Ruyken Paint Scheme
« on: 02 February 2011, 14:09:26 »

I'm starting to paint my first Ryuken Mechs, but how should I do it?

My current plan is following.
1. Black Primer
2. Charcoal paint
3. Another layer of Charcoal gray paint but little lighter
4. Details

I just found out that I have some Vallejo transparent pale gray wash. Any uses for that in general painting?

Washes usually are applied to the mini as a whole, and tend to sink into the panel lines. As such, they are best used for quick blacklining. Your transparent pale gray would look odd, being both transparent and light: the places that it did show from bunching up (i.e. panel lines) would be light instead of dark. I would think it would be best used for glazing by using it to have smooth transitions to from darker areas to lighter ones. It's possible you may have to add something to make it bond to the surface.

I'm about to do a lance of Ryuken-san.  The plan is...
1) gray primer
2) charcoal basecoat
3) blackwash
4) panel paint w/ charcoal
5) highlight w/ gray
6) possibly another (more fine) highlight with lighter gray if I feel like getting fancy
