Glad to hear of another potential convert to our little cult.
More advice:
- Low tech, with higher numbers of units usually beat out smaller, more advanced forces (in the vanilla game with no extra rules involved)
- The Thunderbolt 5S is a great measuring stick for what makes a good unit
- Extra specials often mean extra points. Try not to pay for Specials you won't use.
- Smaller (300-400 PV) games are often a good "small" game size, while bigger (5-600 PV) are a good "bigger" game size. I highly recommend getting core mechanics down before trying 'optional rules
- Objectives make the game much more interesting after you have a handle on the core rules.
- Finally, aero and arty are now (thanks to Commander's Edition) easy to implement and add new dimensions to your games.
