Medium tracked IFV?
« on: 13 March 2013, 07:26:10 »
Just wondering if I am missing a medium tracked IFV that can carry battle armor?  The closest one I can think of is the Dragoon's Badger, and its a light.

There's the Goblin Medium Tank (MG) from RS3039 with a 5 ton bay. The Goblin X from XTRO Boondocks holds 8 tons of infantry. There are also multiple versions of the Prowler in RS3085-CE

Not familiar with that one, and I do not see it on Sarna.  What is the main gun?  Armor, speed, etc?

Honestly I think LRMs might be the best weapon for IFVs, unless they have a fusion engine which changes things a bit.

The Prowler does indeed have an LRM rack, usually backed up by a couple of lasers. Armor's pretty decent, and the speed is 4/6, plus amphib ability.

Forgot about that one too, but its not in my HMV so . . . unfortunately its 55t, which wastes the heavy veh cubicle but the LRM support is what I was thinking of . . .

A Goblin with an expanded infantry bay would do the job.  Downgrade the LPL or a LL or something like that.

Main Gauche IFV (3067U) seats four in spartan comfort, and has some useful firepower.

It is the perfect Main Gauche. Speed of the XL version, BA-sized bay, and a Plasma Rifle up front. The only weakness is a lack of a turret, and that's hardly something you can't get around. I can't believe I forgot to mention it in my previous post.

I need more Main Gauches now. Two will no longer cut it.

Look at it this way: The FWL runs 5-squad BA platoons, and 6-vee light tank platoons. 5 Main Gauche IFVs plus troops, and a sixth vehicle to round out the platoon. I'm thinking either a Galleon for scouting ahead of the main group, or a standard Main Gauche or Hunter for long-range support. Either way...fun. 8)

Yeah, basically I was asking to form a mechanized unit.  Using the more common BA, GDL Standards, IS Standards, Longinus, Periphery Trinity, and Cavalier/Raiden to form the 'infantry' component with tracked IFVs (means some sort of supporting weapon) and heavy tracked armor for some backbone.

Depending on the origin it and time frame some of the suggestions, like the Main Gauche IFV- which I like a lot- might not be available.  And while the Plasma Rifle works nicely in the role, I am not sure a MML followed by a LRM rack would not be better choices.  As far as the supporting armor options . . . Bulldogs, Pattons, Brutus and Pos.  If you really had the cash and past the Jihad Merkava, Moltke, Glory FS and for the really spendy Shark/Fox Morrigu.
