways she felt that she spent most of her life traveling between the stars.  On New Barcella Oathmaster Zane Carns confirmed to the rest of the Clan that Sonja had, in his opinion, experienced a vision.  With the Oathmaster's confirmation Sonja's vision placed her on the path towards power within the Nova Cat Clan.  Despite her birth, or her actions to date, a warrior that was blessed with visions was destined for greatness within a Clan so wrapped up in its mystic trappings.  With Zane's support Sonja was sponsored to the Oathmaster's Grand Melee.

The Grand-Melee was a yearly challenge within Clan Nova Cat to choose the next Oathmaster.  Only the best warriors, those who knew the Remembrance like it was their own memory and those who were blessed with visions entered.  Most years the Oathmaster defended their position, only once had an Oathmaster voluntarily stepped aside leaving an undefended position, this year was no different from tradition Zane Carns looked set to defend his position defeating all in battle and in the knowledge tests set down by the Clan Council.  Sonja Rosse had struggled in both the physical tests and some of the knowledge tests however many could see her raw potential and few were surprised to see her in the final round against Zane Carns.

After holding the post for twenty-seven years Zane knew that his visions were not as strong, not as accurate as they had previously been, he had been lucky to have a Khan who had such strong visions that his were not required as often.  In Sonja he saw someone with the youthful spirit that Clan Nova Cat needed in a loss that many would question in the future Zane Carns' term as Oathmaster ended and the new rein of Sonja Rosse began.  Due to her lack of combat experience Sonja was named as newly named Galaxy Commander Zane Carn's aide within Alpha Galaxy.  Many within the Clan are glad to see that Zane's influence would still be strong with the office of Oathmaster while Sonja is glad to have Zane's insights close at hand.

Nice turn of events, I like your idea of use of Kyushu-class Frigate's ability to carry all those Mechs.  Using LAMs is great idea, wish it were canon feasible.   Given there only one Kyushu-class left....nevermind extinct LAMs...

I have 5 active Kyushu   O0 Unfortunately the Draconis Combine has pretty much thrown ever LAM it has in active service, and every one it has been able to buy from LexaTech and Gilmour MilTech to form this unit.  With the losses taken in this Battle the First Yokosuma SNLF are about 60% so they won't be much use for a small while, and since the First Yokosuma needs rebuilt a second will be further delayed.  But the concept is there.

The end of 3090 - attached I have the most up to date WarShip list for the end of 3090.  If anyone would like an up to date map for the end of 3090 it is also available just send me a PM.

SLDF/Nova Cat Joint assault
Davetal III, Taurian Concordat
1st December 3090

The Davetal system was a rare one in human occupied space with two habitable worlds orbiting a single star.  The binary planets of the system Davetal II and Davetal III were smaller than most habitable worlds but both were completely habitable and orbited a common barycentre.  Both planets orbited around each other over approximately a month and were separated by around one million kilometres.

Clan Nova Cat's Bug Eye-class Surveillance Craft Storm had jumped into the outer edge of the system beyond the planet's two gas giants and its asteroid belt.  Burning slowly in system the craft had found that most traffic moved around the two planets and between the two main jump points above and below the system's star, none of this was unusual however the common orbit Davetal II and Davetal III did open some interesting challenges and opportunities.  Identifying three “pirate” points in the system the Storm transmitted its findings to the main assault force.

Two days after the Storm had entered the system the FSS Alexander Davion and the SLS Mopelia Island led the first group of JumpShips in at one of the pirate points not far from Davetal IV while the Nova Cat vessels Path of Honour and Principle, two Aegis-class Heavy Cruisers, emerged from another pirate point escorting Upsilon Galaxy on board several Nova Cat JumpShips near Davetal I.  Neither the FSS Alexander Davion or SLS Mopelia Island faced serious opposition at their entry point, the Nova Cat vessels were not so lucky.  Jumping in the Nova Cat's Path of Honour along with its four attached DropShips and their cargo the Second Nova Cat Titans Cluster became the Nova Cat's first casualties as the Heavy Cruiser struck a nuclear armed space mine that had been missed by the Storm.  Immediately attacked by aerospace fighters from a hidden base on Davetal I the 274th Battle Cluster became the Nova Cat's next casualties as their DropShips were cut apart before they could leave their JumpShips.

Angered by these losses the Principle avenged its fallen sister ship firstly by wiping out the Taurian aerospace assets with its massed Naval Autocannons and then by bombarding Davetal I until no life signs were detected at the aerospace fighter's launch site.  Fortunately Davetal I was too small and too warm to host a native civilian population limiting the casualties to military ones.  However the Principle's assault showed exactly what the Inner Sphere had feared ever since the return of the WarShip fleets.  In some ways the Smoke Jaguar attack on the world of Turtle Bay, with the complete destruction of the City of Edo, had shown the Inner Sphere what none of them wished more worlds turned to cinder like those that had fallen during the First and Second Succession Wars.

