Orion-2K
« on: 10 September 2018, 00:27:00 »
I designed this one to showcase the new 3059 tech of the FWL in a simple D-Grade field refit of old 3025 Orion-1K chassis.

Something they could issue out to units that were not getting top of the line new production mechs.

Its pretty basic but let me know what you think.

Light Gauss, ER-Medium Lasers,  Artemis, & Guardian combined with Double Heatsinks & Ferro Fibrous armor add range & endurance while keeping the feel of the classic.

Had to drop the SRMs to get the bigger LRM rack but I felt it was a worthwhile trade in a Clan Invasion era refit.

I'm honestly thinking you'd have been better off keeping the LRM rack at 15 tubes, and putting a Streak-2 in...

Hmm, Interesting, I hadn't thought of a Streak-2 at all.

What would the benefit be?

I was shooting for better range & less ammo over all since it lacks CASE being based on the 1K chassis.

I wasn't looking for the ECM but had 1.5 Tons from the switch to FFA to play with.

A Streak-4 & LRM15+Art would fit in there with 1/2 ton left over.

Or, drop the Artemis too for a full Streak-6.

But again, over all I was looking for more ranged firepower with this refit.

Still, might be something to consider as I wasn't thrilled w/ the ECM as it was.

Thanks.

I was just thinking similarity to the original, and ease of refit.  I figured a different SRM launcher would be easier to integrate than a 3 ton larger LRM.

Ah, gotcha.

Well in game terms the larger LRM rack makes it a 'C' grade refit.

But, the DHS make it a 'D' grade refit & went with those since showcasing the Leagues ERMLs kind of made it a must.

Also the Artemis & ECM have it at 'D' grade as well.

But I did have another thought.

I could put an AMS in the SRM slot to keep the matching "locations" feel of it & avoid the ECM which I wasn't keen on to begin with.

Hmm, that or the Streak-6 option are both looking better to me.

changing the sink types used to be a major issue basically an overhaul or a swap, not sure on current policy, and if you are changing armor types, adding CASE shouldn't be an issue

Changing Armor is Class-C & requires a Repair Bay or Dropship Cubicle

Swapping Heatsinks is Class-D & also requires a Repair Bay or Dropship Cubicle in a pinch, but is a bit harder (+1/+2 to the # IIRC)

CASE, however is Class-E & requires a full factory, so its an issue.

CASE being Class E always bugged me.  It would be a no-brainer otherwise.

Back in the earlier books when it was just class A-B-C kits, the Armor was harder than the CASE.

CASE was middle "B-Grade" while Armor was in the top of the line kit IIRC.

But those 2 basically swapped positions when they created the TW series & Strat Ops.

Apparently CASE is far closer to "Internal structure" than it is "Armor"

That would make more sense if they hadn't fluffed it as Ferro-Fibrous...
