LAM Rules?
« on: 05 July 2011, 09:59:31 »
Hi,

I remember hearing something about LAM rules.  Have these already been released?  If so then in what publication can I find them?

Thank you

As noted, RS: 3085 has the Quick-start rules, but the full rules for them will supposedly appear in Interstellar Operations when that comes out.

Is there any time horizon on Interstellar Operations?

No, there isn't. My personal target is a year following the previous core title. When that goes past, its just a matter of a couple of months, from my Pollyanna perspective.

Since the Wobbie's were working on LAMS' we may see the rules in Jihad Final Reckoning-- if those are delayed, I wouldn't refuse to pay out for a little XTRO style product that gives us the rules early...hint, hint.

Orginal rules for LAM's appear in the first battletech rule book and have not changed, the 3085 are just newer designs, there can never be any change in there design rules only what will fit and the limit to tonnage.

I'd suggest looking at the new sheets for LAMs, then reevaluating that statement.  8)

As has been posted earlier, the LAM rules have changed a LOT, and the quick-start rules for them can be found in the Record Sheets 3085 print book.

Except for when FASA made some changes. Like the cap at 55 tons, originally there was none.

i haven't read the actual rules yet, but IIRC the FotW articles discussed the addition of "aerospace equipment slots" like landing gear and such..and that in airmech mode they use modified WIGE movement.

given that the Mk1 Wasp has a bomb bay, which is a non-mech item, i think it's safe to assume that the construction rules have changed.

yup i remember designing some 100 ton LAMs before that got added

didnt change all that much. just some additional limits (which didnt matter when the old LAM rules were still in print for the most part) and some expansion on how to use them. (like giving them an 'overthrust' for thier A-M FLight mode)
and finally putting in print that thrust is determined by how many Jump Jets you have

@Grim_Reaper:  Yes, I can remember defeating a couple of munchkins with a Cyclops LAM back in 1993. :D