Witnessing these attacks from long range the FSS Alexander Davion and SLS Mopelia Island moved within range of Davetal II and Davetal III the binary planets were at the mercy of the invaders lacking any sort of Capital ship.  Arriving first SLDF instantly gained aerospace superiority over both worlds.  On the 8th December 3090 the Principle escorting the remains of the Nova Cat Upsilon Galaxy and saKhan Michael Drummond's own command cluster arrived at Davetal III.  “Hail them” First Lord Victor Steiner-Davion ordered from the command bridge of the FSS Alexander Davion.  “This is First Lord Victor Steiner-Davion to Nova Cat force, I request you follow the agreed plan of attack?”  He said after seeing the destruction of the Path of Honour and the Nova Cat response against Davetal I's rocky surface he was unsure exactly what the Clansmen had planned.

“These dezgra used nuclear weapons against us!”  The voice replied “I saKhan Michael Drummond vow that these Taurians will pay with their blood, there will be no batchall.”

“Neg, there will not be” Victor replied agreeing they would not cut down their forces against the Taurian's rogue unit, no honourable battle.  “However, I will not allow you to use capital weapons against the population of this system they are not all to blame for these problems, Quiaff?”  He pointed out using the Clan interrogative to make sure the Clan saKhan knew he wanted an answer there were several moments of silence before the Nova Cat answer came through.

“Aff” the Nova Cat admitted after a few moments “we will follow the plan.”  saKhan Michael Drummond replied “we have detected Taurian military transmissions on both planets.  I suggest that your forces land on Davetal II and we shall take Davetal III?”

“Agreed” Victor said “with one modification I request that the Principle provide naval protection and aerospace fighter support for my forces this is a joint operation and I think we would benefit from the Principle's experience should we need naval support.  The SLS Mopelia Island will be made available to Clan Nova Cat's assault forces while the Alexander Davion will provide support for both forces should it be needed.”  He suggested the last thing he wanted to see was the Nova Cat's Principle engaging ground targets again, he knew the Mopelia Island and Alexander Davion would only fire on a planet after being given a direct order, the Nova Cat Heavy Cruiser was an unknown.

“I agree to your request First Prince Davion” Michael Drummond replied using Victor's Federated Suns title instead of his SLDF position clearly showing that he respected Victor for the relationship that the Nova Cats and Federated Suns shared not because of the Star League Defence Force.

Soon after SLDF and Nova Cat forces were descending on their allocated targets as they did the defenders moved to oppose them.  The SLDF landed together in one solid mass the First Royal Black Watch BattleMech Regiment fronting three full Armour Regiments and an entire Battle Armour Regiment.  Leading from the front piloting his Dire Wolf OmniMech, Prometheus, First Lord Victor Steiner-Davion led the attack on the two Battalions of BattleMechs supported by several conventional vehicle and infantry units. Within the Taurian Concordat forces the SLDF troops fought against several companies worth of Hipparch Cavalry Tanks and Ignis Infantry Tanks not seen in combat since the fall of the Rim Worlds Republic.  These units designed to hunt down conventional infantry forces struggle to fight off the First Royal Black Watch's exclusively equipped Battle Armour Troopers. The Mech force was something completely different however instead of periphery relics each of the two Battalions of BattleMechs were of a Clan design painted in one of the Clan's favoured camouflage.  Because of the frequency and firepower of the Clan designs the First Royal Black Watch, and its purely Inner Sphere technology base, took heavy attacks overcoming the Taurians as they fell back deeper and deeper within a fortified encampment.

Unfortunately for the Taurians several things counted against them, firstly the SLDF outnumbered them in BattleMechs two-to-one, they had five or six times as many armoured vehicles and complete aerospace superiority.  With the Principle hanging overhead the Taurians had nowhere to run instead of surrendering the periphery troops fought to the last taking many of the Black Watch with them but in the end they had no real chance.

On Davetal III the battle was just as tough the Veteran Nova Cat troopers led by their Clan's saKhan had followed a different approach than that of the SLDF.  While the SLDF hit like a sledgehammer the Nova Cats broke into their individual Clusters striking at the Taurian troops at the helm of his Blood Asp OmniMech Star Colonel Grayson once again headed the 450th Assault Cluster.  Although his unit was part of the Nova Cat's Alpha Galaxy the Khan had sent them along with Upsilon Galaxy to give Grayson a command for this battle Michael Drummond had given them a support role in the battle.  Grayson knew that the Nova Cat saKhan not only did not like freeborn warriors but he did not like the fact that Grayson had been the one to uncover the truth about the attack on the First ComGuard Regimental Brigade.  On New Aega Michael Drummond had his own “playground” where he could send and lead Nova Cats into battle against the SLDF troops present he had intentionally kept them bottled up within the trading post on that world to give the Nova Cats live fire targets.  Grayson had also been informed by his father, via a Watch Operative imbedded in Upsilon Galaxy, that Michael Drummond had intentionally allowed Nova Cat ammunition and supplies to be captured by the SLDF troops on New Aega allowing them to continue to fight.  The Watch Operative did not have information for Grayson on why Khan Canin Rosse had allowed the fighting to go on as long as he had but he guessed his father must have had a valid reason.

