I noticed some very old topics on this, and I figured since my take on it
has a very different twist, that a new thread was appropriate.
When this box set came out I got one because "Hey, 25th Anniversary, Have to get it."
But I never opened it.
Up until recently, I was a die hard old school Battletech collector. By that I mean,
I only had the old stuff by FASA, and the Ral Partha Minis to go with it.
And by the way, if anyone is interested, I have compiled a complete list
to include every RP part number that was reused, some as many as 3 times.
Anyway, a few weeks ago, I decided to actually open the box and see what it
had in it. I mean this thing is HUGE, and HEAVY. So curiosity won.
I do have some minor complaints, as everyone always does. But I have to say
for the price, over all this was an incredible box set, and I would go so far as to say
the best game box set I've ever seen. And I have a LOT of different games.
The Maps are outstanding, I would love to see more of them.
And the thoroughness of the included rule books, and various guides
was impressive, every one of them contributes to the set.
The standard set of 24 minis , I have to say is the only place I was
disappointed in any way. They are nice, but for today's technology
these could have been better quality. And the proof is in this very box.
The Thor mech is a one piecer, and it is exceptional. With this quality,
all minis could go to plastic and I would enjoy them.
And the Loki? Well this is why I am posting here. This single miniature
has bridged the gap between Old School Battletech and the new "Classic"
Battletech. Not only did I love this model, and very much hope to see more
like it. But because of it, I have decided to expand my collection and gaming
into the new age of BT.
I have a lot of catching up to do. And I hope my knowledge and Experience from the original
game will be helpful here.
