Thazi (Terran Hegemony)

General Rita Mitchell had spent the last few days working on how to incorperate the new units. Consulting with Major General Carman and Lieutenant General Johannsen, she was folding everyone into the 173rd Mechanized Infantry Division. Lieutenant General Johannsen would take over command of the 173rd MID. They would be under strength, but General Mitchell had stressed that for the time being they would be on garrison duty on Thazi, which would free up both the 280th and 29th MID for deployment if needed. The individual soldiers with Colonel Quincy Hill into various commands, the Mechwarriors brought the 280th MID's Headquarters and both Light Battlemech Battalions up to full strength and the 868 Infantry she assigned to the Infantry School as instructors under Colonel Quincy Hill. That relieved the Regiment from the 31st Infantry Division that had been acting as instructors.

 Armor Regiment - 3 Armor Battalions (173rd)

 Artillery Battalion - 2 Thor Artillery Company's

 Ground Aero Wing
Aerospace Group - 4 Squadrons Aerospace
Jump Infanry Regiment - 3 Jump Infantry Battalions

She looked at her final roster of available ground forces she kept hanging on her wall. The Forgotten Corps was now large enough that she was sure they could handle just about anything that came their way looking for trouble.

Uncharted System (Deep Space)

Commodore Trisha Delvaney, commander SLS Salvation, Newgrange Yardship watched as the Elephant Tug slowly worked SLS Conroy into her ships repair bay. Once inside, they would begin the task of removing the Jump Core from the Avatar Heavy Cruiser and grinding it down for recasting. After her engineers had conducted a damage assessment, they had recommended installing the new Jump Core, sealing her up and getting her back to Thazi. Once there, they could resume repairs and remanufacture new Transit Drives for the badly damaged Cruiser. Commodore Zeibler had not been happy to hear their recommendations, but he had to accept the decision because it made tactical sense. At least at Thazi, they were in a much more protected location than out in Deep Space. Commodore Delvany estimated it would take 9 months to grind the destroyed Jump Core down, recast a new Jump Core and get it installed.

9 months isn't bad for a complete grind and recast, really.

As far as the Recruit Battalions, I'd try to keep them as mixed as possible with experienced units.  So in the 1731st Brigade, I'd split up the 2 Recruit Battalions into two different regiments, with two veteran units each.  In the 1732nd, I'd take the second most senior Battalion Commander and make them a Regimental Commander with 2 Recruit battalions under them. That would make the first Regiment 2 battalions from the 81st with one Recruit Battalion, and the third one from the 81st with two Recruit Battalions.

Was trying to keep the actual sub units together. That change might come a bit later as some training snags come into play. Gotta let the Division commander or Brigade commander stumble a little.

My biggest concern is the "recruit" Regimental Commander...

Oh, don't worry, all Company commanders and above are SLDF veterans......I just have not done the mass promotions yet. There will be a ton of bump up one rank to fill in command slots, even the platoon commanders will be new officers drawn from the ranks of the SLDF.

That will help, but I'd feel better with a full veteran battalion behind that Regimental Commander...

Hello and thank you for an awesome storyline so far. Question on some organizational issues, listing of Marine units..you have elements of 9917th, 9918th, 9919th Marine Regiments and elements of the 9th Royal CAAN Regiment...there's also quite a large hodgepodge of Jump Infantry Battalions and Regiments...why not consolidate them perhaps as a Provisional Marine Brigade (Fleet Marines)and a Provisional Jump Infantry Brigade..gives you some quick strike/reaction units actually online with SLDF doctrine and practice outlined in the sourcebooks.

The Forgotten Corps is shaping up to large and potentially very capable force. With such a large aggregate of unit maybe its time to organize a higher headquarters akin to a Corps or Force Headquarters both for Ground Forces and Naval Forces. SLDF naming conventions...Units have a designation and an official as well as an unofficial nickname...The polity that's evolved probably deserves a name as well...a Star League Protectorate or Regency...maybe this..the Star League Regency Protectorate...just a suggestion. The Corps is large and varied but seems a little under equipped in Aerospace Fighters both in Ground and Naval units. Lots of equipment but quite a dearth of logistical or manufacturing infrastructure for long, sustained operations. Training and replacements..units attrite over time..fact of life...a ratio of 10 percent turnover of personnel annually is most realistic...for a force of 8 divisions plus change...a naval force of warship squadron strength ( 12-18 vessels) is a squadron and several squadrons of jumpship and dropship lift...that's quite a large amount of bodies minimum...maybe a dedicated Training Command and Logistics or Support Command. The other issue is the overwhelming need of keeping secrecy...you need an Intelligence organization. I think that a force this size pretty much requires that your Force have a dedicated higher organization as well as support structure...just food for thought. Keep up the good work remember the BattleTech Community has quite a good body of work and knowledge at your fingertips both in people and sources...and thanks again for superb story.