Now on New Aega he could ignore the politics and forget the words spoken during negotiations with the Federated Suns now piloting his Blood Asp he could see the enemy he was against.  He could engage and destroy him and end the threat instead of dancing around the answers.  Moving over the rocky terrain of Davetal III Grayson searched for Omega Six targets ever since they had landed the Nova Cats had pushed the Taurian defenders.  So far both sides had taken a lot of damage but the Nova Cats were winning the battle through the air a Deimos Assault OmniMech flew through the air landing near his Blood Asp.  Grayson knew of only one of the eighty-five ton OmniMechs that were not possessed by Clan Snow Raven, glancing at his communication system he noticed the waiting call “Star Captain, welcome to the battle.”  He said activating the system.

“Star Colonel” Katrine Nova Cat said greeted him in return “is there a reason we, as the strongest unit assigned to this attack, are assigned to this position of the battle?”

“Aff, the saKhan has decided that this is where we should be.”  Grayson said the 450th Assault Cluster had been tasked by the saKhan moving along behind the Nova Cat lines.  So far they had struck at several of the trailing Omega Six units but they had missed out on some of the heaviest, most honourable fighting.

“We should be at the front” Katrine said angrily “our Cluster should have been the first to engage.”

“There was no batchall” Grayson pointed out keeping his frustration under check he felt the same as her but wouldn't show it “the saKhan made this bid, he makes the decision on when we attack.”

“Surely you can smell them Star Colonel, we should be allowed to strike at them.”

“We will soon enough Katrine, let us take the high ground and prepare, the time will soon be here.”  He said launching his Blood Asp into the air on its jump jets, moments later Katrine's Deimos followed him onto the higher level.  Immediately they detected several Clan Mechs none painted in Nova Cat camouflage.  “It looks like you have gotten your wish.  450th Assault Cluster, break in attack.”  He ordered turning his Blood Asp's torso towards an enemy Mad Cat II BattleMech immediately opening fire with both the Blood Asp's torso mounted extended-range particle cannons.  One struck the Mad Cat II's torso staggering the Mech back slightly the other shot missed the assault Mech.  The Mad Cat II's counter attack was a pair of Gauss Rifle shots back due to the range, and no doubt the pilot's lack of skill, both shots missed Grayson's Mech.  The Nova Cat MechWarrior smiled knowing his force could not lose as he opened up on the Mad Cat with further particle cannon fire as he closed on the enemy Mech.  Across the Taurian line the Mechs opposing the Nova Cats faced not only Grayson and Katrine but now the entire 450th Assault Cluster as the eager Nova Cats turned on their enemies.  “Do not break Zellbrigen unless they do.”  Grayson ordered seeing more Mechs raising to engage the Taurians Grayson noticed one of the enemy Mechs was down already.  Another pair of Gauss Rifle shots flew passed Grayson's Blood Asp followed by a flight of LRMs that exploded all across the front of his Mech.

Glancing at the distance between the Mechs Grayson smiled as he triggered the Blood Asp's secondary torso weapons at the same time as the particle cannons.  Exiting the torso weapon mounts along with the particle cannon fire was a pair of plasma cannons some when, Clan Star Adder had first developed the weapons configuration, had commented on the Blood Asp had “Plasma PPCs” when both weapons were in range at the same time.  The Mad Cat II was hit by all four weapons at the same time as well as losing nearly two tons of armour the Mech had to deal with more heat build up than the assault Mech built-up on firing all its weapons.  The MechWarrior fought his BattleMech all the way as it lost its balance and tumbled to the ground Grayson felt no sympathy as he triggered the Blood Asp's Streak Short Range Missile system and quad arm mounted Heavy Medium Lasers.  The weapons fire tore into the downed assault Mech one of its shoulder mounted Long Range Missile Launchers exploded into a million to pieces adding to the MechWarrior's woes.  In an act of surrender the Mad Cat II pilot stopped trying to raise their Mech to its feet instead pointing its arms towards the ground and shutting the Mech down.  “Surrender accepted on the Mad Cat II, no-one shoot it.”  Grayson ordered over a general frequency ensuring that both sides could hear it, at least the MechWarrior that had surrendered would know they would not be target of any further attacks.  Moments later the Blood Asp staggered as a Heavy Large Laser struck the Mech's left side twisting the Mech at the torso Grayson sighted a twenty-five ton Solitaire the fast light Mech sped into sight looking like it carried its main weapon on its shoulder.

With his Blood Asp already running hot Grayson fired on the the light Mech with only the SRMs and one of the particle cannons adding in a plasma cannon in an attempt to slow the Mech.  While the Solitaire moved too quickly for the PPC and plasma blasts the SRMs tracked the Mech exploding all over the light Mechs's.  Because Grayson's weapons had missed a second Heavy Large Laser followed by two Heavy Medium Lasers ripping away another ton of armour from the OmniMech's leg as the Heavy Large Laser struck.  One of the Heavy Medium Lasers burned over the Blood Asp's torso burning away more armour somewhere the laser found a weak spot punching through the Blood Asp's torso shattering one of the OmniMech's Double Heat Sinks.

