So, I have a thread for my 'Mechs already. Might as well start a thread for all the vees I've accumulated.
Some of these will be armed with non-canon cannons, so be warned. Others will be non-canon designs found in fan TROs.

I'll start things off with a couple of Marian refits. The first is a design from TRO:3063 -- one's a Jihad-era build brought on by supply restrictions, and the second's a 3090s upgrade that turns it into a reasonably capable MBT.

Velite (Downgrade): Without Word of Blake support, the Marian Hegemony has had to build their Velite tanks to lower standards. This includes switching out the precious fusion reactor for an internal-combustion engine, and downgrading the armor to standard-class rather than ferro-fibrous. One of the rocket launchers is removed, as are the lasers, which are replaced by a single AC/5 and a pair of machine guns. The infantry bay was also reduced in size.

Velite (Blazer): An attempt to turn the Velite into a main-battle tank, this variant begins with the now-standard downgrade to a diesel engine, removes the infantry bay and switches out the main gun for a Chemical Blazer. This weapon is imported from the Hegemony's trading partners in Regulus.

Warlock (WoB): This minor variant of the Warlock tank was commissioned when the Blakists took control of Coventry. It switches out the three medium lasers for two ER models, and removes the AMS and its ammo. In its place is a C3i system.

BARS (Fuel Cell): Damage to the Macksburg facility and critical part shortages led to the revamping of several tanks once the Jihad was over. The BARS was made far cheaper through use of a Fuel Cell engine, while its weaponry was changed out for an LBX-15 and a pair of machine guns. The ferro-fibrous armor was thickened to six tons' worth.

Bulldog (AC-20): Some Clan solahma and dezgra units refitted captured Inner Sphere Bulldogs with surplus AC/20s, either taken from ancient Brian Caches or else captured themselves. This fit well with the all-or-nothing tactics preferred by such pilots. Spheroid tankers, for their part, sometimes make this modification as well.

Overview:
Though the Filtvelt Coalition's military officially favors quality over quantity, the Coalition's fledgling 'Mech forces can only be in so many places at once. Marquess Trempeleau pushed her nation throughout the 3080s and '90s to create a domestic defense industry, both to reduce reliance on imports and to improve Filtvelt's economy through export profits to their allies in the Calderon Protectorate and the Brotherhood of Randis.
After an abortive attempt to emulate the Hetzer, the Coalition Armory decided instead to improve upon the design. The invention of improved rifled cannons in 3086 allowed CAW to come up with a wheeled tank known, aptly, as the Defender, which managed to do so despite the simpler technology involved.
Capabilities:
The standard Defender is mainly used as a mobile assault gun, using its mobility to outflank the enemy and target their weak points with the heavy Improved Rifle mounted in its chassis. Its internal combustion engine -- simple, robust, and locally produced -- can push the wheeled tank at over 85 kilometers per hour.
The main tradeoff was in firepower. Though the 155mm cannon is quite robust, it is less than half as powerful as the Hetzer's class-20 autocannon. The upshot of all this, however, is that the cannon is also lighter and much longer-ranged. Also, like standard autocannons, the Improved Rifles can be loaded with a variety of types of ammunition for different situations.
Infantry attempting to attack a Defender will find to their horror that the vehicle is bristling on all sides with machine guns. Since battle armor is quite rare in that part of the Inner Sphere (Snow Ravens aside), it was deemed unnecessary to provide purpose-built defenses against them.
Deployment:
By now, the Defender has made its way to every regiment and every planetary militia in the Coalition, in some form or other. The standard assault gun version has just barely edged out the IFV variant, mainly because generic Hover APCs have been produced on Broken Wheel since the Civil War, and the Coalition's military planners believe they have enough overland transport capability after taking that into account.
This versatile chassis has seen some use outside Coalition borders, as well. Besides the small handful of captured examples fielded by Tortugan pirates, variants of the Defender have also been exported in small numbers to the Fiefdom of Randis, the Calderon Protectorate, and the Fronc Reaches, as well as several de-facto independent worlds formerly under Taurian control.
Variants:
When the first Defenders were constructed in the early 3080s, they mounted a standard class-5 autocannon on a turret. About one in three chassis are still made to these specifications, but the limited production of autocannon in the Coalition (not to mention the higher damage levels of the Improved Heavy Rifle) has kept their numbers down. Most of the AC/5 Defenders are exported to the Coalition's trading partners.
More prominent are a pair of specialty variants. The first turns the Defender into an infantry fighting vehicle. Like the original, its main gun is in a turret, but the gun is only a 75 millimeter Improved Light Rifle. The weight savings, of course, goes towards the equipment to carry infantry to the battlefield and deploy them.
The other variant of the Defender chassis is a utility vehicle, mainly used for medical evac and MASH duties. It can also, in a pinch, be used for construction or demolition duty. Critics have derided this variant for trying to do too much at once, but it has proven quite useful in its non-combat capacity.

