Title: (Answered) Anti-Mech Infantry Damage Value Discrepancies
Post by: GoldBishop on 26 April 2016, 11:05:11
Under "Resolving Physical Attacks" AlphaStrike p.42-43...

Upon making a successful AM [Anti-'Mech Infantry Attack], the damage value is listed as "Normal" but no value or example is provided.

It is understood that Standard and Melee Physical Attacks implies 'Mechs, with expanded rules for Charges and DFA following other To-Hit calculations accordingly.

It is also understood that Battlemech, Protomech, and Vehicle "Base Damage" = "Size", with conditional bonuses based on the attack type.

Question 1: What is "normal" AM damage for Infantry (Conventional and Battle Armor)?  Is it "Size", or "Short Range Damage" ..or Both?

My confusion stems from the difference between Anti-Mech and Swarm attacks in Standard/Classic, where one is a "flat damage" value, and the other is (paraphrased) "arm weapons only" value.

Follow-up Question [2]: Depending on the answer to my first Question, should Battle Armor Infantry with Vibroclaws (single or pair) have their AM Damage Value increased (as it is in Standard/Classic) regardless of Squad size?  Perhaps similar to how the MEL special is granted to 'Mechs except for Range [the attacking Infantry must in Base-To-Base or within 1" of their intended target].
[Currently Vibroclaws add damage to the entire Short Range bracket per AlphaStrike Companion p.102, utilizing the Troop Factor Table.  This may need attention for future conversions/adaptations/costs of a unit depending on the answer to the first question.]

Their short range damage value would be used.

Followup: This is for official rules answers as they are.  This isn't the place for me to speculate. Speculation should be in the Alpha Strike or Fan Designs forums, thanks.