As coolant fluid leaked to the ground Grayson twisted his Mech's torso tracking the lighter Mech blasting at the Solitaire with his Blood Asp's Heavy Medium Lasers.  The silver beams burned over the Solitaire burning through the hip joint on the left leg severing the entire leg from the Mech's body.  The light Mech traveling at over one hundred kilometres per hour completely lost its balance as the leg fell away from its twenty-five ton body.  The Mech tumbled forwards slamming into the ground, the force of the impact and the speed the Mech was traveling at tore the Heavy Large Laser nestled on its shoulder completely off the Solitaire's body as the Mech flipped though the air.  As it rolled the Mech's cockpit was crushed by the force of the impact killing the warrior ending the Mech's fight permanently.  Twisting the Blood Asp's torso back in line Grayson saw that all the other Taurian Mechs in the area were down his communication system squeaked into life “Star Colonel, saKhan Drummond's Mech is down.  He is calling for immediate back-up at the front-line.”  One of his troopers reported the fact that Drummond was down but alive was only a good thing in Grayson's eyes.

“Then there is no time to waste” Grayson replied “450th move out.” He ordered the cluster eager for further combat didn't need told twice and quickly turned towards the thickest of the fighting.  By the end of the day the Nova Cats had completely secured Davetal III and called in the Watch to begin an investigation into where the Taurians had gained so much Clan technology from.  On Davetal II a similar investigation was beginning but this time by the Star League Intelligence Corps as the SLDF began its own investigations.

With the fighting over First Lord Victor Steiner-Davion informed the Nova Cats that he would be ready to turn the system over to Taurian authorities and escort the Nova Cats clear of Taurian space within two days, saKhan Michael Drummond however had other ideas, the Nova Cat saKhan informed the First Lord and Taurus, via HPG, that Davetal III had been won by Clan Nova Cat in combat and would be retained by Clan Nova Cat as one of its holdings.  The Taurian Protector Erik Martens-Calderon already angry that the SLDF and Nova Cats had operated within the Taurian Protectorate behind his back informed saKhan Drummond that the Nova Cats would face the full force of the Taurian Concordat should they remain and his people would use every weapon at their disposal if needed.  Drummond replied that should the Taurians be rash and deploy nuclear weapons against the Nova Cats again then Taurus would be forfeit and to back up this threat the WarShips Santin West, Clarkston and Tenacity all jumped into the system bringing with them the Nova Cat Rangers and Nova Cat Renegades Clusters of Kappa Provisional Galaxy and the Third Watch Cluster, the special operations unit of Clan Nova Cat's Watch Intelligence Operation, which had trained with the Federated Suns Rabid Fox units.

With the Nova Cats apparently there to stay the Taurian Protector requested a permanent SLDF presence in the system as well.  Naming Davetal II as an SLDF holding Protector Erik Martens-Calderon demanded that the SLDF appropriately defend the world.  Victor Steiner-Davion announced that the SLS Mopelia Island would be remaining in system while Nineteenth Cavalry Regiment and the Fourth Royal Pathfinders Battle Armour Battalion, both of the Eridani Light Horse Brigade, would be deployed to the world as a permanent garrison force.  While the Taurian Protector promises to support the SLDF forces as much as he can and he warns saKhan Drummond that Nova Cat forces can expect regular raids by the Taurians and should they be able he will order his military to recapture the world.

First Ceti Hussars RCT Basecamp
Eridanus Continent, Achernar
Draconis March, Federated Suns
22nd December 3090

Leftenant Fredrick Davion, son of First Prince Victor Steiner-Davion and Duke of Marlette, stood nerviously at the door of his commander's office.  This was his first unit position since leaving NAIS he'd spent nearly three months traveling to Achernar to meet with the First Ceti Hussars RCT.  He would be the first member of the Davion family to serve with a Ceti Hussars Regiment.  His twin sister Sarah Davion had chosen to join the Federated Suns government but he had chosen to follow his father into the AFFS.  “Come in” Vice Admiral Elias Briggs, the commander of the Ceti Hussars, called out from inside the office.  Fredrick stepped into the room unlike his father he was tall and had inherited the darker hair and skin-tone of his mother in his uniform he was the poster-boy of the AFFS, in fact if it were not for his name he may have been, his parents had both vetoed a High Command plan to use Fredrick for such a campaign.  Elias Briggs was a man in his late forties and had only recently taken command of the RCT “welcome to Achernar” Briggs said standing up.

   “Thank you sir”

“I hope your journey was not too hard?”

“Negative sir, Achernar isn't the easiest planet to get to but, I managed.”  He said the main jump point to the planet was over one hundred days away while the pirate point Fredrick had used had still taken eleven days to reach.  “An impressive sight above” he said quietly referring to the FSS Gold Lance, the RCT's Robinson Block III-class Transport, which had been permanently assigned to the unit.

“Yes indeed, the First Ceti Hussars have been lucky to gain the craft.  However we have not been the only ones so lucky to gain gifts?”  He said knowingly Fredrick had arrived with a very special BattleMech.

“I was one of six to gain the Mech sir, its an experimental Rifleman the RFL-X4, hopefully should the testing go to plan it will be the first of a new production class of Rifleman.  I have a General Motors Tech to cover the additional maintenance costs and additional ammunition for the main guns.”