Thazi (Terran Hegemony)

The problems never stopped for General Rita Mitchell. The ammunition problem had again raised it's vile ugly head. The lack of ammunition was putting a severe limit on gunnery training. To remain qualified, a SLDF command chewed through ammuntion at a furious rate. Unless armed with an all energy armament, everyone else suffered quickly with a degredation of skills. She leaned back in her chair and stared at the ceiling in an attempt to come up with a solution to the problem. After 20 minutes of thinking, she suddenly sat up. Buried deep in her memory, it had taken her some time to recall that they knew exactly where they could lay their hands on the very equipment they needed to manufacture their own ammunition.

"Get me Commodore Bythe, SLS Hatchet on the radio and patch it to my office ASAP." She ordered, it took 15 minutes

"Commodore Blythe, General Mitchell. You still have the exact locations and routes to those Rim World Outposts aboard your ship?"

"Yes sir, Major General Rommel has a complete set, as does Commodore Coltrain. But I too have a complete set. Why?"

"Get them and get on a shuttle to the surface. I need them down here ASAP. Mitchell out." She ordered and then "Get me Rear Admiral Tanaka on the radio and patch her to my office. I also need Major General Hanesworth and Colonel Calloway in my office ASAP." Getting Rear Admiral Tanaka only tok 10 minutes

"Admiral, General Mitchell, I need you on a shuttle and on the surface ASAP."

Two hours later, Major General Hanesworth and Colonel Calloway were shown into her office. Both officers were dirty and smelly. "Sorry to yank you both out of the field, but I am officially issuing you warning orders for deployment. Are your commands combat ready?" General Mitchell asked

"The 29th Mechanized Infantry Division is ready. I will need 72 hours to get them in from the field and get some quick maintence conducted." Major General Haneswoth replied

"The 3391st is always ready for deployment. I can be ready to move in 24 hours time." Colonel Calloway said

"Good, get your commands in from the field and be ready to embark with little notice. Draw supply for an extended campaign, up to a year. Get moving, I will have a better briefing for you soon." She ordered and both officers saluted and left her office at a run.

18 August 2768

Rear Admiral Tanisha Tanaka and Commodore William Blythe landed at the space port and were taken directly to General Mitchell's office. She waved both to seats as she finsished making notes. "What is the status of the Fleet Admiral Tanaka?"

"The 55th Reconnaissance Division is 100% combat ready. SLS Tirpitz is 100% combat ready and assigned in orbit of Thazi per your orders. Both Dart Light Cruisers are unmanned and not combat ready. SLS Independence is unmanned but fully repaired." Rear Admiral Tanaka replied

"What would it take to man the Independence?" General Mitchell asked

"She needs a crew and full air wing and support personnel. In an emergency, I could pull the crew from 2 Vincent Corvettes to crew her. But I don't have the air wing's to put on her." Rear Admiral Tanaka replied wondering what the hell was going on

"Make it so Admiral Tanaka. I will transfer Aerospace Fighters from the Divisions aong with support personnel to man the Independence. We need ammunition and the ability to make it on site. 630LY from where we sit is exactly what we need. We are going to take it, dismantle it and bring it back here. I want your 55th Recon, SLS Mighty Lift, SLS Rhodon and SLS Independence made ready for an extended operation. Draw supplies for a year mission minimum, could be 2 years. Opposition unknown. Take 2 Star Lords and 12 Mammoth Dropships, load 2 of the Mammoths with food supplies. Empty them first. You will escort the 29th MID and 3391st Special Forces. SLS Hatchet remains here as a quick reaction force while your away. Plan to take the 9919th Marine Regiment with you, just in case. We are going to strip that Outpost of anything we can use." General Mitchell said

"Yes sir, could this not wait until Commodore Delvaney returns with SLS Conroy and her Task Force?" Rear Admiral Tanaka asked

"Our ammuntion situation is critical. I cannot train my troops without ammunition. We have enough for about 60 days of heavy combat Corps wide. And we have no way to replace any ammuntion we expend. So it is a zero su equation. Sooner or later, we run out of ammuntion and are really in trouble. This is now a top priority." General Mitchell said

Thanks for input Kiko70, always glad to answer questions.

