Marlin II Attack Submarine
« on: 17 July 2019, 10:40:20 »
The mkII Marlin Attack Submarine is a high speed underwater interceptor.  Based on the popular Marlin MKI  the MKII is slimmed down from 40Tons to 30Tons and up-engined with a powerful Xtra Light fusion powerplant to substantially improve it's movement profile.  The MKII has all the payload that the old MKI carried and only costs around 20% more - the only real loss is the armour which has been reduced in thickness by half to facilitate the weight loss.  Still, this stealthy, speedy beast should strike fear in any bluewater adversary

While these were designed to hunt the large, fast Akula missile subs I'm sure they will be of interest to anyone with an interest in Bluewater superiority

So much hate for the Akula! Lol! I'll take that as a compliment. And yes these little nuggets would eventually be a problem for an Akula. Nice.

Someone put out a design request for an Akula Hunter - just going where the c-bills are ;)

Yup, might as well let the water do the work for you.  The big boats go down laughably easy to breach rolls to the point where armouring a sub is almost pointless.  Landing a dozen hits from an LRT-5 should all but guarantee a couple of hull breaches and even the biggest boats can only handle a few with each one crippling some capabilities.  I might not send a Marlin 1 on 1 against an Akula as it may just plain run out of ammo but 3 Marlins should be sufficient and a full dozen will sink it in pretty short order.
