The Third Republican Guards Regiment was formed in 3029 from the first and second battalions of Justine's Grenadiers and the second battalion of the 4th Confederation Reserve Cavalry. These former Capellan Confederation units were "orphaned" during the Fourth Succession War and joined the new Tikonov Free Republic. Justine Gordon quickly built a new regiment out of these two heavily-damaged units. In 3030 the Third Republican assaulted Wasat, and forced the 15th Marik Militia to withdraw after capturing their headquarters unit.
These images show elements of the 3rd, supported by detachments from the 4th Republican Tank Regiment, during their deployment on Wasat.
The 3rd's company command lance is led from an Archer ARC-2R, supported by a Trebuchet TBT-5N, Blackjack BJ-1, and Vindicator VND-1R.
The Battle Lance commander's ride is a Crusader CRD-3L, with a Goliath GOL-1H, GRasshopper GHR-5H, with a Rifleman RFL-3N provising AA cover.
While the slightly incendiary Recon Lance contains a Vulcan VL-2T, Cicada CDA-2B, Firestarter FS9-H, and a Flea FLE-15.
The 4th Republican Tank Regiment was, at one point, assigned to the defence of Harcourt Production's factory on Tikonov. Harcourt, previously a minor player, producing antiquated Predator tank destroyers, used the legal opportunities associated with the formation of the Tikonov Free Republic to throw together assembly lines for a number of Quikscell products - unlicenced, of course. Simple visual changes were made in an attempt (ultimately futile) to avoid legal entanglement.
A platoon of "Harcourt T-72s" - functionally equivalent to Vedettes. Poor internal fuel capacity is partially compensated by the use of external tankage.
A platoon of "Harcourt T-55-AM"s - functionally equivalent to Scorpions.
And finally, a platoon of venerable Predators
The 4th contains integrated mechanised infantry; here we have a company made up of laser, flamer, and rifle platoons, with a squad of combat engineers in a modified APC.
So, this combined two interests:
1) Using up my pre-KS stock of older & odd minis, and
2) My new interest in the "blink and you'll miss them" states.
There's a reasonable number of oddities involved: other than the Unseens,
- RTT Rifleman and Archer
- Reseen Goliath 'corrected', turret from a BattleDroids Vedette, with new barrel
- Citytech Trebuchet (not too bad) and Blackjack (totally bad), with it's arms replaced (from a BlackJack Omni)
The armour printed for me by a good friend - the Tikonov connection made the use irresistable.
A big change from the ink work I've been doing lately. Classic drybrushing:
- Black base
- Two-three coats of red drybrush on the quadrants - not trying to be too accurate
- Fix up the lines with black
- Black out any details for later metallics
- Ghostbrush the black sections with light grey to raise edges
- Drybrush metallics.
A nice striking scheme.