Most of what you suggest is coming, but down the road some. Secrecy is easy right now, because it is so far out in the boondocks and nothing gets into any system without passing by a warship. No civilian traffic per se right now. Only 4 Merchant Jumpships running supplies between the 3 planets, with Marine guards aboard.

This is going to be a LOOOOONGGGGG story spanning several centuries. Down the road, you will start seeing time jumps of several years. But that is probably 10 years down the road. Currently the upper command stuff is easier due to the close distance between the commands, if they start spreading out, they will then need a Higher Command Structure.

We are still in the ground work laying stage of the story. Problem stick it's head up and gets whacked. Hope that answers some of your questions.

Outpost 4 is the first target, the closest...….Outpost 7 is by my calculation 800LY, but Outpost 11 is almost 1400LY......year just to get there.

14 December 2768
Bastrop (Federated Suns)

Ships Captain Martin Zuni was in the office of the largest Law Office on Bastrop. He had been waiting over 30 minutes to meet with one of the Law Offices partners having dismissed one of the low level lawyers they had first tossed at him. Finally, a short man, dressed in a very expensive suit appeared. "Mister Zuni, I am Jonathon Fleesum, founding partner of Fleesum and Gougem. I am told you refuse to speak to anyone but a full partner. I usually let my lower level attorney's handle most matters. But, it is a slow day, so if you will follow me, we will discuss your needs."

Once they were inside Jonathon Fleesum's office and the door closed, Martin Zuni pulled out the rough draft he had written up setting up ZaP Interstellar Shipping along with the registration numbers and paper work declaring 4 Invader Jumpships transfered to Martin Zuni from General Rita Mitchell, commanding officer of the 272nd Mechanized Infantry Division, as payment for services rendered to the SLDF and signed by her and witnessed by 4 other Flag Officers of the SLDF and notarized by an attorney on Thazi. He laid the paperwork on Fleesum's desk.

"I would like to incorporate a shipping company, ZaP Interstellar Shipping. CEO, Martin Zuni and CFO Martha Pruitt. Our initial ship roster is 2 Merchant Jumpships and 4 Invader Jumpships fully owned by ZaP Interstellar Shipping with an additional 4 Merchant Jumpships operating under long term contract. All the ships Star League registration numbers are listed there along with the proper paperwork transferring the 4 Invader Jumpships to me as payment." Martin Zuni said

Jonathon Fleesum flipped through the paperwork Zuni had handed over "You know, this sort of thing is really handled at a much lower level than myself. It costs much more for someone like myself to handle this kind of matter, versus one of my lower level lawyers."

"That is not how I like to do business. I prefer to deal with the person in charge. We would also like to place you on retainer for all legal matters and have your accounting department handle filing all related paperwork with the Federated Suns and Star League. Our scope of business will be shipping in the outer Federated Suns systems but potentially the majority of our shipping will be within the Outworlds Alliance." Martin Zuni said

"Very well, you know if you registered in the Outworlds Alliance as your primary location, the taxes would be cheaper than the Federated Suns." Jonathon Fleesum said

"It would, but the Outworlds Alliance does not wield the same protections as a ship working under Federated Suns registration." Martin Zuni said

"Very well. A retainer will cost 500,000 per year, with services rendered at 300 per hour in addition to the retainer fee. Registering your company will cost 1.5 million, this will handle all the needed paperwork and proper filings with the Federated Suns authorities plus thier fee's. For an additional 500,000 I can expidite the paperwork and have everything in order within a week, otherwise it might take 4 months. This is mainly to pay for a priority HPG transmission to New Avalon and get their answer." Jonathon Fleesum said

"All of that would be fine. I will have my bank wire transfer to you 10 million dollars. That will cover all fee's and handle your retainer fee and possibly any other fee's for work I might need handled. If the account gets to 1 million, let me know and I will handle the arrangements for another transfer of funds. You should have the funds within 24 hours." Martin Zuni said

Jonathon Fleesum had thought the amounts would scare the guy away, but was shocked when Zuni had agreed and even upped the money on him "That would be quite all right sir. I will start the process immediately and transmit the filing the moment we receive your funds."