“Two Hyper Assault Gauss (HAG) Rifles” Elias Briggs said quietly “very exotic technology to be placed in the hands of a newly graduated MechWarrior, Leftenant.”

“I was one of the highest placed officers of my year” Fredrick protested.

“I am aware.  I am also aware that you would not have received that Mech without your name.”

“I will differ in opinion with you, sir.”  Fredrick said respectfully standing fully to attention.

“Very good, Leftenant, understand me son I respect your father and I respect your family.”  Elias Briggs “I will respect you when you earn my trust.  Until then you are a new recruit in a flashy, unproven BattleMech.”

“Yes, sir” Fredrick replied curtly as he promised himself that he would prove his new CO wrong.

“Good, you will get your new lance assignment tomorrow morning, we defend San Marino Spaceport and the Achernar BattleMechs plant as immediate concerns in this system.  Luckily for us it takes so damned long to get to this planet most people don't bother.”

“I will familiarize myself with the planet sir.”

“A very good idea” he said extending his hand shaking Fredrick's “welcome to the First Ceti Hussars Leftenant” Elias Briggs said finally smiling.

“Thank you sir” Fredrick said he guessed that meant he had passed his new CO's welcoming test.  Now all he had to was prove that he, and his new Mech, deserved a place within the unit.

Command Bunker, Castle Masters
Gibson, Principality of Gibson
Former Free Worlds League
29th December 3090

In the darkened Command Bunker deep within Castle Masters staff worked at various consoles but the room was dominated by a single figure.  Standing over six foot tall the figure was dressed in a full red cloak and had what appeared to be a metal plate covering half of his bald skull.  A figure dressed in all white approached the figure carefully. “Sire” the man said removing his glasses carefully “I regret to inform you that our Master has succumb to the illness that struck him down.”  He said looking more at his removed glasses than the figure dressed in red.

“Did he say anything before he passed?”  The figure asked in a deep voice.

“He spoke the same words he has for the last three days Lord Apollyon.  He spoke of the need for a Third Transfer and an end to the corruption at the heart of everything.”

“A Third Transfer?” Apollyon asked quietly knowing what it was but wondering if the Doctor knew.

“Yes” the doctor said nervously “the first being the original Star League Defence Force's rise to power with the backing of the Terran Hegemony only to be broken by the corruption of those who wished to see it fail.  The second has been the steady rise of the Second Star League Defence Force which has failed spectacularly to protect the people of the Inner Sphere.  The Clans still exist, the Succession States fight their petty wars of aggression and the Star League does nothing.  A Third Transfer would protect not only Terra but all of humanity.  That is what our Master spoke of.”

“Well spoken Doctor.  We are the Manei Domini, We are the Hands of Our Master, We are the will of the Blessed Blake.  We will be the saviours of all humanity.  But first some blood will have to be spilled, can you live with that Doctor?”

“Someone always dies, our Master died, it is a part of nature.”  The doctor replied

“Good, we agree” he said turning to one of the staff within the bunker “send word to the Manei Atrocis they are to begin operations on receipt of this order.”  He ordered turning to another “send word to the Thirteen and to Obeedah and Taussen, inform them that we will need them all, and that the time for the Third Transfer begins now.”  He said turning away marching from the room “Our Master's and the Blessed Blake's Will!  Will be done, we will have vengeance for the Word of Blake!”

Hope you enjoy

Great update Dragon Cat! :D

I foresee a lot of turbulent years to come.

Note with the warships. In the Jade Falcon tab of the list, you have the Jade Claw and Ironhold Provider still in 3090. Jade Claw was destroyed and the Ironhold Provider was captured over Ironhold, where the Provider became thereafter the Mandrill Provider. That is the only thing I noticed that was off with your warship list. And only reason I caught that snafu was because I happened to be the one who wrote that specific battle.  :P

Keep up the great job! :D

Hey Dragon Cat, quick question:  Shadow Hawk LAMs?  Did you make new version of them so they're not flying bricks with no AirMech modes?  An Improved Screamer LAM with twin 5-ton bomb bays be cooler than the original SH LAM prototypes.  :P

Into 3091 my thanks to James Tanaga for the help with Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga

3091

Starliner One (Modified Sovetskii Soyuz-class Liner)
Thorin, Star League Protectorate
3rd January 3091

The Starliner One was ready to begin its second tour of the Inner Sphere.  Although it had begun at Terra the true journey had begun at Thorin there more than three thousand passengers and a disarmed civilian Conquistador-class DropShip known as the ConquistadaVasho.  The ship hailing from origins unknown was a late addition to the vessel's traveling complement and brought further pleasure options.

As it approached the jump point the Starliner One's maneuvering thrusters cut allowing the ship to drift the remainder of the way into the jump point.  As the vessel came to a stop not far from the SLS Covenant the crew began the main priming sequence of the K-F Drive, just as the ship began to jump something exploded near the rear of the ship, before the ship disappeared in a fiery light.

Analysis from the SLS Covenant's sensors indicated the explosion had been a minor one and the vessel had completed a jump but after three weeks searching fifty-two surrounding systems neither the SLDF, LCAF or FWL found any sight of the missing vessel.  Regardless of the vessel's fate Virgin Interstellar face multiple lawsuits from angry families who have lost people on board the vessel.  The company continues to publish reports from the Starliner Two project and continues to run cargo and civilian transports around the Star League Protectorate but the failure of the Starliner One effectively kills any ambition that Virgin Interstellar has as a pioneering space transport company.

