Title: What's better: Zech or a Zech 2?
Post by: truetanker on 02 February 2020, 11:42:40
Long story...

I'm in command of a 3060 WoB unit and need a corvette warship. My OpFor is running with a Jade Wolf Fredasa and we both have up to thirteen droppers each.

Their running with a Star, so I'm running a Level II.

Any help in deciding which would be better choice?

Zech II. The flexibility brought by the middle tubes is amazing.

I'm running two Tramps, a ERLL equipped Invader, a captured Chimeisho and a  Quetzalcoatl.

Should give me a nice force... we're attacking same planet for resources. Planet has a battalion of each 3025 tech... we included a GD Scout and Standard IS BA.

They arrived and are contesting my advancements...

Zech II. Use the threat of the guns to keep Five Thrust at Freddie's from going berserk on your DropShips, and use your missiles to conduct long-range bombardments of his DropShip formations. Aim for smaller ships if you can, better odds of getting kills. Cost him a Star here and a Star there, pretty soon his force is bleeding mechs and can't match you on the ground.

Keep pickets in space, at long range. The more warning you have when he tries a high speed run with the Fred, the better.

I'm going to try that and do some long-range missile fire their fighters with my Cuda launchers as well. Less airsupport the better for me. Am thinking of losing a collar or two for Achilles or a Pentagon...

Thoughts?

They both have their uses, as naval lasers are handy for orbital bombardment, or for deep raids.

They both have their uses, as naval lasers are handy for orbital bombardment, or for deep raids.

It's worth mentioning that while naval lasers are better for sustained bombardment (since they don't run out of ammo), naval missiles are better for precision work, since they get a bonus when used in orbital bombardment. So the Zec II is probably the superior close support platform.

I'm more worried about making it there in one piece. Having only thirteen dropships to start with and no reinforcements. AND having to brush aside any clansmen AND Dirtball II's defenders.

Hopefully by next weekend, we'll have a game. Still debating if I should bring a Pentagon and/or some other Assault Dropper.

Just remember these two things:

1: You'll be safe at extreme range. Long range is danger close. Medium range is you're dead. Short range doesn't exist.

2: The range of a NAC-40 is limited to Medium. The range of a capital missile is limited ONLY by your ability to guess the movement of your opponent's formation.

Fight accordingly.

Do we ever get a combat reload time for missiles from the cargo bays into the ammo bins?

I do not remember how deep the bins are, but I would imagine if you expect a sustained engagement you start shuffling ammo out of cargo and into the magazine.  Especially if you go for some really long distance shots with bearings-only and that sort of thing.

Yes, though I do not remember the times offhand. It's in TacOps or StratOps. I think the gist was that if you start reloading a ten-round magazine at the beginning of a game, you'll likely get eleven sustained rounds, with fire after that being understandably intermittent.

Ok, I was wondering since I think the turn length for AT is supposed to be different?  To be honest, its one of the nice things about MM is that you can fight the space battles on a very large map area to make use of some of the more complicated tactical options.

TacOps has combat reloading rules, including large aerospace units.  StratOps has cargo movement, in minutes.  I could swear there was an example of moving a Kraken round in a Nekohono'o, but it's eluding me.

You playing WoB, right? This before or after the Jihad starts? Because if it's after you should probably be packing nukes.

Except Alamos are not available yet... it's a 3060 fight for resources... I don't want to use any Oppies or Xeno-troops to clean up said supplies, even though I have a Level II of them for completeness. ( 1× Oppie, 2X Heavy APCs and 3 Xeno-troops )

We agreed on a typical raiding where anything could be used... even splitting the defender to use against each others forces if they happen to fight, ala 3 way.
