Oh yeah, I remember those guys.  For some reason, they always scream in terror and run away whenever I walk into a room.  Never understood that.  :P

And no, not Groo (or Thrud, or Hrun, or any other of his brethren) - it's Grue.

You shouldn't keep the mod only sections pitch dark.  Don't want you guys getting eaten on the way to the closet that holds the modchetes and banhammers.

No worries. I've plugged Mjödnir into a wall socket to light almost the whole area. And even beyond that, the most distant corners need no external lighting, as the posts themselves give off their own disturbing and unholy glow. #P

Take some advice from someone who's been into the Locker and returned: If you do find yourself in there somehow, treat the whole thing like the Ark of the Covenant. Gaze in wonder at the shipping manifests, but do NOT look at the contents. If you do, all rights you have re: your own face are null and void.

My first response was, "Really? That bad?" then I remembered the guy who had an apartment in the same building as mine (back in the day) who covered his walls with pictures of  Jeffery Dahmer (sp) that he had torn out of magazines and newspapers. He was later removed from campus after drilling holes in his finger tips with a hunting knife during poetry class.

So I guess a more appropriate response would be, "Yeah, that figures...."

It's not the bulk of flames, spam, self-censoring, or what have you that inspires that kind of response.  Mixed in with the shockingly mundane are a handful of "gems" that are actively corrosive to one's sanity.  The rest of it is just tossed in as extra shielding material to preserve the database from the horror.

On the plus side, if I ever go back to school for that Master's Degree, I think I know what my research project will be:

"From the Mouth of Madness: The Secret Internet Archives"

I'd give you a degree just for submitting a paper that awesome. 8)

(This may be why I'm not on the faculty of any accredited universities...)

There's been enough "gems" in there to make Randolph Carter scream out "Nooooope!" if he were Mod and real.
It's not about winning or losing, no it's all about how many chapters have you added to the rule books after your crazy antics.

From now on I will view all Mods as members of a secret society dedicated to the containment of eldritch horrors for the protection of all humanity.

"Hold the line, good Sirs and Madams, hold the line."

Also, I call dibs on the screenplay.

They're an AD&D class - the Moderatum, lawful neutral, fight with hammers & have the power of "turn chaos". Hit dice as per Clerics. Can multi-class with Agentus Demonstratum, MULibrarians, or Artistes.

May I suggest, Ur-tists instead?

Or Ur-testes if you feel like going blue.

What worktroll does not tell you is that our stats are not based on AD&D but on the Call of Cthulhu. You really need to score high on SAN if you want to last, each post you moderate draws on that capital...

From the last CoC game I GMed years ago:

Me: You fail you san roll. Lose XX pts. How does that leave you?

Player: <Looks at sheet. Looks at me. Looks at sheet. Looks at me. Brings his hands up like he's gripping a string between the pointing finger and thumb of each hand>

Me: What?

Player: <Pulls his hands apart> Piiing.
