Overview:
Built by Tyrian Ironworks as a further venture into a "Mobile Hardpoint" style
tank, and an upgrade of the old "Maus" chassis, the Baneblade was intended to
be the centre point of the armoured assault, with the battle revolving around
it. The idea was to allow the Baneblade to work alongside other, faster,
vehicles. The other units would provide both cover and distractions for the
Baneblade whilst the Baneblade would provide a rallying point and an unshakable
bastion for the other vehicles to coordinate around.
Capabilities:
The primary arment of the Baneblade is the massive 220MM AC10 mounted in the
turret. In a coaxial mount with it there is also a 105MM AC5 to give the
Baneblade a longer reach. In a hardened casement on the prow, alongside the
drivers position, there is a 500MM AC20, used to give punishing damage and deal
with hardened fortifications. In a sub turret above the drivers position there
is a Small Laser and in a small hardpoint below it a Machine Gun is mounted.
At each side the Baneblade has a casement that juts from the hull. Within each
of these are three Machine Guns, one firing forwards, another sidewards and
another to the rear. The Baneblade also mounts a Medium Laser in a sub turret
atop each casement.
Due to its slow speed (Only 36KPH tops) the Baneblade relys upon its armour to
keep it protected. fifteen and a half tons of Ferro Fibrous do this just fine.
Battle History:
Due to the issues that had surrounded the Maus when it was first released many
people did not have much faith in the new Baneblade. There where to many
similarities between the Maus and the Baneblade, not in the least the tonnage
and the intended role. Due to this very few units beyond Tyrians defence force
and a few Steiner and Davion units where equipped with Baneblades for the first
few years. Infact, such was the defecit in orders that the design itself was
almost scrapped.
However after 3 years Baneblades where used in a major inter-House engagement,
and for the first time they where given a true opputinity to prove themselves.
A pair of lances where employed by Davion forces fighting against the Free
Worlds League, employed alongside some 40 other vehicles. The Baneblades proved
their worth, giving the other front line vehicles a series of strong nd solid
anchor points to rally around whilst the other vehicles covered them against
longer ranged opponents.
Shortly after this battle many orders where placed by all of the Great Houses
and some of the Periphery nations, saving the Baneblade from the scrapheap.
Since then Baneblades have proven themselves in every occassion of their use
and many variants have been placed on there chassis.
One notable exception was to take place during a small planetary war. The duke,
called Archibald, had just purchased a company of Baneblaes and was eager to
use them to crush the insurgents. Ignoring all the advice from his generals and
the crews themselves he committed the entire company to an ammassed engagement
with the insurgents two companies of medium and light armour. Denied the
support of other faster moving units the Baneblades where quickly outmanouvred
and overrun, with the entire company being lost. This was to be a lesson to
many commanders, proving that all units, no matter how powerful, need support
from other units if they are to function efficiently.
Deployment:
Baneblades can be seen throughout the majority of the Inner Sphere, and some
can also be seen within Clan service. All of the Great Houses and some of the
richer Periphery nations can claim to own a good strength of the older
variants. However, after the Tyrian-Kurita shism the newer variants are a rare
sight in the Draconis Combine military forces, with the only examples seen
being those captured from other forces.
Banblades are usually deployed on a tatio of one or two per company. They
provide an anchor point for the rest of the company to rally around and use as
a base point for their attacks. Banelades role forwards, indomitably crushing
ll in their paths as the other vehicles move around them, engaging the enemy.
Variants:
All of the major variants will be covered seperately.
Baneblade Lostech: During the Succession wars the methods of te production od
Ferro Fibrous armour where lost, resulting in a downgrade of armour. This
variant of the Baneblade replaces the Ferro Fibrous armour with 15.5 tons of
standard armour.
Baneblade E-II: This variant replaces the ICE engine with a Fusion Engine. The
resulting extra tonnage is used to upgun and uparmour the Baneblade, adding 5.5
tons of armour to the Baneblade and upping the Medium Lasers to Large Lasers.
Baneblade E-III: This variant replaces the 200 rated ICE engine with a 300
rated XL engine. 5 tons of armour are added and the Medium Lasers are upgraded
to Large Lasers.
Baneblade gauss: Built as a longer ranged alternative this variant replaces the
Turret AC10 with a Gauss Rifle and 2 tons of ammo. The hull AC20 is replaced
with an LRM10 and to tons of ammo. The remaining tonnage is used on armour.
Additional:
This is to allow those old Epic 40K Baneblades that many of us have lying
armound to be used. Have fun people.
