Whisperer Attack Submarine
Overview
Post-conflict analysis of the failed rebellion in the old Home Worlds showed the Society that there was a lot in underwater combat. To dominate this environment they quickly developed the Whisperer Attack Submarine. It is an underwater superiority craft, able to win any one-on-one torpedo exchange, with any known design.
The initial versions of the Whisperer were standard combat vehicles, only after the Society saw the greater potential in the design was it redesigned into an OmniVehicle, featuring vehicular Endosteel. The former are now regarded as prototypes.
Capabilities
The majority of the weapon systems are mounted in the nose and is designed to arc forward from vertical tubes, to cover the other angles of attack it also mounts weapons in waterproof sponson turrets. The defensive systems are very capable, it uses Stealth Armor to reduce the number of hits taken by the submarine, while Vehicular Harjel Systems prevent hull breaches.
The primary load-out is based upon the prototypes and is outfitted with ten LRT-15s, six are mounted in the nose and two are mounted on each side in sponson turrets. The Bloodhound Probe, Remote Sensor and Mine Dispensers, allow it to have superior underwater battlefield control.
Alternate-A is based upon the Prime and is designed for establishing beachheads and for retrieving operatives. LRM-15 launchers replace the torpedo systems and the other podded equipment is replaced with an infantry compartment.
Alternate-B is an Arrow bombardment platform for coastal targets, but usually it also has some Air-Defense munitions aboard for attacking enemy aerospace assets. This load-out has been used to take care of suspected intelligence leaks and destroy compromised facilities. Research is still ongoing for creating Arrow Torpedo munitions.
Alternate-T is a logistic load-out that assigns 50 tons to a transport bay. This can be for various mix of cargo and combat units, the exact transport configuration depending upon what was transported. It is armed with a small number of launchers that are mostly used for deploying smokescreens. It also mounts a pair of Lift Hoists for retrieving equipment from the depths.
Alternate-R is a logistic load-out aimed to provide repair support to friendly units on or adjacent to the water. It invest most of its pod space in a mobile field base, cargo and a compartment for technicians. Because this unit is likely to spend long periods on the surface it is very vulnerable to enemy air power. As such the remaining tonnage was invested in sponson mounting a HAG-10 and an AMS on each side.
Deployment
These submarines have been smuggled onto almost any world that the Society has a presence and where there is enough deep water for them to hide in. They have proven essential for guaranteeing operational security and providing mobile infrastructure for our forces.
Notable Unit "Admiral Tessa"
One of the oldest Whisperer Omni-Submarines was captained by Scientist Tessa. She was born from an attempt to create a scientist phenotype and proved highly talented at HPG research. Her combat career began after an accident at the facility where she was studying. The accident killed all the combat personnel and drew the attention of the locals. In desperation Tessa commandeered a new Whisperer Omni-Submarine and drew away the incoming investigation force, giving the people in the facility enough time to properly evacuated and scuttle the site. Her following service record was filled with many difficult combat missions and scientific achievements. Eventually she became the first in the Society to qualify for the rank of Scientist-Admiral. Her old ship was nicknamed 'Admiral Tessa' in her name.

Excellent unit I really like it including the Arrow torp idea very cool

Thanks, it is a possible idea that I haven't fleshed out yet, might be too OP.
This vehicle continues my Society AU, I consider it still a bit underdeveloped, so any suggestions are welcome.

It's too op? The Trident Missile Submarine packing six Arrow launchers, though it's a Support Sub because of it's size at 12,000 tons.
The original design was suppose to have be packing Piranha Sub-Cap missiles on it! :o
You should go for it! :))

If you need help with the AU I'm happy to help add or help expand

Why not make the Admiral Tessa come with a Mobile HPG suite.?

I have been thinking about such a configuration but I need to have some questions answered first:

Admiral Tessa sounds like it it needs mech bays or protomech bays.

It's 135 tons! Where the Hel are you gonna put them?
-
Sorry, Whispered and Tessa remind me of a certain sergeant and a blue haired class rep.

Indeed, that was the point. ;)
And as an omni-veh, Tessa could always choose to configure her sub as the Alt-T (transport).
Depending upon the rules it might fit 3 to 5 ProtoMechs.

Well, I got my answers, so here is the HPG configuration.

Huh, cool.

How would such a unit be transported from world to world, though?

Idea 1: Have a Dropship land on or next to water, and then slide the subs in.
Idea 2: Stealth Parachutes......
Idea 3: Land at the spaceport and arrange for land transport to move a 'Small Craft' to a 'Maintenance Facility'.
Idea 4: Society IKEA quest

3x 45 4x 17.5 ton pallets, after all it is a Omni. Oops... ;)
Weight unloaded is o 70 tons.

You would still need to effectively dry dock the ship whenever you wanted to move it.
-
A pair of heavy lift VTOL or a Small Caft could do it
-
Could a Small Craft bay on a DropShip be used to transport it by DropShip?
If you wanted to build a DropShip that could partially submerge to let a submarine or surface aquatic vehicle float into a Small Craft bay, how much tonnage would be needed for ballast tankage?
-
Don't mind me, just placing some mines.

It'll have problems dealing with targets below its keel, I feel.

Wow! Nice picture, maingunnery.
-
I have a very Seaview/Seaquest DSV vibe from the front hull. Very nice!
-

In such a case it would have to rely on any carried BA or Scuba infantry.
But anything above or in front of this sub is going to have a BAD DAY.
-
Darn she's beautiful!

I really like the design of the sponson turrets.
