Tech B early 21C M1 Abrams
« on: 24 April 2023, 14:09:47 »
Just looking at what one of these would like.  Anyone up to the task?  Only stipulation is that is must be able to beat the Vehicles in TRO 1945!
Their is no problem Jump Jets and an assault class auto-cannon can't handle.

I'll give it a shot. The grenade launchers would be loaded with smoke, of course. I chose to keep the engine tech rating C because it is considerably more advanced than most other power packs of similar tanks. I wouldn't normally carry this much ammo, but the M1A1 carries about 40 rounds, so there we go. Sadly there isn't really a good way to mount the commander's .50 without adding a second turret, so I had it face the same way as the coaxial.

I kind of see the Abrams as a "proto-Tech C" kind of unit, so I came up with the following:

Code: [Select]
Type: M1A2 Abrams
Movement Type: Tracked (Medium)
Equipment Rating: C/X-X-X/D
Mass: 65 tons

Equipment Mass
Chassis: 16.82
Engine/Controls: 1500 hp 27.5
Type ICE
Cruise MP: 3.5
Flank MP: 5.25 [7]
Heat Sinks: 0 0
Fuel: 425 km 1.17
Turret: 0.81
Armor Factor (BAR 6): 126 6.05
Internal Armor
Structure Value
Front: 7 25
R/L Side: 7/7 25/25
Rear: 7 25
Turret: 7 26

Weapons and Ammo Location Slots Tonnage
120mm Smoothbore Cannon Turret 1 8
2 7.62mm Machine Guns Turret 2 0.04
0.50 Caliber MG (U.S.) Turret 1 0.05
Ammo (120mm) 42 Body 1 1.05
Ammo (7.92mm) 10,400 Body 0 0.42
Ammo (.50 cal) 900 Body 0 0.06
Supercharger Rear 1 2.8

Crew: 4

A bit more common design (used an extra grenade launcher as placement mass for the low-caliber 7.62 mm M240s).
The primary advantages are the BAR 6 armor and Advanced Fire Control.

Code: [Select]
Type: Abrams Tank
Chassis Type: Tracked (Medium)
Technology Base: Inner Sphere (Standard)
Mass: 67 tons
Battle Value: 375

Equipment                                         Mass (tons)
Chassis/Controls                                   24.5
Engine/Trans.                                      23.0
    Cruise MP:3
Flank MP:5
Heat Sinks                    0                     0.0
Fuel                                                1.5
Turret                                              1.0
Armor Factor (BAR 6)          104                   5.0

                          Internal   Armor
                          Structure  Value
     Front                   7         27
     R/L Side               7/7      19/19
     Rear                    7         19
     Turret                  7         20

Weapons
and Ammo                       Location    Tonnage
Rifle                           Turret       5.0
Machine Gun                     Turret       0.5
2 Vehicular Grenade Launcher    Turret       1.0
Medium Rifle Ammo (45)           Body        5.0
Half Machine Gun Ammo (100)      Body        0.5

Cargo
    None

Notes:
Features Environmental Sealing Chassis and Controls Modification
Advanced Fire Control(1 ton)

Ooo! Holy shit, that caused a momentary panic; I forgot where I put that data and thought I'd accidentally deleted it in a file clean-up.

But okay, the 120mm Smoothbore has the following combat stats (1945 rules):

Damage (v BAR 5) = 12
Range (1945 rules, Min/S/M/L/X) = 10/52/105/156/260
Max range (Aerospace) = Short
Mass: 8 tons
Ammo Mass (per shot): 25kg
Crit Space (Combat Vee/Support Vee & Mech): 1/3
Equivalency: Just kidding; Equivalency rules were too flawed and thus have been discontinued.

Now I'm wondering if this is from some sort of Cold War/West v East esque product you're working on  ;D

I'll let you know if it ever resumes...and if Ray lets me.

Just to check: the rules you used for 1945 weren't based on the AToW damage conversions, right? ???

Conversions of what? I used the rules I established myself years ago, which have little to zip to do with AToW.
