Battleforce scale starter packs
« on: 04 June 2011, 09:16:55 »
What is currently the opinion on them?
Is there actually a need for this small scale? I thought BF could just as well be played with general scale models and the hexmaps are the same anyway?

Also these models, how balanced are the 2 starterpacks composition wise? And what faction(s) are best represented with each?

Yes I do believe that there is room for these Battle Force size minis. I enjoy playing Quick strike and Battle Force and I'm hoping to fan fund some minis if Sawbones will ever get back to me.

Absolutely.  The sooner they make a bunch of these, the sooner I'll never use 1/285th again.

No, I love my 1/285 size minis and would not be willing to part with them. But on the other hand. Having battalion size games I would only use Battle Force minis. I have Three sets of Inner Sphere  and 3 sets of clan. Defiantly believe these minis should be put out on a regular basis along with the 1/285 size.

they make a great cheap alternative to people who want minis, but can not afford 10 bucks a pop, particualrly when IWM starts selling them individually

true, getting a company of mechs for around 45 bucks is decent, that's for sure. especially if the people you play with don't really care what minis you use
"Warriors, not war machines, are the backbone of the Hell's Horses. While others worship the BattleMech as the ultimate weapon, the men and women of this Clan see even this awesome piece of technology as the tool it is. We have held to this philosophy since the days of our first Khan, who knew that the value of the common soldier far outstripped the brute force of the BattleMech. It is one reason our Clan possesses fewer mechs than most, and has led many to underestimate our fierceness and courage. Our survival against all challengers when others have fallen proves the folly of such arrogance, and testifies to the wisdom of our founders."

So what scale are these then? I realize scale is an arbitrary thing in BattleTech, but...

I'm interested as I'd like a bunch of mechs...at low cost, but what does a BF Atlas look like standing next to a regular size enforcer?  Silly?

Generally the minis are pretty good.   I have both packs and all but three assembled and primed. (Barghest, Emperor, Legionnaire remain)

Some minor complaints:
1. some of the minis won't stand on their own (cougar comes to mind right off) and you will need to base those before you can use them.
2. getting the arms on the emperor is going to be a pain in the posterior.
3. the joints are too small to pin at my skill level so the are going to be a bit fragile

Thanks for the comparison, they both look great, but I think mixing and matching... the enforcer in that picture certainly looks like the bigger threat.   Hmm, I wish IronWind was able to lay out their plans for the line...  I have the IBS with 24 mechs... as I expand I'd probalby want to choose one scale or the other...

I'll put it this way:
Regular scale - literally hundreds of 'Mechs, vehicles, ASF's, BA and infantry already available, with more on the way.
BF scale - 22 'Mechs available. Any expansion is still up in the air.

I just wish they would have marked the boxes a bit better as someone who doesnt know or who has never played Battleforce before(like me) can easily think that IWM is just trying to get peeps hooked on buying mechs and gave a really good deal and that "Battleforce" is just a way of saying you get a 12 mechs in a box and that its Company size. Seen many companys do it.

Question on the Legionnare, it looks like it has two versions of the rotary AC that is mounted on top based on the fact that I have two weapons on the sprue, is that correct?

It's two different variants, RAC/5 and ER PPC
