Overview
The Arctos was an early attempt by the new Ghost Bear Dominion to produce a second-line medium reconnaissance Battlemech using Inner Sphere industrial capacity available within their occupation zone.
Capabilities
Compared to Omnimechs of similar tonnage the Arctos is not particularly fast, and while it can deliver a respectable barrage at short range, it does not feature the glamorous, one-shot-one-kill weapons that are typically found on even much smaller designs such as the Uller. However, it is tough, and it also features a power plant and skeleton that can be produced at virtually any Spheroid battlemech factory. The weapons and armor require a higher level of technology to produce, but The Bears are taking steps to ensure that in years to come this will be less of an issue. An Active Probe is included to enhance the mech's capability as a recon unit.
In many ways the Arctos is a direct substitute for older Spheroid designs such as the PHX-1 Phoenix Hawk. However, it is hard pressed against some of the upgraded designs currently entering Spheroid service. For now it is expected that the Arctos will be used to bulk out recon elements in second-line and solahma units, so the Dominion does not necessarily have the highest expectations for this design.