Press Conference, Imperial Hospital
Imperial Palace, New Samarkand
Military District of Midway, Draconis Combine
10th January 3091

There was dozens of press reporters from across the Draconis Combine and beyond standing outside the Imperial Hospital in the Draconis Combine.  As the announcer stepped up to the podium there was a brief statement “ladies and gentlemen, please allow me to introduce Warlord Minoru Kurita.”  The man said stepping down after several moments as he disappeared Minoru Kurita appeared near the podium.  Before the Warlord could step up however the familiar crack of a M42B Federated-Boeing Rifle system filled the air cutting down several of Minoru Kurita's aides and the Draconis Combine support staff.  The lone gunman had attacked too soon to get the Warlord as his bodyguards dragged Minoru Kurita away but the would be assassin was not finished turning to his right firing several grenade launcher shots into a nearby Teppo Support Vehicle.  As the grenades slammed into the seventy-five ton vehicle, doing negligible damage, the assassin turned around firing another shot into an approaching Kage Battle Armour suit the explosive stopped the suit in its tracks but didn't down the approaching trooper.  Before the Kage could get near the assassin however a member of crew on-board the Teppo either panicked or decided that their enemy deserved a death worse than that the Kage could administer.  From one of the Teppo's turrets a pair of light machine guns roared to life these weapons, designed to damage BattleMech armour, tore the unarmoured man to pieces.

Although the ISF were able to recover parts of the man and DNA there was no known matches in the database only the incriminating Federated Suns made rifle system.  Several hours later Coordinator Vincent Kurita made the press announcement that Warlord Minoru Kurita had been intending to make, Vincent Kurita announces that his wife Duchess Tami Kurita has given birth for the second time to a healthy daughter which Vincent and Tami have named Emi.  When why Minoru had been making the early announcement and where the Warlord now was Vincent informs them that Minoru had been doing Vincent a favour earlier and that now he had left New Samarkand on urgent family business.

Wolf's Dragoon Hiring Hall
Harlech, Romulus,
Outreach, Star League Protectorate
14th January 3091

Outside the Wolf's Dragoons main hiring hall on Outreach three Barouche Military Transports open fire on the hiring hall's main building with long range missiles and machine guns causing severe superficial damage.  As a lance of Wolf's Dragoons Home Guard BattleMechs move in on the three vehicles all three set off detonation charges held in their cargo bays.  The explosives are enough to completely flatten the east and central wings of the building crushing hundreds including General Kelly Yukinov and Michi Noketsuna.   In the intern Colonel Sean Dorran, commander of Gamma Regiment, takes command of Outreach, the Wolf's Dragoons ground and naval forces and of the Seventh Kommando.  Sean Dorran names Major Stacy Church, commander of the Wolf Spider Company, as the intern Intelligence chief and tasks her to investigate the attack.

Faraday-Tanaga Territory
All Dawn, Rim Collection
Periphery
19th January 3091

Commander of the Fire Mandrill search Star Captain Peter Tanaga, Sibko Adjutant of Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga, kept his frustrations at bay, for it served no purpose to snap at a fellow clansman, even if he was a member of the Laborer Caste. Especially since the reason he and his fellow clansmen and women were here were not his fault.  No, he thought idly. I will rip the head off that Troop Master.  She foolishly led her sibko in a survival exercise into a damn hurricane! Oh, that bitch was going to pay for this, he thought with a feral look. Now, he had to find them, less the sibko of eighty-four ten-year old Warrior cadets die from their Troop Master’s incompetence.

While the rest of his Kindraa were either deep in the Faraday-Tanaga Compound, on board DropShips in orbit or helping to evacuate locals into their primary compound, where the genetic repository was being built, he and his volunteers were out in the middle of the hurricane to rescue the wayward cadets. Until their genetic repository was finished, what trueborn cadets and few freeborn allowed into their Warrior Caste were all they had for their future. That sentiment was shared with Cassandra Faraday and Jerold Danforth, the two leaders of Kindraa Faraday, who had ordered him to find the missing sibko.

The Anhur rocked hard to the left and right by the wind, kicking him out of his thoughts. “Pilot,” he spoke to the man piloting the craft. “What in Kerensky is happening!”

“Sit tight Star Captain,” the other man spoke over the radio, his voice tight.  Peter fought the urge to speak out at the man, he was a labourer by birth but now he flew Anhurs. Over the radio, he overheard the pilot tell the other aircraft pilots to continue the search and damn the consequences.  They may not be of the warrior caste, but when the future of our Kindraa is at stake, these members of the lower castes stepped up; They were going into hell and back with us to rescue these children that meant nothing to them, he thought with pride. When he asked for volunteers for this crazy stunt, they all stepped forward.

Oh, he knew very well as a Warrior, he could have simply ordered them to help with the search. And by clan law, they had to. That was not the Faraday-Tanaga within the Kindraa, when one asks for aid, the others answer regardless of caste, personal philosophies and of their friendship or hatred to the Clan way.