"Excellent. I will leave you to your work then. Pleasure doing business with you, now I will be off to my bank." Martin Zuni said

Two hours later, he was in the local office of his bank. Nice thing about banking with basically the Federated Suns' National Bank, they had an office on virtually every planet in the Federated Suns. It had been a while since he had been in this particular branch, and was pleased to see the same President still here.

"Mister Zuni, a pleasure to see you again. It has been what, 2 or 3 years since the last time?" The Bank President said

"About that. I need to arrange a wire transfer to Fleesum and Gougem for the amount of 10 million dollars. I also need to set up an account for ZaP Interstellar Shipping, the paperwork is being done by Fleesum and Gougem, you can contact them for the proper paperwork. CEO is Martin Zuni, me and CFO is Martha Pruitt. Both will have full access to the account. Once you get the paperwork, transfer 450 million into that account. I will also need purchase cards on the account in both my and Martha Pruitt's names." Martin Zuni said

The Bank President had been making furious notes while Martin Zuni had been speaking "Will that be all Mister Zuni?"

"For now, yes. I will probably be making a sizable deposit very soon. Those will be going into my personal account." Martin Zuni said

"Very good sir. I will make sure everything moves along smoothly. Of course there is a small fee for everything, I assume you want me to debit your account as usual?" The Banl President asked

"Of course. Handle the matter for me." Martin Zuni said

18 December 2768

Martin Zuni was now in the large plush office of Penelope Swank, the largest dealer in Jumpships and Dropships on Bastrop. "Martin Zuni, it has been a few years. I am sorry I have not been able to secure a used Star Lord Jumpship at the price you requested yet. I am still looking."

"That is okay Ms Swank. We will find one some day, but right now, I have 5 Drost IIA I would like to sell. Here is the paperwork transferring ownership to me. All were legally siezed by the SLDF as war prizes. I would like a good price for them." Martin Zuni said

Penelope Swank took the paperwork and looked it over "Everything looks in order. There will be a fee of 25,000 per Dropship to transfer the titles. But that should not be an issue. It is an old design and not in heavy demand. But I am sure I can find a buyer for them. Very few ships are staying on the market for long. The SLDF is snapping up almost every ship that hits the market. The will probably buy these too." Mentally, she was calculating what she could get for each Dropship on the market. "I can pay your 190 million per Dropship."

"240 million Ms Swank. Don't try to swindle me." Martin Zuni said

"200 million. It is going to take some doing to move those old Dropships." Penelope Swank said

"I will take 230 million for each Dropship." Martin Zuni said

"215 million for each and I will not go any higher Martin. If you want more, you are free to find someone else." Penelope Swank said firmly

"Then we have a deal Ms Swank. 215 million for each Dropship. If my math is correct, 1,075,000,000 for all 5 Dropships. I am going to make your day and take 1,074,000,000 for them. You can keep 1 million to cover the fee's plus if I manage to come across any more ships, you will be my first visit." Martin Zuni said

"Would you like me to order you a brand new Star Lord Jumpship with the funds? You can afford it now you know." Penelope Swank asked

"Not right now Ms Swank. You can transfer the funds to this account. I saw you had a Buccaneer Dropship listed, surprised the SLDF has not snapped that up. What is wrong with it, you have it listed for only 75 million?" Martin Zuni asked

"It was a repo. The owner defaulted on the payments. I bought it at auction for 60 million less than a week ago. It is in excellent condition. You want it?" Penelope Swank asked

"Sure. I will take it off your hands. You can subtract the funds from what I am owed. You will handle the title transfer?" Martin Zuni asked

"Not a problem Martin. Title in your name I assume?" Penelope Swank asked

"No, place in the name of ZaP Interstellar Shipping. I will be on planet another week or so. Have some more business to conduct. Fleesum and Gougem is handling the setting up of my new company. Contact them for the relevent paperwork." Martin Zuni said

"I will surely do that Mister Zuni. You need anything at all, you contact me." Penelope Swank said

6 January 2769
Ramora (Outworlds Alliance)

Martha Pruitt was very nervous, I should have insisted that Martin take Ramora, he knows the Outworlds folks better than her, she thought. Her nervousness was caused by the Alliance customs officals aboard all the ships in her small convoy. I just hope the SLDF Marines aboard the 2 Invader Jumpships don't go nuts and open fire, she thought while the customs officer checked her log books. "Your a very long way from your normal operating area Ms Pruitt. May I ask why?"

"Easy, the Taurian Concordat is a mess. Pirates running all over the place. My friend Martin Zuni suggested I team up with him and I took him up on the deal. Here I am." She reponded, go away, she wished silently.

