Like an AC 10 Vedette, but not.
« on: 25 February 2024, 22:30:52 »
Inspired by discussion in the vehicle of the week article on the Vedette.

During 3020s, the Free Worlds League came up with a variant of the Vedette which carried a more powerful AC-10, but also kept the speed by installing a surplus 250 fusion engine in it. Unfortunately, this design was ultimately a failure because the engines were no longer being manufactured and were thus too valuable to waste in this manner. The variant was extinct by the clan invasion*.

So anyway, I took that concept, went for a main gun that actually takes advantage of the fusion engine, and used an engine that was still in production.

The question is, would you really want to take a Marauder or Orion engine and use it on a vedette?

*The escorpion imperio would actually re-create the AC-10 variant of the vedette during the early republic era, but that was probably a convergent evolution thing.
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

One could see it was a rolling bundle of spare parts.

But for its era it does a special combination of speed & armor, making it quite suitable for specific roles.
