Binary Laser Cannon NOS 9 16 12 12 0 0The Harpy is a VSTOL-capable conventional fighter produced by the Gumerian Diktat. The Harpy features a nose-mounted Binary Laser Cannon- a weapon that was particularly en vogue with Gumerian officers in the 31st century due to its ability to decapitate dangerous Mechani Alliance battlemechs at a significant range. Armor, speed and fuel are all roughly normal for a fighter of its size.
The Harpy was envisioned as a cost-effective way to field this weapon in the air, providing garrisons a fast and dispatchable platform to threaten any hostile Battlemech formations. However, they more commonly fought Mechani and Crossroadian aircraft that screened ground forces during the 1st Gumerian War, including drone conventional fighters like the Firefly UAAV. The Binary Laser cannon proved to be clumsy overkill against Firefly swarms, and like all conventional fighters the Harpy was easy prey for high-performance aerospace fighters (though the threat the Blazer cannon posed to such fighters couldn't be discounted).