"Martin Zuni, I have not seen or heard his name in several years. I thought for sure he had gotten himself killed during all the uproar the last few years." Before he could ask anything else, his portable pad beeped and he read the information before looking up at her "It seems that both Invader Jumpships and all 5 Drost IIA Dropships have registrations that are false. Your Merchant Jumpship is completely up to date. Care to explain the problem with the other vessels?"

Martha Pruitt thought he would hear her heart pounding as she produced a copy of the transfer of registration signed by General Mitchell and witnessed by the other SLDF officers. "This is a valid transfer to Martin Zuni's ownership of all the ships. The SLDF captured them as war booty and declared previous ownership void. They then transferred the vessels to Martin Zuni for payment for services rendered."

The customs official took the forms and read over them before looking up "Thazi, Boulsi. These are Outworlds Alliance worlds. Mister Zuni is now liable for the capital gains taxes on the vessels and the fine for each vessel not properly registered and being in Outworlds Alliance space." He started keying a calculator "The captial gains tax of 1% is 28,094,454 dollars and the fines are 1,050,000 dollars. For an additional 2 million dollars, I can make sure all of the vessels are properly registered with the Outworlds Alliance and even issue temporary registration right here."

Friggin grifter, she thought, god how I hate corrupt officials. "That would be fine sir, I will be selling the Drost IIA Dropships while I am here, but if you could handle the registrations, that would speed things up a bunch." Knowing full well that at least 1.6 million was about to be put in this guys bank account.

"Excellent. If you will accompany me to the Recharge Station, I will get everything in order for you. There are several ship brokers on board, I can recommend one to you if you would like." The customs official replied

"Well, that is too kind of you sir. That would be a huge help. Let's get the paperwork handled and I will transfer the funds to pay everything. Martin can repay me." Martha Pruitt said, probably gets a kickback steering folks to the brokers.

An hour later, the funds transferred to the proper accounts, in record time the customs official had produced registration for all of the vessels. The entire time, she could not help but stare at the placard on the wall behind the customs official FEE FOR SHIP REGISTRATION 50,000, EXPIDITE FEE 5,000.

As he handed over the registrations he said "See Mr Shisterman, he has an office on the main grav deck. He can get you the best deals for those Dropships."

"Thank you sir, you have been a huge help today." Martha Pruitt said as she took the registrations and stood.

"Please, it was my pleasure. Give my regards to Mr Zuni." The customs official said with a smile

It took her another 45 minutes to locate the office of Mr Shisterman. Probably a waste of time, I doubt this guy can afford all 5 Dropships, she thought as she enetered the small office. A small but overweight man stood as she entered "How may I help you madam?"

"Looking for Mr Shisterman, I have some Dropships I would like to sell." Martha Pruitt said

"You found him. Multpile Dropships? That is very unusual. But I think we can come to an agreement. What have you got?" He said as he sat back down behind his small desk.

"I have 5 Drost IIA Dropships in excellent condition for sell. Here are the registrations for them." Martha said as she handed over the new registrations

"Still warm from the printer. You must have run afoul of Jake Ballster, head of the Customs Department here. No matter, they are valid. Drost IIA you say, old design, not in a high demand. I will give you 160 million each." He offered

Martha held out her hand for the registrations as she stood "No way, 250 million each or I go somewhere else. I am no fool sir."

"Wait, 250 million is way too high, I will go to 200 million."

"The registrations please. 250 million or no deal. I am sure I can find a broker that will gladly pay that amount." Martha said

"240 million, that is my last offer. You will find soon enough that I am the only broker here that can take all 5 ships off your hands right now."

"Sold. Your get the registrations the moment the money hits my account. This is the account number. And you will be eating the tax, title and licensing of the vessels." Martha said

"Your killing me maam. But I agree to your terms. The money will be sent out immediately. You can verify it from the HPG station if you would like. Takes about an hour each way for a response."

"I will see you in a few days Mr Shisterman. Pleasure doing business with you." Martha Pruitt said as she headed for the door.

10 January 2769

Martha Pruitt had gotten the HPG message from Martin Zuni that the money had hit his account, 1.2 Billion dollars. He was still on Bastrop, picking up 2,000 tons of cargo to take back to Thazi to sell to the locals. The message had filled her in on everything that had transpired since he had been on Bastrop. She had passed on the registrations, undocked the Dropships and wasted no time in departing Ramora.

