Alternate Era Price Modifiers
« on: 28 June 2019, 18:19:19 »
What's the thought on using these for character generation? One one hand, it makes sense. You want a character to have a gun in 3145, then you should probably pay the price for it.

On the other hand, its not like your starting wealth is modified for the era. You still start with the basic 1000 C-bills (or whatever your Wealth Trait starts at).

So..thoughts?

IO trumps AToW, right (being newer)?  So shouldn't the price modifiers already be there?

I'm talking about the various era modifiers (like from the Era Reports), that give multipliers for the various types of gear. So page 194 of ER 3145 shows that if you want a small arm in 3145, it will cost about 5 times what its listed for in ATOW.

Ah, Era Reports.  ER: 3052 has this line:
Quote
When purchasing equipment for a new character or later on in a campaign, it is important to modify the price and availability accordingly.
So it seems pretty clear per RAW.  If you think they're excessive in 3145, I don't see why you couldn't ignore them at your table.

Yeah, by RAW you're supposed to use it. I was just pondering the mechanics since the Wealth isn't changing, but costs at chargen are increasing by atleast 100% in almost all cases.

Ah well. Just random thoughts :)

Base Wealth isn't increasing, but it does make investing TP in Wealth more valuable.  The progression of the Wealth table is very much a "the rich get richer" kind of thing.  If anything, that era plays up inequality.

Now here's a good question. Specialty ammo in the gear catalog in ATOW falls under the Explosives section. Which has a different price modifier than the Small Arms section.

So should specialty ammo have the Explosive modifier, or the small arms modifier?

And if you're just buying regular ammo, which modifier do you use?

Depends on the weapon, I'd say.  If the weapon lists an ordnance class for its ammo, then use the Explosives multiplier.  If it doesn't, stick with the Small Arms one.

Actually, thinking about it, have the Availability ratings for most of the ATOW equipment been updated for Dark Ages?

IO has the Weapons and some of the armor kits, but what about things like Load Bearing Equipment, survival equipment, etc?