A sudden lurch to the right caused him to concentrate on what was happening “Star Captain, Sigma Five Sixteen found them. We are on our way now.”

“Aff,” he acknowledged the pilot. “Tell Cadet Natasha she is in command, not, repeat not, Troop Master Jennifer.” As the pilot acknowledged his order, he nodded his head to the two medics from the Scientists Caste and the lone warrior cadet sharing the back of the VTOL.

Not ten minutes later, the aircraft came upon the location of Sigma Fix Sixteen and the sibko. Already, three other Anhurs were on station, with more inbound to join them it was overkill for the task at hand but should there be casualties they would need all the help they could muster. Older cadets and the volunteers from the lower castes were already putting some of the younger cadets into Anhur Sigma Five Sixteen.

Once his aircraft landed, he led the other three out, over to where Cadet Natasha was with a younger cadet. Upon reaching her she immediately reported in “Star Captain, Troop Master Jennifer and nine cadets are still not accounted for. Cadet James, acting leader of the munchkins here, says since they landed he has had no contact with her, nor the sibko’s Patrol Eight, who were dropped down in this area.” The young woman, a teenaged girl really, pointed to a spot on a map. “This was the meeting point. Five munchkins have injuries, mostly light, a broken ankle and two broken legs from all the mud. One has a concussion though another appears to have some internal injuries. Suggest we evacuate them and continue our search Star Captain.”

He nodded, pride showing in his face. The girl and the younger boy seemed to have everything in hand. “Suggestion granted Cadet. Get them home. My aircraft and the last three will look for the last patrol and their Troop Master. Medics help with the cadets here.” He put a hand on the young girl’s shoulder then. “Good job Natasha.” And his other on Cadet James’s. “You as well Cadet James.”

Letting them go, he hurried over into his Anhur, and was in the sky in minutes, his shadow Cadet Leland with him. As they closed in on the drop point, the weather took a turn for the worse, as the VTOL shook violently every second.  “Star Captain, Sigma Five Twenty-two reports lightning strike and severe damage their Anhur's electrical systems. Point Commander Yu and his Salamanders have been dropped off and Sigma Five Twenty-two is heading back to base.”

“Aff,” he gruffly answered nature was still stronger than what man could build. Yu’s point was on a reconnaissance mission, scouting sites for future compounds when news of the missing sibko reached his point. Unlike the cadets, though, they were full warriors, and thus outside his command authority. But the fact they answered his call for aid, having to be picked up on the way, gave him a small smile.

Nearly an hour later, with no sign of the missing patrol, Loremaster Jacob Faraday chimed into Peter’s radio. “Peter Tanaga, bring home your boys and girls. We will look for them once the weather calms Quiaff?”

“Neg, Loremaster,” Peter replied angrily how could the Loremaster or anyone expect him to agree his mission was not over. “Albiev-Tanaga Sibko’s Patrol Eight is still out there, along with Troop Master Jennifer.”

“We know,” the voice of Cassandra Faraday, his Kindraa Leader, broke in his radio then surprising him he had not been aware Cassandra was in the loop. “You are ordered back to base, Peter, today's adventure is over. The second this damn storm passes, the entire touman will be out there looking for them.”

“I have your word, Cassy,” he spoke to the Kindraa Leader, using her old sibko name.

“Aff old man,” came her solemn reply.

He sighed then. “All units, this is Star Captain Peter Tanaga, return to base. I repeat return to base. We will be back in the morning.”  Just as his pilot confirmed the remaining two aircraft having responded to his orders, a different voice came in through his radio.

“This is Point Commander Yu. We have found them, repeat we have nine cadets, all are soaked, muddy and needing pickup. You won’t believe what these munchkins found. Over.”  Peter grimaced at the use of the contraction, yet didn’t call attention to it. There is a time and place for everything, and right now was definitely not the time, nor place for something as minimal as that.

Cassandra’s voice broke into the radio. “Good job Point Commander. Pickup is inbound on your location what is the find, over?”

“Some sort of buried factory. I dropped our beacon right on top of it.”

Within ten minutes, the three VTOLs made it to the location, just as heavy wind was violently shaking them. As soon as the doors to the bay were opened, nine cold, wet, and muddy young boys and girls piled in. “We have the cadets. Lift off now. Get us the hell out of this storm pilot.” Without bothering to listen to the pilot’s reply, for the aircraft was lifting off the ground already, he turned to the cadets. Already Leland had the nine stripping out of their muddy and soaked clothes.

Two days later after the storm had cleared Kindraa Leader Cassandra Faraday walked through the mud. Around her, members of her Kindraa were in the process of digging up a mostly buried factory. At the moment, Point Commander Yu, being the one who found the children, was in operational command over the warriors scouting the inside of the factory.

The sound of an Anhur grabbed her attention. Hurrying over, she found a muddy, soaked, bruised, and topless woman of MechWarrior stock limping off the aircraft between Peter Tanaga and Cadet Leland, her hands bound with rope. This was Troop Master Jennifer, the woman who abandoned the sibko who relied on her didn’t even bother to look up, obviously disgraced.