Railgun Carrier: Amaris' forces resorted to a number of experimental refits of existing vehicles and 'Mechs in a desperate attempt to hold off the inevitable tide of SLDF units. The Railgun Carrier was one of these. At its core a heavily bastardized LRM Carrier, it removed the LRMs to fit a massive Railgun. Overview:
During the Usurper's War, the story goes, General Kerensky and his loyal SLDF units stormed the Rim Worlds Republic and wiped it completely off the map, depriving Amaris loyalists of a fallback position and scouring every last factory from existence.
Apparently, they missed one.
A jump-jet mishap during the Hell's Horses' conquest of Apollo, the old Rim Worlds capital, led to the accidental unearthing of a forgotten factory complex, and the discovery of a heretofore-unknown 'Mech known as the Nimrod (http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,31127.0.html). The Horses' inbred Clan hatred of all things Amaris warred with their abhorrence of needless waste. Practicality won, and the Horses began salvaging what they could.
After several years of salvaging, building, and trade, the Horses managed to restart a modest industrial base on Apollo, to complement their factories on Czesztreg and Kirchbach. While new 'Mechs were (and are) a major priority for the Clan, they decided to stick to an easy-to-produce unit for the new Complex Gamma's first production run.
This is where the Foal comes in. Looking like nothing so much as an updated Scorpion tank, the Foal was meant to be produced in quantity and outfit the Horses' garrison Clusters.
Capabilities:
Like the ubiquitous Scorpion, the Foal has a slow ground speed and relatively thin armor for a tracked vehicle. While it lacks an anti-infantry weapon as standard, it does improve on the classic tank's firepower by using an Ultra AC/5 instead of a standard one. A heavy medium laser provides a surprise to those who think they are safe in close.
The Foal's main selling point is that it provides advanced Clan weaponry for under eight hundred thousand credits per unit (though the Foxes, as always, increase the price when selling to outsiders). Among the Clans themselves, this is ignored completely, and the tank's many shortcomings are emphasized derisively. The only reason the Horses even considered mass-producing the Foal was because the need for quantity overrode the inborn Clan desire for quality.
Deployment:
The thought of driving something tainted, however little, by the hated memory of Stefan Amaris' destroyed realm, tends to infuriate many of the Horses' more conservative members. As a result, the Foal tends to be concentrated in the Clan's dezgra and solahma units, as well as sibko training cadres.
The other independent Inner Sphere Clans have no real use for the Foal, being just as infuriated by it as the Horses -- even moreso in the Falcons' case. However, the Wolves-in-Exile and the semi-independent Nova Cats have both bought Foals indirectly through Diamond Shark (now Sea Fox) traders.
Inner Sphere states and occasional mercenaries have also purchased the Foal in modest numbers, but only the Regulan Fiefs and Marik-Stewart Commonwealth have made any sizable orders for the inexpensive light tank. If not for these orders, and the much-needed money they bring in, the Horses would have long since ended production. As it is, the Khan will likely order the factory to retool within the next few years anyway.
Variants:
Versions of the Foal with similar-sized autocannons -- LB 5-X or HAC-8, usually -- have cropped up periodically since the tank's introduction to the Horses' Touman. Another mounts a large pulse laser and several anti-personnel gauss rifles, while a fourth pairs a plasma cannon with an SRM rack and two machine guns. All tend to be used primarily for garrison duty, as the thought of taking one of these tanks into a zellbrigen-style duel is laughable.

Quiang-Ton (ELRM): Like the MML version, the ELRM Quiang-Ton switches to a light engine and removes the missile launchers. The launchers are replaced by a trio of Extended LRM-10s with four tons of ammo. Once again, the armor, CASE, and AMS are untouched. These specialized fire-support tanks are meant to be used in concert with their MML-toting cousins.

