Timeline planning

How do you guys do it?  Do you use specialized software (and if so, which), or something like Excel/Word, or just pass around a napkin swiped at a convention on which Herb scrawls pronunciations of mass doom in between Randall's stick figure interpretations of Shakespeare?

These days, text documents, mostly. The Jihad time line managed by Herb clocked in at 148 pages, 114,000 words and nearly a meg in file size. That'd be good for a 150 page sourcebook all by itself.

That enormous effort is supplemented by strategic data managed by Oystein, who largely uses spreadsheets.

The solution is just ignore Paul.