20 January 2769
Rimworlds Outpost #4 (Deep Periphery)

Polemarchos Emerson Dragonovich had granted the personnel of his Flotilla surface time. They had been travelling for a long time without any real ground time and it was time for a break. They would not leave the system for the return journey to the Rim Worlds Republic until March. He had left RWS Dragonfly, Riga Frigate fully manned while RWS Firefly, Riga Frigate only had a care taker crew aboard. All of the Mammoth Dropships had been brought to the surface along with all the crew from the 5 Leviathon Jumpships. He already had the cargo manifests of the equipment being loaded aboard the designated Mammoth Dropships.

720 Merkava Mk VIII Heavy Tanks
 960 Korvin Medium Tanks
 824 Ignis Infantry Support Tanks
 1,920 Heavy Tracked APC
 1,142 Sherpa Armored Trucks
 824 Sherpa Fuel Trucks
 10,000 tons LRM-15 ammo
 6,000 tons LRM-10 ammo
 15,000 tons AC/5 ammo
 8,000 tons SRM-4 ammo
 5,000 tons MG ammo
 17,000 tons spare parts

It would be loaded aboard 14 Mammoth Dropships which left him with 16 Mammoth Dropships still empty. He had met with Taxiarchos Waylon Hazot only twice since landing and found the man completely worthless. Cruel and barbaric, he was the type of officer that got assigned to these far flung Outposts. He had ordered that there would be no mistreatment of anyone while he or his people were on the planet's surface. Just the mere thought of the little turd made him spit into the dirt of this miserable ball of dirt.

NP119167

Rear Admiral Tanisha Tanaka, commander Task Force Raider, estimated they were 3 weeks from the Rimworlds Outpost. They had no clue what they would find when they got there, but Major General Hanesworth, 29th Mechanized Infantry Division was confident they could quickly secure the planet. What he worried about was the amount of time it would take to dismantle and load everything they found there. Major General Mitchell had added 4 Engineer Battalions to his force to assist in the disassembly of the factory complexes.

The troops of the 29th Mechanized Infantry Division were eager to redeem themselves and were looking forward to this fight. Technicians ran tests on every piece of equipment and anything that showed any kind of fault was immediately stripped out and replaced or repaired.

Since the span of this story is for so long the Hidden Hegemony (Trademark pending  ;D) will be able to eventually take Outposts 7 & 11 with no real fight and possibly even get a ship yard if they go for outpost 27 where ever that one is. That will give them all the manufacturing they need. After that it will come down to finding enough resources to keep the manufacturing going and a population that is both large enough and educated. They should have enough food since it was mentioned 2 of the planets provide for other planets already.  Outpost 4 and 11 will be able to provide trained people since they can rescue outpost 4's and 11's population. Looks like 7 won't make it unless they go for it quickly and that won't probably happen unless they find somewhere in the ships computers the plan to abandon the outposts or the rebel captain knows that they are to be abandoned. I imagine that improving the infrastructure of of the 3 base planets will be where any additional funds from their shipping company will go. With the number of jump ships and dropships and with what they will be able to produce with their new manufacturing plants they should be able to generate a pretty hefty trade surplus with the Federated Suns alone.

18 February 2769
Rim Worlds Outpost #4

Rear Admiral Tanisha Tanaka, commander Task Force Raider shook off the effects from the jump into the Zenith Jump Point. Sensor's quickly came back on and registered the 5 Leviathon Jumpships. She quickly ordered "Launch the 9919th Marine Regiment and secure those Leviathon Jumpships. Once they are secure, we will move for the planet. Get the CAP launched." It would take just over 6 days to reach orbit.

Within the hour, all 5 Leviathon Jumpships had been secured. She ordered a single Marine Battalion left aboard the Leviathons to keep them secured while the remaining fleet, except the 2 Star Lord Jumpships that they had brought with them. Navigators plotted a jump to a La Grange point roughly a day from the only habitable planet and leaving SLS Mighty Lift, Potemkin Transport and SLS Independence, Samarkand II Carrier to escort the mass of Dropships, Rear Admiral Tanaka ordered her LF equipped warships to make the jump.

The SLDF Task Force materialized at the La Grange point and were just starting to move when the 2 Rim Worlds Riga Frigates emerged from the back side of the planet and sensors quickly detected them. Rear Admiral Tanaka quickly ordered "Launch all fighters. We focus on the leading Riga Frigate, not sure why the other Riga is not accelerating, to keep up with the lead, but I will take stupidity any day."