Overview:
With the troubles erupting all over the Chaos March, including on their home planet of Epsilon Eridani, Kressly Warworks saw great potential sales in a powerful, ammo-independent tank. Drawing up the blueprints and starting production in record time, the first Storm tank rolled off the assembly line just in time to see the last of the internecine fighting on Eridani.
Capabilities:
Unfortunately, the Storm turned out to be rather mediocre for the price. True, its dual-PPC armament gave it twice the range of the Rommel and twice the firepower of the Patton, but the power requirements and the sheer level of heat produced necessitated the use of a fusion engine, rather than the relatively cheap option of internal combustion.
The weight of the extra heat sinks also meant that little was left over for secondary weaponry or armor. The Storm only mounts eight tons of standard armor; Kressly saw little point in adding further to the cost by using ferro-fibrous armor. Secondary armament consists solely of a token machine gun covering the tank's front arc.
Given all these factors, the Storm acts mainly as a specialized 'Mech-hunting machine; while the turret's impressive upward traverse arc does allow it to fill in an anti-aircraft role in a pinch, it is largely unable to deal with smaller or faster threats. Short-ranged light 'Mechs were often able to rush in beneath the PPCs' minimum range and tear lone Storms to pieces.
Deployment:
Because sales of the Storm were initially tepid, Kressly decided their best chance to make a profit was to come up with good publicity for the tank. The fighting on Carver V (now Liberty) was seen as perfect for the purpose, given the high amount of media attention focused on the world at the start of the conflict. The versatile tank was sold to all comers, with Steiner forces buying the majority of the Storms produced up to that point.
"Pirate" forces (believed by Republic Intel to have been a Liao false-flag operation) captured a number of the tanks in their initial surprise assault on Steiner territory. Nonetheless, the Storm acquitted itself well against both Davion and Liao forces -- particularly when the latter attempted frontal attacks against entrenched Steiner positions at the behest of their commander, Jason Cho.
All this went unreported for some time, however, as the lunar HPG was sabotaged in an attack by unidentified 'Mechs. By the time the Word of Blake got a new HPG up and running, the fighting on Liberty was over, and the media no longer bothered reporting on it.
After 3064, the main customer for the Storm was the Word of Blake. Many of these tanks found their way into both Blakist Level IIs and Protectorate forces during the Jihad. Most surviving examples are now in the possession of the Republic, though a few captured ones still serve in House forces (mainly Steiner) and the occasional Clan garrison cluster.
Kressly's Storm wing was sabotaged in 3073 by Liaoist zhanzheng de guang partisans. It is thought they intended to blow up the entire factory, but botched the operation. The Storm plant was too damaged to properly rebuild; a new wing of the factory complex built in the same spot now produces AgroMechs.
Variants:
Precentor St. Jamais ordered Kressly to come up with a more effective version of the Storm in 3068. The main guns were changed out for a Snub-nose PPC and a Rotary AC/5 with three tons of ammo. This freed up tonnage for a C3i computer and another two tons of armor plating, now upgraded to heavy ferro-fibrous. Post-Jihad retrofits of surviving Storms remove the C3i in favor of a standard C3 slave unit and ECM.

