I always viewed the VLAR 300 as the Chevy 350 of the BattleTech universe.  It was so common (6/9 in a 50, 5/8 in a 60, 4/6 in a 75 and 3/5 in the Atlas), though there should have been more mods for it.  "we stroked out this 300 to a 320 to go in the Zeus, same weight but you wont get the mileage out of it."

I guess that makes the VOX 280 the Ford Ecoboost.  Found in a few trucks like the Warhammer and Archer, along with a speedster or two like the Assassin and the Cicada CDA-3C.

The Nissan 200 is like the old Chrysler Slant 6.  Not too sexy, but reliable and found in a lot of stuff for a long time.

The Pitban 320 is like the Ford 351 Cleveland.  Yes you have a little more power, but you would have been better of going with a lighter chassis and using the 300.

Speaking of the same weight, the 120 and 125 weigh the same.  When I did my PPC-armed Scorpion, a fluffed the engine as a "re-manufactured 120"...

Uh, you mean wheeled for that last example, right?  ???

One of these days I'm going to get an accurate post down ... not today. (yup, meant wheeled)

[edit: hah, not even this one!]

If it is usable in a lot of different chassis, it’s probably got to be divisible by 4,5, and 6. So every 60 rating. Also, not too large and not too small.

So 180, 240, 300.

120 qualifies, but it’s too small. 360 does but is too large.

180 is even a bit small. That would be a 4/6 45 ton mech. So 240 and 300 are your winners

I think the 300 engine is used a lot. 3/5 for a 100 ton, 4/6 for a 75 ton, 5/8 for a 60, 6/9 for a 50ton, and if you want to be 10/15 30 tons.

19 tons or 9.5 ton for a XL, makes a very light for a big mech.

The Pitban 240 is the Chevy 305 that you have in your caprice.  Unless you are driving a truck like the Awesome. You wish mom and dad would have paid a little more for something that was a little bigger and had the Chevy 350 (VLAR300) moving you from either a 6/9 40 ton frame to a 6/9 50 ton frame or a 4/6 60 ton Rifleman to a 4/6 Marauder.

its a fireball special but you CAN fit a 300xl in a 20 ton mech, but it makes the dasher (firemoth) look well armored.