SLS Rhodon, Luxor Heavy Cruiser took the lead, SLS Windego, Whirlwind Destroyer, SLS Dominator and SLS Halthom, Vincent Corvette's swung wide, ready to flank and swarm the oncoming Riga Frigate.

As the SLDF Aerospace fighters closed on the lead Riga Frigate, their sensors detected small craft heading for the rear Riga Frigate. "Admiral, we are detecting small craft heading for the rear Riga. I am detailing 2 Squadrons to shoot them down." Captain Bernard Nelson reported

On his orders, 2 Squadrons of Sabre SB-28 broke off from the large formation of SLDF Aerospace fighters and accelerated to intercept the enemy shuttles. Captain Nelson mentally calculated the closing rate of his fighters and the shuttles coming up from the surface and smiled he came to the conclusion that his fighters would reach the shuttles before they reached the Riga Frigate. He then returned his focus to the leading Riga Frigate which was now launching it's own Aerospace fighters, but he knew he had the numerical advantage on them. He had 24 Aerospace Fighters from the warships remaining and an additional 12 Aerospace Fighters from the Titan Dropship carried by SLS Rhodon.

His smile grew into a evil sneer as the lead enemy Aerospace fighters were identified, 6 Star Dagger, followed by 6 Vulcan VLC-5N. "Ravens, take out the Vulcan's, break, Vulture's I would prefer not to have to watch my tail so please handle the Star Daggers. Falcons, let's hammer that Riga." Captain Nelson called out as he led his 2 Squadrons of Stuka STU-K5b2 in their attack on the Riga Frigate. Raven consisted of 12 Typhoon TFN-3M and Vulture consisted of 12 Sabre SB-28. Before Captain Nelson and the Falcon's reached the Riga Frigate, they targeted the Rim World fighters rushing to intercept them and managed to down 3 Star Dagger and a Vulcan as they blew past them and continued to engage the Riga Frigate.

As Captain Nelson and his Stuka's began ripping chunks off the Riga Frigate, Commodore Barbara Coltrain, aboard the SLS Rhodon, Luxor Heavy Cruiser, gave the order "Weps, you are weapons free at this time. Helm alter course to port to maximize weapons on target."

Before SLS Rhodon began her turn, her weapos officer opened fire with 6 Medium NPPC, 2 Medium Naval Gauss and 3 Naval Laser 55 which reached out for the Riga Frigate. Armor shattered across the Riga's Nose and Front Left but none penetrated. As SLS Rhodon made her turn, her weapons officer loose with another volley, 7 Medium NPPC, 4 NL/55 and 2 Medium Naval Gauss went down range followed a few seconds later by 2 NAC/25 and 4 NAC/30 as the Riga Frigate entered the long range brackett. The first volley tore into the Riga Frigate weakening the armor on her Nose to paper thin until the massive NAC rounds struck, 2 NAC/30 rounds slammed into the Riga's Nose stripping it of the last scraps of armor and burrowing deep into the Frigate causing massive internal damage. Return fire from the Riga Frigate tore some armor from SLS Rhodon's Right Broadside. With the Riga Frigate still holding a steady course, Commodore Barbara Coltrain ordered "Helm, maximum thrust, I would prefer to not get into a close range brawl with that Riga."

"Rear Admiral Tanaka, this Commodore Coltrain, I think I can handle this Riga, suggest you take engage the other Riga."

Rear Admiral Tanaka gave the order and her SLS Windego, Whirlwind Destroyer along with SLS Dominator and SLS Halthom, Vincent Corvette's accelerated to engage the second Riga Frigate which still had not accelerated to engage. She checked the ships plot and saw that the Eagles were engaging the line of shuttles trying to reach her targeted Riga Frigate. Lieutenant Cristy Brandt laughed aloud in the cockpit of her Sabre as the weaponless ST-46 shuttle desperately tried to shake her non stop weapons fire. They had already shot down 4 shuttles and were engaging the last 2 shuttles now. It only took 5 minutes before the last 2 shuttles were destroyed, with them 2/3rds of the second Riga's crew, which had been on the surface for some shore leave. "Shuttles destroyed, Eagles are engaging the Riga Frigate now. Eagles, we can only scratch this thing, so let's focus on the engines."