Overview:
Since their secession from the Taurian Concordat shortly before the Jihad, the Calderon Protectorate has struggled to come up with enough war materiel to resist piracy, much less another reunification attempt by the Concordat. Trade with the Diamond Sharks and other Periphery states, particularly Fronc, Filtvelt and Randis, would eventually make up much of this shortfall, but Baron Kithrong (and later, Protector Erik) knew that without a significant domestic defense industry, the Protectorate would inevitably fall.
The release of the New Dallas Memory Core changed all that. Through investment and great effort, the Protectorate Defense Conglomerate was founded and began producing RetroTech designs, like the Star Dagger, Toro, and even the ancient Estevez main battle tank.
The attempt to actually use such outdated designs against pirate raiders was disastrous. A raiding force on Lastpost was able to easily penetrate the obsolete tanks' inferior armor with PPC fire. The pirate Alice Ortega gained a measure of notoriety in the Protectorate by racking up over a company's worth of tank and 'Mech kills in her Banshee, "Malice", before retreating with her spoils.
Mating an updated Estevez chassis with a heavily-modified turret reverse-engineered from a Zhukov was the best solution the PDC could come up with in a relatively short amount of time. As time went on, this turned out to be more than sufficient for the Protectorate's needs. In recognition of its heritage -- and as a minor snub to the revenge-crazed nation they had left -- the new tank was named the Estevez II.
Capabilities:
The first change to the classic design was to switch out the engine for a locally-produced fuel cell -- a project largely begun at the behest of Protector Erik Martens-Calderon himself, whose enthusiasm on the subject was infectious. Though these engines are still plagued by occasional failures and poor fuel efficiency (even by the standards of hydrogen fuel cells), they serve to give the Estevez II a top speed of over fifty kilometers per hour -- an acceptable movement speed for a Periphery assault tank.
The ability to get a hold of standard armor was crucial to the new tank's success. PDC can now produce it on Diik, but for the first twelve years, they were forced to rely on trade for the armor they needed. Some units occasionally had to make do with "primitive"-style steel plating.
To keep the number of turret modifications down, and with spare autocannons in reasonable supply, PDC chose a pair of standard AC/10s for the Estevez II's main armament. Three tons of ammo is considered sufficient for most operations, particularly as fuel considerations already ensure it will never stray far from supply lines. Also on the turret are a set of locally-built rocket launchers (simple to make even for the most cash-strapped nation) and a common machine gun.
More machine guns dot the sides of the Estevez II, along with small SRM racks taken from Toro production. These give the tank some protection against enemy infantry forces, though the proliferation of battle armor in recent years makes these weapons seem a bit puny in hindsight.
Notable Pilots:
Lance Sgt. Quentin Jacobs
The first deployment of the home-built assault tank proved to be very cathartic for the young nation. Lance Sargeant Jacobs was in command of a company of tanks (mostly new Estevez IIs) when "Malice Alice" Ortega and her pirate band decided to raid Diik in 3079, intending to steal a shipment of 'Mech parts and fighters from an incoming Canopian smuggler while it was in transit. Expecting her opposition to once again consist of RetroTech tanks and a smattering of low-tech 'Mechs, she moved boldly into the city to intercept the valuable convoy, with Jacobs' armor force the main defense.
Ortega suspected that the convoy's route had been leaked deliberately in an attempt to draw her into an ambush, but pushed ahead anyway. However, in contrast to the obsolete machines she faced before, Jacobs' force of Estevez IIs held up to her Banshee's weapons and crippled several of the accompanying pirate 'Mechs in a hail of autocannon and missile fire. Lance Sargeant Jacobs and his tank crew accounted for several kills, including "Malice Alice" herself. The pirate leader was captured barely alive, after her cockpit was breached by a volley of rockets.
Jacobs and his company were personally given several commendations by Baron Kithrong for their role in capturing Ortega and, in the Baron's words, "sending a message to the pirate scum that the Protectorate is not their playground".
Deployment:
The Estevez II can be found in nearly every armor formation in the Protectorate, and has spread via sales to Fronc, Filtvelt, and even the Marian realm, as well as a few minor worlds in the former League. The Coalition Armory on Filtvelt also produces a licensed version using home-built weaponry.
Variants:
The Estevez II has spawned an impressive variety of variants over its twenty-odd years of service.
A downgraded, "Semi-Primitive" version with inferior armor was occasionally seen when PDC couldn't get a hold of (or produce) enough standard armor. As these logistical problems have since been corrected, there should be no examples of this variant still extant. Another downgrade is popular as an export design, particularly on worlds with limited access to fuel-cell engine parts. This downgrades the power plant to a standard internal-combustion engine, with the main guns also downgraded to AC/5s.
The Protectorate's strong trade ties to the Filtvelt Coalition have led to a pair of variants specific to their fellow breakaway state. The first replaces the AC/10s with Improved Heavy Rifles, which, though they are more ammo-intensive and slightly less powerful, are also lighter and easier for Filtvelt's patchy industry to produce. This also frees up room for more rocket launchers and an extra machine gun.
Filtvelt's other variant acts as an ersatz Partisan, with a quartet of Improved Medium Rifles in the turret. Fronc also uses a modified Estevez II for anti-aircraft duty on occasion, replacing the cannons with a trio of AC/5s. Both of these variants are fairly rare and tend to appear only in garrisons where anti-aircraft firepower is otherwise greatly lacking.
The few surviving examples of the RetroTech Estevez built by PDC in the '70s have since been sold off to various military museums in the Inner Sphere and nearby Periphery as 'functional replicas'.

Churchill Mk.XXI: This variant started off as a downgrade of the Mark XX, changing out the expensive XL fusion reactor for a much more reasonably-priced (if less robust) fuel-cell engine. The weapons are now an Ultra AC/15, a medium recoilless cannon, and a single Micro Pulse Laser, and though the armor provides the same protection as before, it is heavier standard plating rather than the old model's ferro-fibrous. However, the targeting computer is retained, and a Boosted C3 Slave is added to allow superior coordination, regardless of enemy ECM.
