IS/Clan ranks option for post count?
« on: 29 January 2011, 00:15:01 »
How about an option to select an IS or Clan rank system for your post count?

Clan could be something like

1-49 - Cadet
51-100 - Mechwarrior
100-249 - Star Commander
250-499 - Star Captain
500-999 - Star Colonel
100-2499 - Galaxy Commander
2500-4999 - SaKhan
5000+ - Khan

Could this be done and/or would anyone be interested in this?

We'd have a lot of Khans running around in short order. I was a Lt. Colonel Pre-Crash, and that's like 12k posts.
I don't post to play nice with everyone. I post to posit my ideas. If this offends you, there's an ignore function.

IIRC,it gets brought up a lot. and usually gets shot down for one reason or another, so I'm going to be preemptive and say, "No."

Well the post count brackets could be spread out further. Obviously there aren't a whole lot of ranks in the Clan hierarchy. I figured it might have been discussed to death (I'm new here), but thought I'd mention it anyway.

I would be fully behind this, actually.  Even if it was just for kicks.

The Clan ranks do relate to the Inner Sphere ranks.  In the case that there are more I.S ranks than there are Clan, a Clan rank could be simply used twice (Star Commander for both Sergeant and Master Sergeant for example)

I suspect the issue is more with the forum itself, however, and probably doesn't allow for two separate ranking systems.

Or we could use something like:

0-50 Cadet
51-250 MechWarrior
251-1250 Star Commander
1251-3125 Star Captain
3126-7820 Star Colonel
7821-19550 Galaxy Commander
19551-48875 Khan (or saKhan or whatever).

Or something like that.  Of course, assuming it's even possible to have more than one rank ladder on the boards.

My guess is that it is not. It is just a SMF board after all.

If you wanted to use a Clan structure try this to spread it out.

Laborer Caste
Technician Caste
Merchant Caste
Scientist Caste
Warrior Caste
Aerowarrior
Point Commander
Mechwarrior
Star Commander
Star Captain
Star Colonel
Galaxy Commander
Loremaster
SaKhan
Khan

Problem with clan ranks is 90% of the masses should NEVER go any higher than Warrior -- since at about the 2,000 post mark they should "die" and be forced to make a new account.

... since 20% of the entire warrior caste should die yearly for the sibko turnover rates...

Death will take those who fight alone.
But united we can break a fate once set in stone.

In that case, Wombat would have to have a new account every three months.....Wombat 4: the Reckoning??  :o

I've been to some boards where they only let your posts go up in number if they are on the main discussion boards... things like our mechwarrior hall don't count, which would reflect quite a bit on some of us.   :D

Hmmm ... maybe any Clan members should be forced to "fight" yearly Trials of Position ... five go in, four come out, and the post count of the loser is distributed to the four survivors? I'm sure MegaMek could handle something like that  ;D

By the way, if we go Inner Sphere ranks, bags I looking after the House Steiner members. LCAF commissions would be able to be attained by buying blocks of post-count, something like 5c/post ...  :D

No, Steiners get ahead by socializing with the right folks. Canopians are the ones who can buy better ranks.