Peter answered her questioning glare at the woman. “Cadet Leland found her bathing in a river eight klicks south, cleaning a wound in her right thigh.” That answered the limp. “She reported she was knocked off balance by a strong gust of wind and went tumbling into the river, getting separated from Patrol Eight. Odd it contradicts all nine reports from Patrol Eight, quiaff?”

She wouldn’t bothering answering that. “Take this…filth…back to base. We will deal with her later.” Not even bothering to speak to the bound woman, she turned on her heel.

Roughly an hour later, Point Commander Yu reported to her. “It is a small factory, Kindraa Leader, built to produce Daedalus IndustrialMechs sometime prior to the Star League Civil War.  It appears that Stefan Amaris had the Star League Engineering Corps build it to support the construction of the Star League's periphery ally.”

“Daedalus IndustrialMechs, quiaff?”  The design, though ancient, would be quite the boon for both her Kindraa and the Rim Collection if they could start producing it.  Although it would be useless in combat it would help in construction and transport of supplies especially over broken terrain or through storms such as the one just encountered.

“Aff, we also found this.” Ever so gently, he handed her a small disk. At her questioning glance to him, he answered, “I looked through it it holds a cartography of what was once the Finmark Province of the Rim Worlds Republic. As well as information to a large BattleMech factory complex that had been recently finished on the capital world of that very province, Finmark.  It indicated that the factory had been completed and was ready to start production.  From the Rim Collection database Finmark no-longer appears on registered inhabited worlds.”

“We would still have records of that world within our own databases, Quiaff?” Cassandra asked Clan Fire Mandrill, and then her Kindraa, had maintained the Star League-era maps of the Inner Sphere and immediate periphery during their long exile ready for use when they returned to the Inner Sphere.  Although now they used them not as a place for searching for artifacts to benefit all the Clans but instead for survival.

Nova Cat Trade Post
New Aega, Nova Cat's Den
Periphery
22nd January 3091

There was a tense stand-off in the air as the SLDF and Taurian Concordat troops shifted into the DropShips, which had been released by the Nova Cats for the evacuation.  Although the Nova Cats had given the SLDF back their weapons and their DropShips the trade post which had been occupied by the First Royal ComGuard Regimental Brigade was now in Nova Cat hands.  Colonel Han Pegg senior member of the First RCG Brigade stood beside saKhan Michael Drummond watching as the SLDF troops filtered into the DropShips “several of the Taurian survivors have decided to join the SLDF following their time fighting alongside us.”  The asian man said glancing at the tall Nova Cat.

“You can decide the disposition of Taurian Concordat survivors after you have left Nova Cat space.  They will be leaving with you and good riddance to them.”  He said he had recently returned to New Aega from Davetal III to supervise the withdrawal of the SLDF forces Michael Drummond knew that while he had been sent back to New Aega Star Colonel Grayson had also returned to the Nova Cat's Den and was currently heading to, or back on, New Barcella.  It angered Michael Drummond that his Clan would soon welcome Grayson into the bloodnamed, the freebirth scum of their enlightened Khan.

“I understand that several Nova Cat warriors captured during the fighting have also said that they would like to join the SLDF.”

“They are your bondsmen Colonel, they do not have a choice, what you do with them is entirely up to you.  If you choose to leave them then they will maybe have a chance to rejoin our Touman.”

“But they may not?”  Pegg asked from what he had read the thirteen Nova Cats that were currently prisoners of the First RCG Brigade had fought very well.

“Neg, they will have to face Trials of Position like ever other Nova Cat wishing to prove themselves, they are older than the new recruits joining our ranks, competition will be high.  As I understand none have a bloodname so none will be too badly missed.”

“Then we will retain them” Pegg said vowing to make sure the 'prisoners' gained every chance they deserved to join the SLDF's ranks.

“That is your right as their bond-masters, Colonel, our people will miss your presence here.  It allowed us to be clansmen once more and to fight for what we wanted.”

“Against an enemy that could go nowhere, and was no threat to you, that hardly sounds honourable?”

“The greatest honour is in victory” the Nova Cat saKhan stated plainly “I wish you a safe trip.”  He said finally before walking off.

“Until the next time” Pegg said quietly watching the warrior walking off he was under the distinct impression that this was not the end of the troubles they would face with the Nova Cats.

SLS Shining Claw (Congress Block II-class Frigate)
Nadir Point, Byrant,
Star League Protectorate
28th January 3091

While charging its K-F Drive at the Nadir Point of the Byrant system a freak accident occurs on board the SLS Shining Claw as one of the Congress Block II-class Frigate's airlocks explosively decompresses venting two decks into space killing eighteen members of the crew.  Among those killed is Commanding-Admiral David Natale who had been moving between decks at the time of the explosion.

The SLS Shining Claw remains on station in the Bryant system until an SLIC investigation team arrived to investigate what had happened on board the vessel.  Until this is concluded the Star League Defence Force Council is placed in charge of the SLDF Divisions and WarShip units.  By March 20th the SLIC team conclude that the explosion on-board the SLS Shining Claw was in fact an act of assassination against the Commanding Admiral and an attack on the Star League Defence Force.
