(Answered) +2 for woods revisited
« on: 27 June 2014, 22:55:16 »
Hi,

In a previous thread Wolfspider asked "Does the modifier for the +2 apply to a unit firing from a woods hex if he is on the edge of the woods?"

The answer included: "The attack gets the +2 to-hit modifier if the woods are intervening (between the two units) or if the target is in the woods.
If the attacker is in the woods, but there are no woods between the attacker and target, then the woods the attacker is in doesn't provide any Woods modifier to the attacker's to-hit roll."

The Alpha Strike Companion states the following rules change on page 18: "Terrain is occupied if any part of the unit’s base is in contact with the terrain. Terrain is intervening if the Line of Sight passes through it before reaching the target, and any terrain occupied by the attacker is considered intervening even if it does not pass through Line of Sight to the target."

Just to confirm, the correct interpretation would now be that an attacker firing from the edge of woods (assuming no other intervening woods) would need to add the woods modifier?

Correct, that is an intentional change from the prior ruling and why it was printed in the Alpha Strike Companion (and will be in errata to Alpha Strike rulebook).
