ELRM Trucks
« on: 23 June 2014, 18:20:58 »
These are a long range support truck that I use, I am posting it here, as I referenced it in the discussion of ELRM's in the Fan Articles.

Here is the truck

I like this vehicle, might be tempted to add it to the lists of conventional vehicles I toss around but since I tend to use http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/w48.html for my stock ELRM/LRM launchers, I thought I would share it since you shared yours.

Code: [Select]
ELRM Transporter
15 Tons – Wheeled
Tech:  Inner Sphere
Internal Structure – 1.5 tons
Engine – 40 ICE – 2 tons
Cruise – 4
Flank – 6
Control Equipment - .75 tons
Armor - .75 tons
Front – 4
Sides – 3/3
Rear - 2

Equipment
ELRM-10 Front 8 tons
ELRM-10 Ammo (18) Body 2 tons

It's a variant on a light LRM-15 transporter since there is almost no situation that isn't made better with massed cheap rocket barrages.

For sheer economy of size and cost, I'd probably drop all the way down to a teeny tiny ELRM-5 and the smallest truck I can manage.  The sort of thing you can make out of a Ram 3500 with enough redneck engineering.  In the end it doesn't quite fit on something that tiny (6 ton launcher, and whatnot), but here's the next best thing:

Code: [Select]
Ram 5500 Extended Cab

Mass: 10 tons
Tech Base: Inner Sphere
Motive Type: Wheeled
Rules Level: Experimental Tech
Era: Dark Ages
Tech Rating/Era Availability: E/X-X-F-A
Production Year: 0
Cost: 92,750 C-Bills
Battle Value: 115

Power Plant:  20 I.C.E.
Cruise Speed: 43.2 km/h
Flanking Speed: 64.8 km/h
Armor:  Standard Armor
Armament:
    1  Extended LRM-5

Special Abilities: EE

Half a ton of commercial armor so that it can at least take a machine gun peppering without going belly up.  Enough LRMs to keep up fire for three minutes without having to reload.

It's the kind of truck that won't survive sustained combat at all but it's a dirt cheap way to get ELRMs on the field.

Oh, definitely going to have to add this one too as well to the light vehicle lists and it gives me an excuse to put my old BM-14-16/BM-13N minis back onto the field.

Not bad on either design... but I have noticed that the 40 ton range actually gives you a bit less than 30 tons....

At 30 tons, I manage the same speed, bigger launcher, and more armor......
I also tend to field ammo reloaders right near these..... because, either my opponents rush them with everything fast, that they have, and I have to keep them moving, or lose them, where ammo isn't as critical, as controlling my opponent's options ...... or they try and ignore them.... at which point I have time to reload, and keep the pain coming.

Yeah, I too tend to use ammo reloading trucks as well (the abuse of the trailer rules and putting hitches on everything!) for much of the same reason.   Might have to look into adapting some of my 30 ton truck designs and see what I can do in terms of a heavy support launcher.

That one is definitely a great representative of the classic BM-8 (the rather iconic WWII vehicle) while my ELRM truck could do a good representation of the follow on BM-21 (it's cold war descendent).   Nahuris's model could definitely stand in for some of the heavier launchers like Urgan or several of the excellent Czech truck mounted rocket launchers.   They all have that feel of those classic machines.

Yeah those videos are nice to watch, especially the AC-130 gunships (not a MRLS, but cool for a flying artillery piece) firing off all its guns or some of the newer anti-missile systems developed in Europe or Israel.