Aboard RWS Firefly, Riga Frigate, Commodore Jekariti Namukanam knew he was in a dance to the death with the Luxor Heavy Cruiser. His Nose was completely destroyed and her Jump Core was massively cracked. The 750,000 ton warship shuddered as another volley from the Luxor Heavy Cruiser raked his ship. He saw that the last volley had ripped his armor to paper thin all along his Port Side. Their return fire scored the occasional hit, but the crew of the Luxor were vastly more expereinced and landed most of their shots while his could only obtain the occasional hit unless at close range. But no matter what he did, he could not close the range on the Luxor Heavy Cruiser, which managed to maintain the range, all the while slamming massive volleys into RWS Firefly. "Helm, alter course, best speed, let's head for the SLDF convoy, maybe we can rip up their troops."

"Commodore Coltrain, the Riga is altering course and accelerating, they are heading with for the convoy."

"I see it, no way we will catch her, but we can chew her up while we pursue. Helm get on her ass and stay there, Weps beat that Riga down." She ordered

Aboard RWS Dragonfly, Riga Frigate, Commodore Jennifer Harrison had watched 2/3rds of her crew get destroyed by the SLDF fighters now conducting annoying attacks on her AFT section. They could not do any great damage, but they were annoying. But the 3 oncoming SLDF warships were a different matter and with them came a swarm of Aerospace Fighters. While her Aerospace Fighters sat in their launch bays, pilotless. She barely had enough crew to "fly" her ship, much less fight her effectively. "Helm, break orbit, no one else is coming. Weps, your free to engage with whatever you can manage."

RWS Dragonfly began taking hits within an hour of breaking orbit while her return fire was almost useless. Commodore Harrison knew her ship was doomed, but would do the best she could. That moment finally came as a Vincent Corvette came in close and RWS Dragonfly hit it with 3 NAC/25 and a single NAC/30 shell, leaving her a wreck. The moment the shells had raked the Vincent Corvette stripping the armor and burrowing into her internals, Commodore Harrison surrendered her ship to save the rest of her crew, she had done her best with what she had on hand.

20 February 2769

Chasing the Riga Frigate and unable to close the range, SLS Rhodon, Luxor Heavy Cruiser could only engage at extreme range which minimized the number of hits she could score. But she was hitting the Riga Frigate alot more than the Riga was hitting her. Commodore Coltrain, SLS Rhodon, knew her crew was worn out. The constant 2.5g thrust made every task that much harder. But finally, a hit knocked out one of the Riga's massive drives, which would allow them to gain on the badly wounded Riga Frigate, but it would be a slow gain.

Aboard RWS Firefly, Riga Frigate, Commodore Jekariti Namukanam saw the plot change as the SLDF Luxor Heavy Cruiser slowly inched closer with his ship now unable to maintain maximum thrust. He could also see on the plot a Samarkand II Carrier ahead of the mass of Dropships. There was no way he would be able to get past the Carrier and her air wing. It was hopeless, the damage to his ship was too extensive. They had already taken severe damage to the ships internal strcuture, the Jump Core was virtually destroyed and his ship's medical bay was over flowing with casualties. "Helm, being us to a halt. Comm, signal our surrender to the SLDF."

22 February 2769

Marines from the 9919th Marine Regiment quickly secured RWS Firefly, Riga Frigate. Leaving a Battalion abaord, the Elephant Tug transported the last Battalion to secure RWS Dragonfly, Riga Frigate slowly resuming orbit around the planet under the guns of SLS Windego, Whirlwind Destroyer.

24 February 2769

Colonel Calloway and his 3391st Special Forces had accelerated his Dropships once the warship threat was removed and now they grounded 20km from the only city detected during their 2 passes around the planet. Major Sandra Barkley led her 2 Company's of Spector SPR-4F at best speed and under full EMCON followed by Colonel Calloway and his Nighthawk equipped SF troops. The 29th Mechanized Infantry Division would land tomorrow.

The low gravity hampered her advance and speed, but it still only took minutes for her Spector's to begin engaging the few tanks that attmepted to halt their advance. She missed her Thunderbolt, but had to admit these little Spectors were quite fun to pilot. It had taken her and her Mechwarriors a few weeks to get the hang of the little Spector's and their abilities, and being next to invisible was a huge asset to have. It took only two hours to secure the factory complex of any resistance. Colonel Calloway ordered defensive positions to be laid out. The 29th Mechanized Infantry Division could handle securing the city itself. It was nice of them to place the space port right next to the factory complex as she covered a Company of Nighthawk equipped SF troops securing the 40 Mammoth Dropships at the space port.
